Roast Why does Judd escape criticism again?

I'm not going to say that Judd has been horrible this year because he has been completely the opposite, but it never ceases to amaze me how many times he escapes criticism. 16 uncontested possessions and he still only managed 59% disposal efficiency.

He definitely wasn't our worst last night, but for a guy who is meant to be one of the best players in the competition, he has to stand up and kick straight and spot targets consistently.

This goes for Fevola too. He has to learn to step up when the team is down. Poor delivery doesn't help too much, though.

I think Judd's entitled to an average game every now and again (but why against Essendon ) given he wins/keeps us in most games.

Fev, well where do I start. It's too late to change him. Gotta accept thats how he is. If Fev had the mental application of say a Buckley he'd be remembered as an all time great.

If he's an elite then he should be consistently great. In the games against Essendon, Collingwood and Richmond he is the man that has to stand up or at least create a diversion.

I completely agree with your comments on Fevola.

Judd is a very elite player and has been a great Carlton player already. However I think everyone has room to improve including Judd and he should be as open as anyone to being critiqued. My main problem with Judd and for that matter Gibbs also is that they do not chase with the same intensity of elite chasers like Joseph and Betts. At times both guys just allow their closest opponent to run with the ball as they coral them at a distance at a very liesurly pace.

Hey Guys, Judd is elite and 9/10 times he delivers the goods. When we had him at he eagles, welsh really did a number on him also. I think he is the one tagger that has the wood on juddy.

I think history shows that there are not too many elite onballers that were great chasers - they were mostly the chased

That is probably true in history. However modern footy is so much about keeping intensity pressure on the opposition. If too many players drop off in this area the results can be devestating. Further chasing is something that anyone has the capacity to do so it is certainly not out of Judd's reach to change his ways in this area.

Judd is a hack that we should never of got. Disgrace to the navy blue, never tries hard and his kicking where do I start!!!!!!!

Na Judd is good, had a dog game yep, but who didn't apart from 2 or 3.

Fev, well I think this comes down to Rattens poor man management. He has to be pulled into line.

Look at what Knights did with Lovett!

Probably should be pointing the finger at Stevens... He looks just about finished to me. How much longer do you guys reckon he has?

Judd is a great player but a very average captain.

He allows fevola to sulk and allow his man to run off him at will and set up goals and collect 21 posessions for a full back.

Lloyd would never allow one of our players to play like that and would confront him on the ground and get him to lift.

Judd is a champion player but is an unemotional robot who is not captain material.

PS: time to re evaluate your list as it isn't as good as you or the media think it is.

It's a long weekend when you get pumped, especially by the enemy, so try to have a few drinks and drown your sorrows.

Bingo.

I think it's reflecting on our development coaches. I mean a few of the young bombers seem a couple seasons ahead of the blues.
Reimers, Monfries to name a couple always have that spark when they play the blues, playing with passion. Good stuff Knightsy :thumbsu:

If Fev had the mental application of say a Buckley he'd be remembered as an all time great.

If Fev had the mental application of a cumquat he'd be twice the player he is now. Taking a one-hander and showing it off to the crowd is pathetic when he should be paying attention to his kicking.

Have always said that, even when Judd was captain of westcoast. Poor Judd, can't win a trick, first embroiled in a drug culture at west coast, now put on the sex offender registry at Carlton.

When was the last time he escaped criticism?

I think he has never warranted it since he came to Carlton.

The problem is Brendan Fevola plain and simple. I loved him growing up, I was 11-12 year old watching him trot around the reserves at PP and he stood out to me as someone different (and talented) because he was wearing baby blue boots before he has even played a game, and these were the days when everyone wore black boots.

The fact of the matter is that there are great players with poor mental application (Fevola) and average players with magnificent application, and in the end, their input into the teams success over their careers is the same. At least the average players are predictable.

Is it? A tagger's job is to ensure their opponent doesn't get the footy, while the tagged has to try and beat his opponent by run, run and more run, leaving himself exhausted. I agree that on a player like Welsh who was hurting him the other way, Judd had to be more accountable but generally you've got to make space for yourself when tagged which can leave you exposed going the other way.

What a crock of shit.

Lloyd is the most vacant player and leader in the AFL.

Judd was inspirational as Captain against the Saints and inspired our players to lift.

Are you that naive that you believe Fevola isn't told to change his attitude by Judd and Ratten?

You're assuming that Fevola has the attitude to take any criticism on board and not sulk.

Thanks for the advice.

Your seventeeth flag should be just around the corner.

I give Fev plenty of criticism but I don't expect Judd to carry us every week. Others should be stepping up when Judd is good and bad

Geez, all this Essendon over-confidence is just giving me the shites. No, Carlton are not terrible, the played woeful last night, but remember 4 weeks ago when Essendon got ANNAILATED by Geelong. Teams can turn around.

Judd should never be criticised simply because he is an absolute lead from the front trooper (i.e Entire 2007 playing with a sever groin injury, and even rnd 12 a few weeks ago playing on with a bung nose). He is absolute cream of the crop; its not his fault that others can't lift when he is being shutdown.

Stevens - Gone

Waite is obviously the big loss to your side, but you have to learn to get over it, every other club has signifcant injuries and you need to be able to cover. Murphy and Gibbs need to own up to their responsibilites and really really ****ing hurt after this one. Take a beating for this, learn from it and come back with that hurt ingrained between the eyes - eye of the tiger blue boys, eye of the tiger!

And don't get me started on the Bombers. They are not that good. It has taken a Geelong VFL player to steady their midfield - which was pretty much gifted to them from the Cats. It has nothing to do with Knights as a coach. They try to play fast and furious and evey 5% of the time it comes off. May make the finals, but will be found out accordingly.

If it was up to me. I would never give him another game in the Navy Blues. I'll be interested in what Carlton are going to do.

He's out of form and probably taking his position for granted.

He needs to be dropped to find form and to let him know that he is not the number one man anymore, not even the number 10 man.

He should finish his years on the HFF.
