Why is everyone down on North?

Every year they're one of the oldest and most experienced teams, yet they achieve nothing.

It must be so frustrating being a North supporter, knowing your list isn't good enough, watching your club top up every year as if it is. You've just been finishing 8th or 9th the past 10 years, out of range of the top draft talent.

Hurry up and get rid of brad scott and commit to an actual rebuild.

They are all playing pretty decent football at the moment. Weitering has been great this season, especially on the weekend against Westhoff. Dow seems to have stepped up. Setterfield has played 4 games but looks more than comfortable at this level. SPS has stepped up this year and has improved his fitness. It has been our senior players who have let us down at crucial points in the matches this year. The kids are going well. Can us all you want I'm more than happy with our exciting young list and would take it over North's bog average aging list. At least future success is a possibility. North are at the stage where they surely must be contemplating a full rebuild

Ben Brown is a tad overrated. Flails around and wins frees, but that was on lesser defenders with Waite there.

Doesn’t seem to have that ability to be the focal point.

Still a very good player and what I hope Schache will become at minimum. Good, tall, hitup option.

Brown isn't overrated, we're just too predictable. When you have only one real forward in your team, it isn't hard for opposition defenders to see where the ball is going to go. Mason Wood really needs to stand up, but I'm unsure whether he'll ever put it together. The other option is Nick Larkey, or to draft even a single decent small forward.

Baffling how Ahern can’t get a game when they have guys like Simpkin and Turner running around. In fact I’m usually baffled by the selected 22. There’s at least 5 changes that could/should be made but in classic Brad Scott fashion changes this week will be something like:

Yep can't argue with any of that. Its one of the biggest complaints about BS, he plays favourites with certain players who don't perform, and doesn't seem to reward players who are. Simpkin, Turner, Wood and Lmac to name a few, are players who have put in constant putrid performances that would see them sent back to the 2nds in any other club, but they constantly are rewarded with selection at the NMFC.

How do you over achieve ? Doesn't make sense. That's the same as saying played above themselves

If according to your perspective a side finishes above other sides that you rated higher, then you have under estimated that side or over rated the others, not a case of them playing above their abilities or over achieving.

Playing below their abilities however is another thing entirely

anyway its only 2 games in & according to my admittedly bad memory didn't Collingwood start last year 0-2 ? they went alright after that

I suggest you all go and look at the 'Top 10 midfielders' thread. This should give you an idea of why everyone's down. We have depth but not the class at the top to match it with the best teams.

LDU is a star and Cunnington is elite though. Will be looking for Taryn Thomas to come on but you aren’t awful in the mids

I agree. But people do tend to be down unless you've got guys that have won brownlows or been close (Fyfe, Danger, Cotchin, Dusty, Mitchell etc.) or won flags (Bont) or play for Collingwood. And realistically even I can't put Cunnington in the top 10, and I love him.

LDU is the one who could change things.

I wouldn't mind giving another coach a crack with these players. It doesn't mean much, but when healthy we are deep and on paper as good as our 2015-16 teams. I'm intrigued as to what a great coach could get out of them.

Cunnington would be in my top 10 easily and it’s not close. He’s been criminally underrated for years. LDU is a future star though

Could easily be bottom 4 if confidence drops any lower and there are injuries.

Still reckon they'll play finals. Adding a handful of players to your lineup who have never played for the club before will set you behind regardless of how much prep you put into pre-season. Still heaps of best 22 players to return from injury, particularly in defence so as time passes, I reckon they'll stabilise and put it together in the back half of the year and waltz into finals in some form.
