Re: Why are you a Port fan??

Port Power doesn't exist.

I do support the Port Adelaide Football Club, which currently has the nickname 'Power', and have done so since day dot.

Re: Why are you a Port fan??

I got the idea for this thread from the Geelong board.
So why do you barrack for Port Power. Were you a Port Magpies supporter or did you jump on the bandwagon around the 2004 Premiership or something else.

I've gone for Port Power since day dot in 1997. I was only 6 years old, was really starting to get interested in football and Port were the new thing. Also one of my mates started being a Port fan as well, so he encouraged me.
I can't tell if this is a troll or not? anyway...

I've only started getting into footy in the last few years, have always been a Port fan and enjoyed the 04 Prem but didn't really watch too much footy back then (I was 12) Started to watch every game in 2006 and have rarely missed a game since...

I only used "Port Power" as easy way to differentiate between AFL Port and SANFL Port

No did not create this thread to troll. I was genuinely interested in why the people on this board went for Port

This is the first I'd seen of this thread but anyway, here goes...

My father played for Woodville Colts back in the late 60s so I was heading towards being a Peckers fan as a young boy but when I was about 5 or 6 my Nanna told me about my great grandfather who played for Port in the 50s. (I think the name was Kellaway) and that, as they say in the classics, was that.

Spent a few years working in Melbourne from '89 to '92 where I was asked who I supported. My answer confused a lot of people until '91. ;)

In 1988 and I was 9 or so years old and from a family of Glenelg supporters (but very rare football attendees) and I had a close mate at school (RIP) who used to go to watch the Maggies every week with his mum. They started taking me with them occassionally at first, but by the end of the season I felt as if I'd supported them my whole life.

I'm still the black sheep of the family - they're all Cow fans but I could never bring myself to support them.

Re: Why are you a Port fan??

'AFL Port' is 'SANFL Port (1877-1996)' ;)
Exactly.

I can't fathom why people who claim to be Port supporters use "Port Power" to differentiate between the Port Adelaide Football Club, who have been called "Port" since well before any posters on here were born and the Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club who played their first game in any competition in 1997

Surely if you are you referring to the PAFC it is simply "Port" and if you are referring to that new club it is "Port Magpies".

Re: Why are you a Port fan??

As a Sturt supporter I have the choice of a made up 'Adelaide' team that was initially dominated by w***er Glenelg people and run by failures such as Fantasia and John Reid and based at.... West Lakes. Or the arch enemy Port, which was made up of Port people and based at Alberton/West Lakes.

My mind was made up when I saw the first list that the Power had and it was clear they knew what they were doing when it came to recruiting. Don't think just because someone is not a traditional Port person then they love the Crows! They don't have any presence whatsoever in my area - in fact I am surrounded by Port blokes at Unley and Hyde Park!

I still think Port could do a lot more to get new fans - and the way to do it is not trying to look 'modern' - just the opposite. Adelaide Oval for a start as home would make Port 'the' team in Adelaide.
