Should/when they beat an undefeated west coast at docklands on the weekend, the spotlight will be on them and rightly so.
They are the form Victorian side playing great football with clearly good depth.

I have to admit I didn't see them coming on so fast but players like crameri, Hurley, Stanton, bellchambers, heppel are turning into genuine superstars they are on track to finish top four and if they do watch out.

Surely they have to be considered legitimate flag threats??

NO CHANCE. None at all.

Next year is the year they will push hard. Need to win a final first.

List demographic will be almost perfect next year. Having our best 22 on the park will be nice too.

Still a bit immature/inexperienced and prone to errors, see Anzac Day.

Add Joe Daniher to the forward line and we will be laughing.

One thing the club has now is the hatred of losing. Super competitive and tough. Hardingham/Hocking/Howlett/Lonergan/Hibberd are hard units and inspired picks.

win or lose people will probably point to the eagle's injury list when talking about the form of essendon.

Who did Carlton have out?

Essendon's injury list has been horrific.

That excuse holds no weight whatsover this weekend.

If eagles play the way they have all year, with the same intensity essendon will have deserved the win and if they win well people will quickly forget about injuries, I've heard some commentators say injuries don't mean much with current structures.

Close the thread and reopen it in 12 months time when it will be valid.

We won't even finish top 4 this year, so no hope for the flag if we cannot even do that.

Not sure if serious.

On this weeks game id still be tipping the eagles if it was at home but away from subi and given all the injuries may go with essendon.

Pears/Hurley/Hibberd/Hille/Crameri/Mcveigh/Myers are all best 18 players.

Few structural concerns for the Dons too.

just going by public perception of these things... it's not as if we don't hear the eagles fans telling us all the time about all their injuries. even if essendon win with their own injuries the question mark will still remain, rightly or wrongly.

Flag favourites will be the team with the best form a couple weeks out from finals, not after 6 rounds of footy.
Essendon have built a pretty nice team and if they keep this form up expect the media to jump on board until the ship sinks just like the Hawks and Blues before them.
Btw Bombers by 20 points this week.

Won't hurley be back this week? Crameri could be a bit of a concern

Most of the others you can cover for well enough i reckon.

We just get home against North, are unconvincing against both Port and Gold Coast, play amazingly against Carlton before being outplayed by an undermanned Collingwood then smashing a hopeless Brissy in Melbourne. Not premiership material yet methinks.

Doesnt always work like that im afraid.. carlton tore collingwood to shreds yet collingwood beat essendon the following week.

It is anyones guess who will win the flag at the moment but i highly doubt it will be essendon
I agree with that but it was more the way essendon went about it and they have been competitive every week, if you compete like essendon do every week you are a chance.
I would comfortably tip essendon against any Victorian side at the moment, maybe.not cats in a final but all others I believe essendon are a better side and I am not buying the under-selling going on, if the bombers can get past the cats I believe they would be hosting an interstate side in a GF.

Carlton are current flag favorites and essendon tore them to shreds, they have to be considered a legitimate threat, no ?

I'd say that Essendon exposed Carlton's soft under belly. The following week they were incapable of reducing the output of Swan or Pendlebury despite the reprieve of no Ball, Thomas and even Shaw's run off half back.

As far as I'm concerned that game was more about ruling out Carlton as being a threat to win a prelim this year then saying whether Essendon will make it.

Essendon has plenty of talent amongst the KPPs, however, a definite lack of durability has been holding them back developing together. In the midfield the grunt contested ball winners are great as is the outside run. There is still the lack of a player that can add grunt as well as speed to break away from the stoppage.

Next year the list will really blossom, hopefully.
