Definately too early to say.

The game itself won't change for the players, just the spectators maybe.

Doesn't matter...Seven can come back in after five years anyway can't they?

I'm reserving my judgement. There's going to be good things like not having to hear Ian Robertson's Carlton bias - which was easily fixed by not having him call Carlton games. It is a bit of a shame though - Dipper was really starting to string some sentences together!!! :p

and he was actually starting to sound better than plugger

wouldnt it be funny if mick martyn and tony lockett umpired a whole game

Well I'm not going to say anything....but Channel 9's track record with sporting coverage is pretty absymal if you ask me....you need look no further than their pathetic efforts with F1 or the Melbourne Storm to know what I'm talking about.

But who knows, it could be really good - but not showing the draft isn't the best way to start. All I will say is this, they had better be spot on straight away, as everyone will be keen to jump of the smallest mistake and say '7 would never have done that'.

What about the cricket coverage then? I'd have to say thats pretty good. Channel sevens coverage of sporting events aint too flash. They bought the rights to show Perth Glory games this season and not one has been shown. The ABC should have kept it, at least they showed the games. Same deal with other sporting events. They buy the events from other channels and then discover they don't have enought time to air them.

On Channel 9 & 10 getting the coverage, I think its a good move. After 45 years its time for a change. Channel 7's record in the past two years hasn't been as great either. I await the new season with interest...

There's a thought....maybe they can get Richie Benaud to tell cricket stories during Fremantle games to keep people interested.

Well I don't know what happened in WA...but I can tell you most cricket fans were less than impressed last week when they left New Zealand's frantic run chase to show the news and ACA!!! They returned with 4 overs to go!

But I agree - 7's coverage isn't much better. But a key thing that may have a big effect on the coverage next year is the World Cup. Channel 9 have the rights for 16 games which they have to show, the rest will go to SBS or Foxtel. With all the soccer games on in our timezone, it seems inevitable that at some stage a Friday night game is going to clash with a World Cup match.

Which one will they show? Either way - a lot of people are going to get very upset.

The reality is, you get camera's to follow a ball around. Whilst the ball goes to the same place then camera's can do nothing different. Extra camera's can show extra things - like behind the play incidents but that is old news. There are no new camera angles. The last innovation was the blimp and that was about as informative as Dipper. The camera on the running rails al la the International series will probably be the one innovation but I question it's value for anything other than novelty value in a game that moves as fast as ours.

That leaves commentary. The quality depends on the commentators. Some new voices will be a welcomed aspect but most are recycled from radio or TV and we have heard nearly all of them before.

I personally thing the boundary riders are a complete waist of time. The add nothing. It is not difficult to monitor interchange movements and we don't need an illiterate "personality" to nearly tell us what just happened.

I would love to have a camera and mic. in the 1/4, 1/2 & 3/4 address' but that is unlikely due to sensitivities with tactics and bad language.

I don't think much can change and not much will. The truth is, I'd rather concentrate on the game than the spectacle. My only hope is that the new TV coverage does not focus too heavily on innovation in a pretty simple formulae. Make sure the camera's get the action and the commentators tell us who is doing what. Don't over analyse because it is generally guess work and as likely to be wrong as right.

Nice piece of trolling, good work.

I think Channel 9/10 are basically hamstrung with Port games anyway - there i no technology in TV land that can possibly make Teal jumper/socks look good ... they have their work cut out, thats for sure.

Thats OK, its Foxtel's problem outside of South Australia.

And thank you, I'm quite pleased. Jokes aside, Richie Benaud would be a pretty amusing addition to the commentary team.

Anybody who lives in Sydney and has been watching CH9's coverage of sport will agree.

Be prepared for 1 1/2 hours of highlight packages, with the 1/2 hour alotted to commercials. I loathe at the idea of CH9 grabbing the world cup. With League then AFL on a friday night, soccer fans will get a watered down telecast.

On the other hand i know i will be watching more of CH10's coverage. ;)
