Just wondering with his current contract status and the whole delaying of talks, whether or not people think 2013 will be his last. Personally think that media is overhyping the situation and that he will sign a new deal soon enough. What do you all think?

Good question and not so easy to answer, so what have we got?

Judd says: I won't enter contract negotiations until at least the half way point of the year
Kernahan says: "I concede that Judd may retire from football".
When asked whether Judd will go on Kernahan says: "I have a feeling maybe not"

On the strength of that alone, I have doubts of Judd going on but there may be other reasons why it may suit all parties for Judd to step away should the right situation present.

Not good.

I though we had him for 3 more years at least

Impossible to say right now as I feel not even the man himself would currently know what is going to eventuate.

I think it may largely depend on what happens with the club during the season. Break back into the finals and re-commence a push towards a premiership, and he'll probably stick around. Fail to make the finals and this may well be his final year.

Personally I think he'll stick around for at least one more year, and may well see his days out with one year contracts.

Look, as much as I love Judd as a player, he is a professional, and has always come across to me as a man who treats Football as a job, and strives to do the best he can at the job (hence why he is always training, in such peak physical form etc). I think as soon as he feels that he can no longer perform at the top level anymore he may call it quits and move onto other ventures in his life.

With the toll its taken on his body, also the fact that his Visy payments have all fallen through (well now has to be included in the cap etc?) and add in the fact that he has always stated he hates the media attention etc, it wouldn't surprise me to see him retire at the end of this year if his contract is up.

I think he will resign for 2 more years.

I have a feeling the club have put a deal to him for 3 or 4 years and at the moment Judd is not sure if he wants to play for that long and wants to see how he goes personally and how the teams goes under Mick before committing.

Hope not!!! But he tailed off dramatically by his standards last season and that hammy in the last game is not a good sign for a 30 year old,i suspect his body will make the decision for him

I think it'll depend on how close we get. That's why the 'wait and see later this year' comment.
If we happen to snag a premiership this year, I've no doubt he'll retire while on top. If we finish close, but it looks like we may need another year or two, he'll sign a one or two year contract. If we finish anywhere below, I reckon 6th (unless we have a crap load of bad luck that prevents us finishing higher - but we still look promising), then I'll say he'll retire. I'm of the opinion that he'll retire unless we are a genuine threat in the next 1 or 2 years. This year will be the key.

I would like to see him play on for a couple more seasons... and I would like to see the club start trying to taper off his workload and start putting more on Smurph... which is happening now.

If Mick can get our inside mids blocking for Judd... or just get Bell out there to run through Judds tagger, then I dont see why he wouldnt sign a new contract for a couple more seasons... and when he retires, get Jeanne to give him a job at Visy as the vice president of environmental education...

Sorry but that job has been reserved for Mr L Franklin as part of his deal to move to princes park ;) .

I think 2014 will be his last season, he's always seemed like someone who'd go sooner in his career than later.

He talks about life after footy in one of these vids:

I'd love to have the champ forever but if he does go, an extra 900k in the cap with free agency wouldn't so bad?

pretty smart guy, will not rush into something important like a new contract. Then again, we would not want to be going poorly by half way through next year. He may want to go out with another premiership and if he feels like he's not going to get one at Carlton then he might be off.

Of course he wants a Flag and who doesn't. Saying though that he will be off to go to another club to get one is rubbish and not Judd, i am pretty confident in saying that Juddy will never play elite level football again for another club and after Carlton it is retirement. When this happens is anyone's guess though but really doubt he will hang up the boots after this year.

I expect 2 more years BUT IF we win the Flag this year i have no dramas with him retiring on a high! :D

yeah I think he will keep going until his body tells him he's done, when ever that is. Come on, he can hang em up after we get number 18...
