Will we beat MELBOURNE?

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

We can't just beat them, we have to thrash them. Ross Lyon HAS to realise this. If we lose, it's unmitigated disaster. If we scrape through, like we always seem to at the moment when we win, then that is almost just as bad. Mathematically, this is an opportunity to boost our WOEFUL pecentage.

But more than that, it's a chance to help the players get their confidence back. You don't get confidence by beating the bottom team - you get confidence by crushing them into the dirt, and having them fall through to the car park underneath. This is what Geelong did against Richmond last year and it completely changed the team for the year. SAINTS MUST WIN BY 100 POINTS. I don't think they will, because Ross'll make them stick their hands in the air and make a watch signal when they're up by 10. But that's because, well, he just doesn't get it.

We will win:

1) Because of the public lashing the players were dealt with after not turning up interstate yet again, and

2) Prob more importantly the game is at the dome (our record at the dome is turning to sh#t, but Melbourne's is even worse).

It's a shame that after the players win this week the passengers won't turn up again next week. I think this is the most annoying and mentally soft part of the playing group, the lack of desire to truly exceed. I swear half of them are just happy to be playing AFL. The true champions that know they belong and want to win are the only ones putting in.

Yes, the win against Richmond hardly made us all feel that everything was OK. If we were tracking OK we would hardly be thinking about this game, but rather the one after it.

I'm inclined to think that the biggest factor in this game will be which melbourne team turns up to play. Obviously it depends how you guys play as well, but we're the team with the greatest variance in form from week to week.

If the 2nd 1/2 vs freo and sunday vs hawthorn melbourne turn up we should be favourites to win. If its the other team, first 6 rounds or vs adelaide, you guys should win easily.

I think melbourne will actually have some consistency coming into this game, so i'd think we'll play similar but not quite as well to how we played against the hawks. If we contain riewoldt then we should win, but i think it'll be a tough game with you guys desperate to win. Saints by a couple

That said, if you lose this game Lyon is in big trouble. Round 10 is too early to axe a coach, but the next 2 games are the dogs and sydney in sydney, which you can pencil in a losses.

There's a lot of water to go under the bridge, but a loss to melbourne and you are most likely heading into round 13 against freo at TD with a 4-8 record and 5 losses in a row. Lose that game and i'd say goodbye to Lyon

Honestly...

No we wont.

Hopefully, and I mean this in all seriousness, we play defensive and get smashed.

If we lose by 10 goals this week then the board (who only got in because of the backlash over the Grant Thomas fiasco) will have no choice but to remove Ross Lyon as coach.

I still think we will win
We will "bounce back" after the Lions to win by a narrow Margin.
Then we will be flogged by the Dogs.
Then we will be flogged by the swans"
Then we will bounce back to beat Freo at the dome by a narrow margin.
Then we will be flogged by the Roo's and so on.

The "NO" voters appear to be all non-Saints so far

So despite the disappointment, it appears we still have some belief in the team

No, the supporters have the belief. I think it's become quite apparent that the team have none.

Dropping Fiora is a good start.
Fiora is actually quite good. (some ppl think he is soft, i know) although i didnt use to like him, last year he was very good, dont know why he hasnt been playing. Good kick, and is one of those "runners" we have been bagged about not having. He is far better than Raph, yet Raph use to get picked infront of him. Also better than jones.

You guys will win. The saints will win this game because they always get over the line against poorly performed teams, even when not deserving (richmond game). The Saints always have the cattle to beat teams like us.

Watch all the pre-season and regular round matches that Fiora has participated in 2008. Then watch his VFL matches. It appears what we consider good is very different.

Well if this poll proves anything it's that we have plenty of opposition supporters reading our board.

We simply can't lose this match and if we do the club will be in for the kind of media scrutiny that only St Kilda can generate. And it will be deserved.

Yes, but I have a feeling it will be like the Richmond game earlier this year.

For me to be satisfied we need to beat them comfortably (at minimum 25+ points).

We shouldf win this game by 10 goals. Of course what St.kilda should do and actually does is a big consideration. They could easily lose this game. Which melbourne and which St.kilda will turn up?

Expecting nothing less today.

Should have won by more. Ferg and Roo missed some very easy shots.

Don't think anyone should be dropped, unless Baker can come back. Even then he should spend a few weeks with Casey methinks.

Yeah they did well and if they could learn how to bloody kick at goal they should have won by 100 points.

They simply cannot afford conversion like that against the Bulldogs next week if they want to win.

Personally, I had the attitude that a "win" wasn't defined by just getting the 4 points - it was defined by winning by more than 10 goals. Based on that, we won by 19 points, which is not a bad one. I think we DEFINITELY could have won by 100, if the goal-kicking had been up to the standard it should be (flipping John "I'm not Trevor" Barker). But still.
