Analysis Worst AFL contracts.

That's the problem. He's going to be well overpaid at the very least for the last few years of his deal, and arguably over the full length. He's no Buddy or Dusty.
I think he has the match winning qualities that the other two possess but he certainly doesn’t have the image or brand awareness. If you're putting it down to pure football talent and the output of that talent then he's thoroughly deserving of the contract BUT my own personal opinion is contracts such as those are reserved only for players who are capable of generating new fans, sponsors and memberships.

If Kelly's contract can be flexibly paid over the length of the deal then it's actually not so bad because you could have a couple of years where he's on 1.3-1.6 million and save yourself a bit of pain down the track.

Actually the contracts, Kelly’s in particular, can be paid somewhat ad hoc ... more when there is more cap space such as next year

I still think with that many players in a similar age bracket and playing position on mammoth deals that it's really foolish list management. However, I do appreciate the challenges that a new team in an interstate market faces when trying to retain it's talent.

Tom Lynch will go close soon. About to be paid well over a million for garbage performances.

Still worth it though because they got 2 flags out of him but
We don’t win 2019 without him. Jack was out most of the year and then dominated the cats in the prelim. Worth every cent.

I nominated him first iirc, after asking about trelor (Collingwood part of contract)

I'm not sure if he qualifies however being key in 19 and 20

Look at the tigers losing final vs lions vs the winning game the following week against the saints.

The difference between chol and lynch is hard to put into words.

Tigers probably don't get Lynch without a back ended long term contract. Ideally you'd offer him a 5 year deal at $800k-$1m a year, but others were prepared to offer more.

Adding a player of his calibre at 26 years old coming off a flag and a minor premiership is huge.

If he's ordinary in years 6 and 7 then it's no the end of the world as the team will probably be likewise and you have to pay 95% of the cap.

4 year deal for Rory Atkins is a stinker. Barely looked best 26 this season. 3 years to go.

GWS with 3 in the worst 10. And want to bring Lobb back on $700k a year.

Where the fu** do they get the money to pay people like Greene, Green, Haynes, Taranto and Riccardi? Who can actually play well.

AFL "Ambassadors"

Half a million a year for ccj is interesting
This one isn't looking good at all. Sad but true.

I really wanted him at the time but looking back I ask myself... why?

We've already got tall forwards/rucks up the ass. I guess we wanted to develop Xerri and Edwards into rucks, one of them would succeed and Comben's fragile body continues to fail him which opens up a forward slot. But Comben has seemingly had a good run at it for a while alongside with Edwards ticking along nicely. With our current lineup it seems like he won't be a good enough ruck and may not be good enough for that second forward slot once Goldy retires.

No there’s also next year because they’ll re-sign him. It’s St Kilda after all.

Hanners "renegotiated" his contract not long ago. They've probably already split his 2022 salary with some of it falling into 2023 would be my bet.

Wasn't Xerri pushing for a trade last season?

I guess CCJ makes a lot more sense if North eventually expect Xerri to leave in the next year or two.
