I think he has the match winning qualities that the other two possess but he certainly doesn’t have the image or brand awareness. If you're putting it down to pure football talent and the output of that talent then he's thoroughly deserving of the contract BUT my own personal opinion is contracts such as those are reserved only for players who are capable of generating new fans, sponsors and memberships.That's the problem. He's going to be well overpaid at the very least for the last few years of his deal, and arguably over the full length. He's no Buddy or Dusty.
If Kelly's contract can be flexibly paid over the length of the deal then it's actually not so bad because you could have a couple of years where he's on 1.3-1.6 million and save yourself a bit of pain down the track.
Actually the contracts, Kelly’s in particular, can be paid somewhat ad hoc ... more when there is more cap space such as next year
I still think with that many players in a similar age bracket and playing position on mammoth deals that it's really foolish list management. However, I do appreciate the challenges that a new team in an interstate market faces when trying to retain it's talent.
