They are still representing the Port Adelaide Football Club.
And they have one thing in common cracking under pressure had the tiges on the ropes and same with woodville and yet I will cry myself to sleep tonight knowing that the only games we win are the one against bottom of the ladder clubs

Hewett has been a bit of a revelation this year.

Going by Chad' s comments post-match those would be the club's best. Only 3 worth a mention.

Ah Chee and Toumpas top 2 in the paper but not rated there.

Haven't been able to watch the last few matches but that's two disappointing weeks in a row from Howard after his 8 goal haul. Really wanted to see him hit more consistency. It does justify the coaches' views that they wanted him to perform over a sustained period of time before bringing him back to AFL. Having said that I'd say the needs of another tall forward (replacing Jacko) in the AFL side should still be enough to get him in regardless of the last 2 weeks.

Interesting isn't it, if Hartlett doesn't come up surely Hewett or Atley debut ... little to be gained or discovered by taking Toumpas to Perth IMO.

Jacko wont be replaced, let alone with someone who they don't want to risk in the ruck.

Jacko doesn't necessarily need to come out of the side. Keep him as a tall defender in place of Hombsch. Let him roam up the ground a little more when he doesn't have a matchup - some of his best work this year has been either in the ruck or taking marks on the wing. It is a bit of a conundrum, though.

Bassett doesn't want him down back - too tall too slow.

We can't play Hewlett, or Leinert who is a mature ager with elite skills, because we upgraded Eddy, who we refuse to play.

Apparently the mid season rookie promotion is still a thing so we probably could play at least 1 rookie if we wanted to.

Quite the logic bomb, isn't it? I don't know anything about Leinert but I agree seems odd that we upgrade Eddy, which means he's seen as more than just a "break glass in case of broken Dixon" pick, then we play Dixon further up the ground with considerable impact, in a role Westhoff has never really grabbed with both hands let alone one that Eddy could emulate straight up, then we *dont'* play Eddy at all, apparently after "discovering" his alleged aerobic limitations. If our SANFL watching traditional recruiters couldn't measure it, HTF could our supposed world class sports scientifickers have missed it after a full preseason to the point that we upgrade "the wrong guy"?

Someone misjudged something seriously I think. Or a few people misjudged a few things.

Hewett if he's got a bit more zing to him in the middle seems far closer to what we were hoping for from Toumpas - the only other viable option that would let us "manage" Hartlett is Houston who is more a natural defender/distributor like Broadbent. How is his unique blend of speed and endurance anyway? ;) Amazed at Atley's 13 tackle stat too. Would love there to be a sensible way for both Hewett and Atley to debut this weekend but I'm not sure there is one. Inside and contested wasn't the core of the problem on the weekend, finishing, turnovers and defensive work/work rate high up the field was. B*st*ards seemingly ran past us far too easily on turnovers but I was only watching on my phone.

There should be a Champion Data category for effective vs ineffective pressure acts up forward, and let's slice them up into "offensive forward pressure" (trying to effect a score) and "defensive forward pressure" (chasing a jumper/turnover/kick-in) as well. Makes for a nice bloody quadrant, to end once and for all the debate on the merits of say, Neade and to help the judgement skills of "forward pressure fetishists" on our coaching staff. For this consciously incompetent follower of the debate, if Neade is spoiling a ball to the ground against a taller opponent, gee good on him for the pound for pound contest, and it probably means the wrong bloke is setup for "crumbing" up against a more agile opponent. Unless Wingard is up forward too...

sorry, there I go again... tl; dr version: Atley in, Hartlett out, because injury, list management screw-up and "the rules".

I'm liking Hewett. Hope he gets another year contract.

not seen him play but noticed the positive comments on these threads this year particularly after most had just about had his cards marked. if he can play midfield and HBF with competence and consistency and has some speed and attitude he ought to have a future here, particularly in 2099 when Hammer's contract expires. got my eye on him for a supercoach smoky next season too

A bit of passion that third quarter was disgraceful.
I would have thought if you were in a reserves team you would be busting your ass to get in to the AFL side.
You're kidding!

SPP and Houston from the start and that's it.

I will be very surprised if anyone else will debut from the Maggies this year because Ken is playing safe.

If someone isn't playing for the jumper then it would not surprise me - reward form my ass!

Don't know why everyone was so excited about Snelling, he's exactly the sort of short, poorly skilled SANFL specialist we already have too many of in the team. Shiny new toy syndrome I guess. If he'd managed to get himself a gold pass he'd be a whipping boy on here within a year or two.

Was very impressive in the last AFL game last season + this seasons SANFL pre-season games but when this season started it went downhill from there.
