yarran V sidebottom

Heh, yes, a player who kicked 10 goals in a TAC GF as a HFF & backed it up with 27 disposals on Bernie Vince in a Final doesn't have as much potential as a player who struggled in the VFL in 2009.:thumbsu:
It's the way all of Bigfooty thinks. If you're indigenous and lazy, then you have enormous upside.

Yarrans potential is exponential. Hopefully extra work on the track pays off and he becomes the player he has shown glimses that he can be. From potential alone he will be a better player than Steele although time will tell. Glad we have taken the risk on Yarran as he will be a match winner

You need to look up the word exponential.:o

I picked Yarran because he plays for Carlton...lol! He'll be a good one for us though.

That Sidebottom can play though. 10 goals in a GF, a good first year in the big time, will be a player.

Dunno who'll be the best. Both will be good. Might wait until they're developed further.

Yarran will play his best footy when he gets home sick and goes back to WA to join Lecras on the Eagles forward line.

All this crap about upside! Sidebottoms under 18 GF performance was awesome and shows he is more of a match winner.

But the main factor is this kid already showed he can play in AFL finals game and dominate. Ziebell, Vickery, Sidebottom, Beams and Post will all be better players than Yarran who may be ok but will never reach the levels of other players in this super draft.

Sidebottom so easily it is not funny.

And if any of you want to argue, go watch the Adelaide vs Collingwood sem final last year, if Sidebottom wasn't best on ground he was a close second.

Over the last few years, several first year players have had impact son finals, Rioli, Selwood, Rich and Sidebottom are the 4 that stand out.

I can't see Yarran being anything other then a Daniel Wells type player, a player that on his day can be brilliant, but lacking consistency and the type of player that will always let you down in big games under physical pressure.

As Sidebottom already has shown he has a great ability to not only win the ball but both create play and read the play like very few players, let alone 18 year olds can.

Sidebottom will be contesting for Brownlow's and Premierships while Yarran is playing 15 games a year and contesting for 8th spot.

His Aunty would be faster than Sidebottom and the rest of your mids.

If we had your overpaid and overrated spud recruiters, we'd draft flash in the pans like Dale Thomas because they played well in the TAC Cup final.

Derek Hine finalises his rankings by looking at BF's draft board and Inside Football.

Don't let facts get in the way of a poor troll.

Sidebottom is just 13 days younger than Yarran who kicked 39 goals in 13 WAFL games.

Kane Lucas and Dustin Martin are just six and five months older than Yarran.

Sidebottom and Beams are about as likely to be superstars as Cloke, Anthony, Swan, O'Bree, Shaw, Ball, Maxwell and Pendlebury.

The Pies are a well coached and well drilled team, yet they have stuff all elite talent to help them go all the way when it matters.

Collingwood were the only finalist who didn't have a superstar or future superstar on their list.

An interesting view..

An even more interesting debate.

Bit of revision required here

Is 10 goals from the midfield in a TAC cup grand final what you would consider match winning?

He didn't play midfield that night, and it needs to be highlighted that he was deliberately isolated on a poor Dandenong defender in that match.

It also needs to be highlighted that 10 goals in any GF on virtually any defender is a far from poor effort.

Highly talented with all the tools but a long way to go to prove himself like all youngsters.

It is an excellent effort, but if you watch that match closely you will notice that Phil Bunn isolated the excellent young Dandenong defender and Geelong recruit Tom Gillies, high up the ground, in order to isolate Sidebottom.

When Gillies got back, Sidebottom didn't have it so easy.

The depth of forward talent that the Bushies had on that night was amazing. The Stingrays couldn't cover them all and Sidebottom was the one that got off the leash.

It needs to be recognised that tactics played a major role in Sidebottoms game on the night.

Highly talented with all the tools but a long way to go to prove himself like all youngsters.

He will be a very good footballer at the bare minimum (assuming no major injury issues).

Agreed on both counts the bushies were bursting with talent and form and like you say someone had to get loose, young sidey got the opportunity and capitalized on the big stage, at least he doesn't get stage fright which he showed again against the sainters in both GF's. Like all youngsters consistency during the year was his fault this year. Given another pre season and an improve in consistency could see him a regular, but will need to beware that increased exposure will bring increased attention and better personal opposition and be ready to step up.

Will be interesting to watch his progress during the year.

One is a premiership winning small forward.

The other can't get a game for a team that hasn't won a final for 9 years.

Yarran coming 8th in the Brownlow after only 15 games would be a great effort ;)

Seriously though, Sidey kills Yarran at the moment. He is all class and extremely poised for a kid.

Yarran flitters in and out of games, and whilst his good is very good, his quiet patches produce nothing, whereas Sidey contributes way more consistently and is very team orientated.

I would like to re-visit this in a couple of years though.

Sidebottom looks a very good player.

Yarren has not done much yet, but I love the way this boy moves, seems so effortless, I think he lacks in the courage side of things, but so did Lovett, but in time I think Yarren could be a super player, but he needs to get a bit of will power and work hard. If he does look out.
