TT:
By the tone of your post, you sound like you would think there would be 3 teams in Sydney by 2005.
By the latest indications, it is very unlikely that any team will relocate to Sydney, at least not for another 2 decades, because the Sydney people just don't want to support any other team than Sydney.
The relocation to sydney plan effectively died when the Kangaroos only got 9 000 for the game against Richmond.

Gentlemen,

The list was largely tongue-in-cheek - note the Crawford/Alessio trade, and St Kilda merging with Hawthorn, neither is ever going to happen - I wasn't being terribly serious.

However, as they say, many a true word is spoken in jest. I think that long term (10-20 years) there will be some changes to the AFL.

TigerTuff - Tasmania or Canberra aren't big enough to support an AFL team by themselves, but together? Maybe, maybe not. You can bet that if there isn't an AFL team in Tasmania in 10 years time, there will be a Rugby League or Union team there.

If an AFL team were to happen I would say they would train and be mainly based in one (probably Canberra) and play 6 home games at one location and 5 at the other. Both areas would maintain social clubs.

WCE2000 - I was being flippant about three teams in Sydney but in the next few years I believe that there may be developments that will make this a possibility.

I firmly believe that Australian rules is such an obviously superior spectator sport to Rugby League that people from NSW will see the light, just as they are beginning to in Queensland.

That being the case, football would need to be played in Sydney on a weekly basis, and that requires a second team in Sydney to play every other week.

Remember, Sydney has a population of nearly 3 million. They can't all go to watch the Swans.

Cheers,

and you're right TT, they can't all go and watch the Swans, but the problem is they are not interested in watching any other team either !

Angel,

You are right, I should have made it clear that I meant approx 3 million adults, not the total population. Bad mistake!

You said that Sydney people aren't interested in supporting another team, and in the short to medium term I agree.

In the long term I think that another team, based full time in Sydney, could develop a support base there, which I think would be extremely beneficial to the Swans also.

A Sydney derby would be very good for football in general, and the Sydney Swans in particular. They would make a fortune out of it.

paul hasleby will deffinetly be captain but if not there is talk that freo officials are offering bell a captaincy role if he comes back the eagles are also trying to get himalong with daniel chick his wife wants to come to wa
