Crying over people in detention while turning a blind eye to those that drowned whats new? Remember Rudd voted himself in NOBODY voted for him remember. And when Rudd announced the new 'compassionate' way for dealing with asylum seekers this board was strongly against it.

If we don't count the thousand who drowned off our coasts, the reopening of the offshore detention centers, the billions wasted and the thousands in detention then the compassionate way was a tremendous success.

Nope. They just contact people smuggler from international criminal syndicate who is offering Australian citizenship at the end of the journey and they pay up to 12-15000K for syndicate to get them to Christmas Island.

Its hard to claim the moral high ground when you support policies that cause mass murder. Does not stop them trying though.

Remember Rudd voted himself in nobody one this board voted for him and certainly were not cheering when he changed the immigration system to be more 'compassionate.'

It changed the face and destiny of Australia and is the foundation of the multicultural society we have today.

So riddle me this - how come this poster who owes everything to Australia throwing open its doors to WW2 refugees in an orderly program - want to see our immigration and humanitarian program contracted out to criminal people smuggler syndicates? Why would she want to see people like her family denied refuge in Australia - as thousands were by Rudd and Gillard - because their places were all hijacked by cashed up people smuggler clients.

And why on earth would she want to see the people smuggler customers continue to put their children at risk of drowning at sea? The justifications are so painful.

2 wrongs don't make a right.
Locking people in detention centres until they literally go mad isn't the right answer.
Ask yourself if you would like this to happen to your children or someone in your family.
Claiming that this is compassionate because the alternative is worse doesn't make sense.
It just means both solutions are wrong.
Anything that diminishes our common humanity and compassion is wrong & selfish.
Making yourself feel less selfish by pointing your finger at others doesn't work either.
There has to be a better way.
Political leaders should make us want to aim higher, not race to the gutter and then try and pat us on the back because we are all being selfish together.

I know I'm being idealistic and there isn't an easy answer but we can do a lot better than what is going on now.
