Thanks Rusty, looking at who we could’ve picked at #5 that draft makes me feel sick! 🤦‍♂️🥴

Gut feeling says all discounts will be removed and lets be real that's the right call, that's where the biggest angst is, it's not the matching it's the discounts.
So the AFL are fully funding and developing junior pathways in the north states now? That's great news.....

Discounts remain for as long as we are doing the AFL's job of junior development pathways at our own cost.

We still would get the advantage to match the bid it’s really the fairest system for everyone

Still think we hold the advantage in any such discussions. Take our advantage, we pull the academy and you risk killing the game at junior level in the Northern states. If Dillon is keen on growing the game in the North like he says, he's not going to risk it.

Caleb Serong is the only one that in Harry Hindsight that screams pick me. The rest are pretty much average(taking in mind Green and Henry were off limits). Must be difficult picking pimpled faced teenagers just out of high school and predicting their football futures.

Hayden Young is a jet

Yes hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I’d take Will Day ahead of all of them… he’s top shelf!!

I've just finished watching a handful of the draft prospects highlights and I would be very happy if we drafted Connor O'Sullivan
I'd be ecstatic, but prolly not gonna happen. I like the look of Charlie Edwards, but 12 may a bit high for him. If Cleary drifts a bit, maybe a sneaky trade up.

Hayden Young will go down as the best player from that draft. Don't @ me.

He took a while to come good. It just goes to show how hard it is looking at pimpled faced teenagers and predicting their trajectory. Not an exact science. Many variables. Look at Oliver. Very talented. But has issues that are affecting the club.
Need talented players. But also need team/club oriented players. Must be difficult assessing talent and then whether that player will not upset the applecart of the club and the team with their 'off field issues'. These issues may or may not materialize. But they have to be taken into account when drafting players. There are risks with all players in talent/future growth/will they develop/have they issues that can be fixed/coachability/go home factor. Lots of these thing we don't know when we look at a draft after it has been done and wonder why we did not pick xyz.

Nothing special??

I think media sleeping on him like they slept on Gulden. I reckon a bid comes for him in late 20s/early 30s at latest.
This is from earlier this week in another write-up

Yet the hard-nosed Swans Academy prospect may not attract a bid inside the first two rounds of the draft. Cleary isn’t overly quick and there are knocks over his kicking, but he is one of the best inside ball-winners in the pool. The 182cm midfielder tackles like his life depends on it...

Cleary is expected to be matched by the Swans, but after their three [four] acquisitions during the trade and free agency period, they may only take two or three picks in the national draft.
