The fifth person we are considering is Pickett.

Laughable imo. No way is he up there with Petracca, Brayshaw, McCartin and then Wright... surely those are the only ones we are actually considering. And get rid of Brayshaw from that bunch too, if we want a mid then get Petracca. It should come down to 3 if we're not deadset on Petracca (like we should be).

As the full package and on form no, step down from the top 4

But if you're going on their absolute best and ignoring everything else, he's easily pick 1. In 10 years he could be the best player of this draft.

His best turns games. He almost won the game off his own boot against the best side in the comp, SA are not a slow or shite side either. I wouldn't laugh it off

If we took Pickett and gave up 4 & 7, then I'd be in absolute shock.

To me, I don't think we are completely sold on Petracca still - but I don't think we are game enough not to pick him, the hips worry me - someone else had hips operated on who has been in the media lately, cant remember who it was.

For all we know the Saints are interviewing for kids in the 21/22 spot but jee im getting a little nervous

Exactly, if we take McCartin or Wright at pick 1 we're not the brightest, and for the reason that we turned down picks 4 and 7, sure we would want more (and we don't know if there was anything else that GWS possibly wanted involved in the deal) but at 4 we get McCartin (or if Melbourne take him, although apparently they're keen on Lever and apparently McCartin is too similar to Hogan) so either McCartin or Wright falls through to 4, plus we get 7 as a bonus, so would be extremely strange to see McCartin or Wright go at pick 1... would be disappointed seeing as we would've got one of them at 4 anyway, a possible McCartin/Wright + Pickett combo rather then just McCartin or Wright.

Surely the club takes Petracca after all of this.

Think Tambling/Buddy was a little different. Rich were just put off Buddy from the many stories floating around about him being a bit of a 'wild child'. Not cos they thought Tambling was better.
Hawks took a big chance and it definately paid off.........( for a while:p )

Still in hindsight when the Tigers overlooked Buddy they probably shouldve overlooked Tambling as well. It was a double Ooooopsy that one.

You'll find that Tambling was all the rage in 2004 and that Hawthorn and Bulldogs made a huge mistake at the time for passing up on him at 2 and 3. There are threads on BF of everyone paying out those teams for letting Tambling slide.

If we're seriously considering players other than Petracca, surely Lever is worthy of consideration.

He reminds me of Luke Hodge in playing style, versatility and leadership.

If we're judging players on youtube highlights (amongst other things), than Lever's tape has to be the most impressive of the lot. On top of which from what I hear, he is massive competitor and a natural leader. Petracca looks like a massive competitor too, but I'm not aware that he is regarded as a leader (not that that's the end of the world).

Lever also can replace Fisher down back and pinch in the middle or up forward. Petracca is a clearance beast who can go forward. We actually have good young clearance players who like a goal - Dunstan, Ross and Murdoch. None of those 3 are pick 1 quality, but they are all potentially good inside midfielders, to be added to with Billings, Acres and pick 1 next year. I know you shouldn't draft for position, but at some point you have to consider your list needs.

For me, it's between Petracca and Lever (and I wouldn't be upset with Brayshaw). If the specialists had confidence in Lever's knee, I'd favour Lever.

Like Lever but his knee scares me, wouldn't use pick 1 on him, but if I was in Melbourne's position with pick 2 and 3 I'd take him with one for sure.

People will be scared of his ACL. If he played this year I'm sure he'd be in contention for pick 1. Kinda wanted more top 10 picks to snag him too.

Athletes who have done an acl are 35% more likely to redo anouther acl injury compared to someone who hasent done one.

No thanks on lever at all. Reward isn't worth the risk at all

Really???? Dont think the Dogs & Hawks will be losing too much sleep over that one nowdays though :p

The fifth, where?

"Saints coach Alan Richardson says the club still has "a bit to do" in assessing the merits of up to five candidates before it arrives at a decision."

Talent, not position, the key as Saints remain undecided on No.1 pick

"ST KILDA remains undecided about which talented teenager to snaffle with the No. 1 pick in next month's NAB AFL Draft.

Saints coach Alan Richardson says the club still has "a bit to do" in assessing the merits of up to five candidates before it arrives at a decision.

However, Richardson confirmed the Saints would select the player they deem the best available, regardless of the position he plays."
