Is it so surprising? I know he plays the fool on that footy show, but he was an excellent defender and a seniors coach.
Glad to hear this though

I didn't mean surprising in that I don't rate Spud, just surprised by the big impact he's had on especially Tom Lee considering he's only part time.

Unfortunately the cupboard is bare for quality FA's this year. Maybe we can pick up a money ball type through FA but we won't be getting any stars this year.
???

There are no moneyball types available though. Vickery, Clancee Pearce, Jack Watts & Jarryd Blair are the only players on that list young enough to even be a slight consideration.

IMO it's Essendon players as DFA or nothing.

We are looking at a couple of FA, not stars but would add to our list if we acquired them. They still may re-sign yet.
We do have some bigger name trade targets, one we enquired about last trade period who is OOC this year, and another who we have spoken to in last week's. We also some young players who we rated in their draft year who may be interested in a return home.
Right now, to put some supporters minds at ease, O'Meara is not on our board. Not to say that couldn't change though.
Also, wrong thread I know, but I'm very upset for Freezer's latest setback but it's very, very minor. It's not a tear or strain in any way, he just felt a little tight so we now wind him back to ensure it doesn't go. Bloody frustrating but we are slowly getting there with him. Just don't give up on the kid no matter how frustrating his situation gets.

Easier to just name names O Poltergeisty.

Probably the only ones I would consider from that list.. Heppell/Hibberd just out of contract though and not FA? (Vickery maybe not. Lol)

Others a bit old

Just to focus on GWS for a minute.

The draft period they have 3 1st Round Selections (assume Picks 8, 12 & 14) to use on the plethora of Academy kids (Macreadie, Will Setterfield, Zach Sproule, Harry Perryman, Max Lynch, Todd Marshall, Kobe Mutch).

Next year they will only have 1 Pick at this stage (Probably a pick around 13 or 14 i'd suggest). I'm sure they'd love a 2nd pick around 6-8 to use on the next group of Academy kids.

Would it be as simple as Whitfield -> Pick 6/7/8? Would we need additional picks in either direction? Could we involve a Steele or Marchbank in there as well? What other options do we have?

Bearing in mind, i'm dead against trading our 2016 1st. That has to go to Will Brodie or similar

I think they'd want a straight swap of next years pick with Whitfield but they are very confident he'll sign in the next few weeks.

I'm not sold on Steele but I do rate Marchbank so if we could get them both for that pick I think I'd be happy, although I expect gws would want more and we are more desperate for outside mids than third defenders.

i agree on trading our first. dont like it at all.

having said that i'm a bit concerned with trading next years first rounder, given the amount of players coming out of contract next year. our ladder position should be better to entice more players as well

Agree 2016 1st will likely be a best 22 mid by 2018 but a 2017 1st might be like Armo and find it hard to break into our side as we push for a gf where as Whitfield would be getting towards his prime

Tbh if Jack Watts keeps up some solid form for the rest of the year I wouldn't mind us taking a punt on him, as long as the figures aren't too high. Reckon he'd compliment Bruce and McCartin really well.

Slightly more talented and taller , but softer replacement for Membrey
