Done this thread before a few years ago but it deserves a new version I think.

Anyone who has been following the draft for a while now will have had players that they really wanted their club to draft, and most of the time your club would not have drafted that particular player, for whatever reason. So here, lets confess about what players you personally wanted your club to draft, and lets see how good you are at identifying talent.

2009 - Gary Rohan, Luke Tapscott
2010 - Patrick Karnezis
2011 - Tom Mitchell
2012 - Can't remember
2013 - Zac Jones
2014 - Isaac Heeney, Sam Durdin
2015 - Callum Mills
2016 - Will Brodie
2017 - Charlie Constable
2018 - Nick Blakey
2019 - Caleb Serong
2020 - Denver Grainger-Barras, Braeden Campbell
2021 - Jacob Van Rooyen
2022 - Henry Hustwaite, Lewis Hayes

Admittedly slightly easier for me than others due to some academy picks but that is a pretty mixed group. I did well with some choices but others were some pretty big flops. Safe to say Beatson won't be calling me anytime soon and asking my opinions.

So who did you want for your club?
 
Wanted Bailey Smith over Walsh in 2018.

Thought McAsey was a decent pick for the Crows in 2019.

Was wrapt Kane Lucas ‘slid’ in 2009 and we bypassed Talia to grab him.

Defended the Bulldogs reaching big time on Christian Howard in his draft year. (09?)

Cerra looked mediocre to my eyes in 2017.

I was upset the Crows took Dangerfield (pick 10) over Brad Ebert in 2007, especially when I heard he wanted to stay in Melbourne to do yr 12 that year.

Fischer McAsey, lol. With him always looking out of reach though I did like Weightman a lot.

Curtis Taylor in 2018 when he slid, could have been a decent get with the pick we used for Laitham Vandermeer.

2019 - no pick
2020 - Cox, Perkins & O'Driscoll
2021 - Goater. Stoked with Hobbs

Ill add Cyril in 07 but I wasn't following drafts all that closely before 2010.
 
2019 - Dylan Stephens and Cooper Stephens
2020 - Tanner Bruhn and Bailey Laurie
2021 - Josh Ward with our first. Wanted any of Mitch Knevitt, Sam Butler or Zac Taylor with our picks in the second round.

Only been into the draft since we've fallen down the ladder.

3 of these boys now play for Hawthorn so that's worked out.

I do wonder how Tanner Bruhn's career would currently look if he'd landed at a Victorian club to begin with.
 
A few examples that I can remember
  • I distinctly remember watching a carnival game and hoping that David Zaharakis would end up with us.
  • I really wanted Daniel Rich when we took Stephen Hill instead.
  • I wanted to take Brayshaw but had hoped that LDU would somehow fall to us instead of Cerra.
 
2016 - Todd Marshall
2017 - Nick Coffield
2018 - Ben King
2019 - Brodie Kemp
 
Really wanted Kieran Collins in 2015. Whatever happened to him?

We took Kieran bloody Lovell with our second 1st rounder. 🙄
 
In 2016, I loved Tim English, and was wrapped when we got him.

In 2017, I wanted anyone other than Naughton. I loved Coffield. Oops.

In 2018, I thought Rankine was gonna be the biggest superstar of the draft and didn’t want to go anywhere near either King.

2018 - Bailey Smith
2019 - Noah Anderson
2020 - Braeden Campbell
2021 - Finn Callaghan
2022 - Harry Sheezel

Although none of these guys were available at our pick unless Sheezel slips through to us somehow on the 28th...
 
I can't recall the exact years off the top of my head, But I wanted Tim English and Luke Davies-Uniacke in their respective draft years. For obvious reasons, I'd love for us to get Ed Allan this year, however, I think he'll end up at Hawthorn.

Edit Ed Allan isn't tipped to be a 1st rounder, but I still want him with our first pick.

2012: Daniher was always gonna be there, but burned a candle for Stringer.
2013: No high pick so just Merrett but really because of the family connection
2014: De Goey/Laverde/Lachie Weller
2015: Oliver/Francis/Curnow
2016: McLuggage and late Rotham
2017: Fogarty/Bailey
2018: RCD
2019: Pickett/Robertson/Kemp
2020: Hollands/O'Driscoll/Perkins/Chapman
2021: NWM

2011: Didn't want anyone. Our first pick was #36.
2012: Kristian Jaksch (Got Toumpas)
2013: Nathan Freeman (Was equally happy with Salem)
2014: Petracca and Brayshaw (Got them, thanks StKilda for taking McCartin)
2015: Oliver (Got him)
2016: No-one. Our first pick was at #46.
2017: Worpel, Hartung
2018: Ben Cavarra, Zac Foot (Took James Jordon, Sparrow)
2019: Tom Green (Luke Jackson)
2020: I didn't follow it much.
2021: Angus Sheldrick
2022: At pick 13/14 I want Darcy Jones, but it won't happen.

We have only had first rounders again for a few years.

I liked Brodie Kemp in the year we picked will day

I liked will Phillips but didn't think DGB would be available. I also liked Chapman and bowey from that draft.

I liked a few early last year, hated the idea of Sinn but liked Conor macdonald in the second round and alert and sheldrick. Also Arthur Jones late
 
2022 - Tsatas to slide, failing that McKenzie
2021 - Erasmus, Johnson or Wanganeed-Milera
2020 - Bowey maybe, last pick of a marathon first round (pick 26!) so whoever slid
2019 - N/A traded out
2018 - Max King of course
2017 - Brayshaw and/or Cerra to slide
2016 - N/A traded out
2015 - Hipwood, either McKay
2014 - Bought the club's doubts on Petracca, was rapt Goddard slid
2013 - Dunstan & Dumont
2012 - N/A traded out, would've wanted Grundy if we held onto it
