I'd prefer:

First round 3 years
Second through fourth rounds 2 years
Fifth round onwards 1 year.

Anyway Miguel Sanchez Baldwin has to be promoted as he's spent 3 years on the rookie list so we're 3 in the ND and 1 in the RD

Can’t find it mentioned anywhere but will take your word for it.

Once again I ask myself why the league can’t just tell us who’s been upgraded.

Carlton had 45 on list this year with Cincota and Hudson lost 7
Dow fisher traded Plowman Curnow retired Obrien Honey and Philip delisted
Picked up Fantastia and Hollands and 2 Irish Rookies so surely only have two spots left

So it seems that we haven't added Duffy (1 of the Irish) to our list due to his ACL, and do in fact have 3 vacancies, but that we will be taking 2 ND picks and 1 Rookie pick.

From memory we added 1 as a Cat A and the other as a Cat B but we do not know which is where.

Couldn't we just confirm Duffy as a Cat A, move him onto the inactive list, and open up that spot for a rookie or SSP signing?

We could, but it seems that we haven't, given that we have 3 list spots available.

The lack of transparency from the AFL (and to a lesser extent, Carlton) about lists is a joke.

I think the only way this works is that he's either removed or placed onto the inactive list.

Yes. The league has a long way to go in this regard, there is no reason why it should be this difficult for fans to work out.

Lists should be made public after each list lodgement.

We don’t have confirmation of that though. Unless there’s a list somewhere and he wasn’t on it?
No confirmation, and for some inexplicable reason, no lists published.
However, it's the only possible way (short of us cutting another contracted player, without announcing it) for us to have that 3rd available pick.

So how many clubs have kept a list spot open?
From memory:

Collingwood - 3
Gold Coast - 2
Fremantle - 1 (will sign Sharp but have moved Corbett to the inactive list)
Melbourne - 1 (but will sign Hore)
North Melbourne - 1
Richmond - 1
Western Bulldogs - 1

pies 3 is surpising
would assume they keep one of those spots free for MSD

then take 2 SSPs one of those looks likely will kelly

at north hoping we take a small forward via SSP

You were right dees signed hore to take up their last spot

Suns apparently will trial people but if I were them I wouldn’t be signing anyone as apparently their 5 extra rookie list spots comes to an end next year so they will have to cut heavy in 12 months if they max it out now

Bramble now signed with dogs to take their final list spot

Suns sign very few, if any VFL top ups. Those extra rookies are their VFL depth. And they are rookie contracts, very easy to cut.

Freo seem to think they have 2 spots left to fill instead of 1

Have they added up wrong?

Sharp replaced Corbett
And 1 spot to replace seb?
