So that's one guy in 30 years.

Any others?

Around 6"6+

I can think of a few notables.

Franklin
Kernahan
Beasley
Simon Madden

Darren Bennett was looking likely before he trundled off to the NFL.

Your argument is flawed though.

A 200cm ruckman was a rare thing, even 10 years ago, if guys were around that height, they were invariably played in the ruck, not as a key forward.

Let alone 30 years ago, 6"0 key forwards were common.

Everitt and McKernan would of made fantastic key forwards if they were allowed to play there permanently.

So, in summary, about the only key forward who met the height established in the OP (6'8" plus) is Paul Salmon, and he was clearly a success.

All other players mentioned are irrelevant, as they don't meet the height criterion.

Not a very successful bash at Hale, IMO.

The key to a successful thread where you arent proven wrong is to establish criteria that can't possibly be met.

If someone does, accuse them of being a loser with too much time on their hands.

Rinse, repeat.

I don't mean to split hairs pykie cause you're usually right on the money but if we're gonna highlight the difference between 6'9, 6'8" or 6'6.....

Beasley, Kernahan & Franklin are all under 6'5" & 1/2 & as far as Hale goes, they are all exactly 2 inches shorter than him. Even Simon Madden; arguably the best ever ruck / forward, was over an inch shorter than Hale is & he is indisputably a legend of the game.

Tippett is the exception to those mentioned but i'd say he's the much more in 'new' style 200+ player when compared to Hale given he's in a totally different league in terms of all round athleticism.

In many other teams Hale would be more valuable as a starting ruckmen who could be very dangerous as a part time forward.

Hale's problem is that he's become the 3rd preference ruckman at North, effectively forcing him to try & stake a permanent claim in a position that should really be only part time.

I can name one: Paul Salmon.

I can't think of any others. Guys like Lade/McKernan/Kreuzer have had good seasons, but were basically resting ruckman.

We expect a 6'8 beanpole to be our permanent forward.

There is a reason nobody plays these guys (except us) as forwards these days. Flooding has basically negated pack marking. And when the ball hits the ground these guys are as useless as my penis and testicles.

Stop the charade. Petrie is our best forward. Hale is not a forward.

Hamish and Goldstein are both better in the ruck.

Hale goes out of the side.

Time to find our next key forward.

Geez, can we start carding threads like this? (And the Hansen and Thomas stuff...) FFS, the criticism of players is over the top, particularly given the season hasn't started.

We've seen some good signs from the team so far, with lots of kids playing and playing well, a new game style that so far looks the goods and we still have people looking for the dark lining to every silver cloud. Not every player will be hitting their straps at this point of the season (thankfully) and a little patience and belief (in players and coaching staff) wouldn't go astray.

You have to seriously ask what the motivation is. Are such people serial pessimists who'd rain on a premiership parade by suggesting it's only worthwhile if we go back-to-back? Or are they trying to show how prescient they are when a player doesn't make it?

How about a return to the excitement and anticipation of a few months back? It's not like we've seen enough just yet to say we know how the season's going to pan out, let alone how well every player will do.

C'mon, Kimbo. This is the Internets. Why take a measured approach when it's so much easier to just go ahead and lose your shit ??

I try to treat it as an upside. Those posters just work to improve the efficiency of a person's 'intelligent post filter'.

Oh, and this....

You have to seriously ask what the motivation is.

This I really do struggle to understand. Particularly when it gets to an obsessive level that involves derailing thread after thread with pointless venom.

That 3cm between Petrie and Hale is critical. :p

Of course, blokes always brag about how theyre just that little bit bigger than their mates.

But he has been rapidly evolving into a very valuable KF. His contested marking is second only to Petrie in the team, and may even be better. His ground level ability is as good as any 200cm+ player in the comp. He just looks like a key forward now. He has the strength to throw opponents around in the contest when he'd get pushed out in the past.

which is nowhere near as good as buddy at 196cm.

im not sure we're all condemning the rug as a footballing dud, just as a KPF:D

hopefully GC17 think otherwise...

C'mon Zebs. I'll give you RAPIDLY EVOLVING. Hales was that bad last year as a KF that he RAPIDLY EVOLVED into a VFL player.

clean slate for all our squad this yr. Should we kick the ball to Hales advantage he'll go ok. Bit like most FF's really. But he shouldn't venture more than 45 mtrs from goal. And with Drew at CHF he shouldn't have to.Also if the umps get serious Hale's a nightmare for the chopping of the arms rule.
