We're all thinking it.

A tough game against Collingwood if they get over Fremantle, then most likely a tough game against StKilda if they get over Collingwood.

Would do very well to win the premiership this year.

Next year they will likely lose Ablett. The ageing list will become a bigger concern, with Scarlett, Milburn, Mooney, Ottens going further into their 30s. Wojincski, Corey, Hunt, Rooke, Chapman, etc hitting 30 or on the verge.

This will likely be the Cats last chance to forge a dynasty for the ages. If they don't win 3 flags with this side it will likely be seen as an underachievement.

People were saying the same thing last year, "If they don't win a second flag it'll be underachieving" etc, etc. I think they've done just about everything they can to prove they're a bloody good team and one of the all tiem greats. It's pretty hard to stay at the top and make 3 consecutive Grand Finals let alone 4, and Hawthorns ignominious run after their premiership has proven.

I don't remember anyone writing Geelong's demise after 2009.

I can remember people writing us off late last year after we seemingly limped into the finals. Then they questioned whether we'd have the hunger and desire to stay at the top for a 4th consecutive year. Then we've been questioned somewhat after every loss this year.

In other words, we've been written off numerous times in the past 12 months or so.

Actually I forgot Matthew Lloyd was writing your team off at the beginning of the year.

No doubt we'll be finding it tougher next year, how far we drop away will depend on how much our upcoming kids can pick up.

Gosh this might end pear shaped. Who are they losing? Ablett, yes, but as good as he is, he is a midfielder. Their ruckmen and backline have 2-3 years left with Ottens and Scarlett.

The way the system works someone will be right eventually. Hodgepodge just rolling the dice that he will be the one to call it at the right time

Anyway I do think that we are now close to the tipping point. Corey, Ling, Scarlett, Mooney, Ottens are key players and have all fallen back a touch. They are still solid players now, but one extra season and you just don't know.

That's just crap.

This Geelong side IS one of the modern greats.

And I say modern greats because since 1990, the game and the rules have changed so much that it cannot be compared to pre-AFL.

Premierships are getting harder and harder to win, as is loading a team through recruitment and keeping it at the top.

3 GFs in a row (possibly 4) is not a feat that is going to be repeated to often in the future. Nor is their H&A win/loss record.

this has been said a lot.

was said last year when the cats were aiming at 2, also.

how is it then, that the majority of people on here are constantly ripping on the amount of spuds this side carries?

the forward line is useless, and the midfield is slow and old.

hawkins, byrnes, mooney, blake... to name just a few, these guys are apparently hacks, spuds of the highest calibre, and yet anything less than 3 out of 4 flags is an underachievement?!?

surely one premiership with this free loading bunch of spuds was a remarkable and heroic achievement in itself...

I guess it depends on how you measure greatness. A team of Geelong's dominance would probably want to cash in with 3 flags.

Cats would need the 2010 to claim true greatness. Otherwise everyone will be talking about the 2008 loss.

2 premierships and 3 grand finals is still bloody good, but it's no Brisbane 01-03.

Geelong are a great side and no matter whether they win this year or even get in the grand final there is no possible way you can say they under achieved.

Simply an awesome unit and for the players to maintain their hunger for this long is remarkable.

2 flags is more than enough reward, one of if not the greatest sides ever.
