thanks for that Cas, still concerned at why he needed injection in the first place I hope we have sorted it out.

Everyone's calling it a compound fracture because that's what Longmire said. By definition, a compound fracture has to break the skin and it didn't look like that on TV. Even so, it looks low enough to seriously disrupt his ankle joint. Impossible not to have broken the fibula as well, so i think the reporting is a bit medically imprecise. Sufficient to accept that it will be a long road for the likeable young man.

Someone saying he broke his ankle in three places on a twitter account during a practice match or something like that. Made it a real deja vu (spelling) moment for me. I don't know which ankle he previously had trouble with but I wonder if the ankle was weak prior to the impact.

Can't help but look at other footballers who just never were the same. Really hope it all knits well for him and he returns strong.

Having both Jetta and Rohan in the team really gave that spark that seemed to be missing where we couldn't take the game plan to another level. With those guys we had great options and fierce tacklers (in Rohan, Jetta learning)

I hope that his youth, strong mind and desire to compete helps his recovery and he becomes one of those great comeback stories and not of the Jamie Lawson ilk.

I'm no medical expert but I don't think 'break' is a proper medical term. A compound fracture can be a complete break and is still classified as a compound fracture.

Apparently their was blood on the socks, (read that somewhere) so in that case it would have split the skin..

As described, a compound fracture is a fracture involving bone and skin (compound of two forms of tissue).

The risk of a compound fracture is infection, not only within the wound but also within the bone and subsequently the blood (though you can get blood infection from a wound infection).

The surgeons would have adequately washed the wound out in surgery and started him on antibiotics as the would would be contaminated with bugs (he play on dirt and the wound is open). It is a wait and see situation to see if an infection occurs from that bug.

The issue still remains, whether the fractures themselves allow for good re-alignment and fixation, as this is an important part of return to function in this setting. (ligament, capsule and muscle repair also play a role but can be modified in rehab).

Ultimately, at this stage, all we can do is wait and wish him will. Taking the pressure off him to return (and regain his form) and let him take the time he needs to recover mentally and physically is also important for the young kid!

I remember seeing it on TV. It was on the inside of his leg. Must say, nice one 7 not playing it over and over. Yeo Yee(I think how it's spelt) for the Broncos landed and a similar injury, bone and blood and 9 showed it numerous times..

One result of Rohan's injury that has been overlooked, and understandably so, is that he'll go on the long-term injury list now which means that Cunningham can stay on the senior list when Alex Brown returns in 4? weeks time.

You couldn’t tell from the tv as the sock was in the way that low down but the way the foot was in a different direction to the leg could be consistent with a compound fracture. If it had pierced the sock than dear god it would be curtains for the young man.

The best information at the moment remains compound fracture of the Tibia and I cant second guess the medical fraternity.

Alex Brown- Hips - 4 weeks
Lewis Roberts-Thomson - Face - 2 weeks
Tom Mitchell - Knee - 2 weeks
Nick Smith - Virus - 1-2 weeks
Matt Spangher - Hamstring - 1 week
Ben McGlynn - Ankle - Test

Rohan isn't on the list for some reason and also rather disappointedly Tom Mitchell was at 2 weeks last week and this week he is still on 2 weeks. Also looks like Nick Smith is going to miss the game against Hawthorn which isn't good news.

I'm pretty sure that's last week's list, despite the update in the date.

You're correct as it has been fixed

Gary Rohan -Leg - Season
Alex Brown - Hips - 3 weeks
Tom Mitchell - Knee - 1 week
Matt Spangher - Hamstring - 1 week
Lewis Roberts-Thomson - Face - Test
Nick Smith - Virus - Test
Shane Mumford - Back - Test

I know he isn't fit yet but it will be very interesting to see how long Mitchell is in the reserves before he manages to break his way into the main team.

After watching the trainers/doctors putting gloves on and then taping I assumed there was some sort of bodily fluid. When I read compound fracture realise fit must have been blood.

That's good news that Spangher is a week away. It will be real nice to get him starting to put pressure on the forwards. We have some interesting selection decisions with White playing well and Everitt starting to do good things. Seaby has been awesome as well imo. Really stood up and held his own.

Rohan aside that list is looking good and gives us a good base to go forward with.

Hope the words are true.
