I'm worried guys, Last night I had a nightmare that we signed Dawes for 2 years.

Anyone what this means?

Is there bad stuff coming my way, or is it somehow a sign of impending good shit?????

HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEE

Don't worry, IF we signed Dawes it would be for AT LEAST 3 years, so you can rule youe dream out as a vision right there ;)

Does anyone have any idea what the GWS are planning to do with Jed Anderson ??? Will they keep him or try on-trading him for a draft pick improvement ??? If it is the latter then would we be a chance of going

#11 for Anderson + #13 ??? The GWS don't have any other picks in the 2nd or 3rd rd's ATM, so we could throw in a player such as Curnow/Ellard if they wanted a sweetener.

They have done similar trades in the past, such as Morris + #15 for #14 and Milera + Saad + #25 for #20. I just don't know if a 2 spot upgrade, in the early teens, would be enough to get Anderson

Knightmares write up

GWS - NT Zone:
Jed Anderson (NT – Mid/Util)
Height: 178cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 16/02/1994
Recruited from: Darwin
Style:
Player comparison: Toby Greene
Range: 10-35 (GWS can sign through zone selection – likely)
Profile: Anderson is a really high level contested ball winner. Absolute bull with his attack on the ball. During the 2011 U18 Champs was the best from NT and really displayed his talent as a bottom age player and backed it up with another standout effort in 2012. Has some versatility to play through the midfield, up forward or down back. Skill level very good and decision making in congestion in particular stands out. Quickness is above average but what athletically stands out with Anderson is his evasiveness and side step which has impressed. Also like his strong marking ability forward of centre which has impressed with his nice leap and ability to mark the ball in the air, 1v1 and also take a strong contested grab which at his size is impressive. Looks likely to go to GWS through a Zone Selection you’d think.
Why:

It would mean we only take x2 kids in the draft (unless if we can free up a spot) but he would prob be better than any 3rd rd kid available.

I know will be shot down for this, but i would take Dawes.

Warnock for Dawes straight swap

Both under achieving at their current clubs and we realy dont need that many ruckman so he wouldn't be any great loss to us. We can also pick up up a ruckman in the rookie draft to replace him ala Jacobs...

I agree with what you are saying to a certain extent. I guess you have no guarantees of who will be available next year - so if there is a player out there now that fills a need for the club (Dawes, Gumbleton) why not act sooner. You could also rattle off criticisms like you have done above about the list of players available next year too - it gets even easier when your club missed out on them!

You probably shouldn't come on to our board and talk sense, we're not used to that from Essendon supporters.

And besides aren't you aware that just like the grass is greener on the other side of the river, so too next years F/A's and trade period is always going to be better than this years..

Spot on mate.

Dawes played his best footy under Malthouse....but struggled under FIGJAM Buckley. As long as we get him for the right price (which looks unlikely if WB have offered 21 andf 41)...then its a good deal for mine. Id also consider adding in a later pick (like pick 70 or downgrading our third round pick - 52 for 58) if we arent going to use more than 3 selections in the draft.

Gillies for free? Worth a think considering our tall injury issues. AND the guy played more games than Laidler who dodgy
Knees looks the goods. Tough backline to break in to. Would cost nothing.

I've been on this train for quite some time. Would be more than happy to give up a late pick for Gillies, who I believe is better than his 13 senior games in 4 seasons suggests.

Having said that, there's every chance that if we wanted him, we'd be able to get him for free through the draft. Would have to be close to getting the chop at the Cats.

In terms of the 2 year contract thingo....its a simple as this - if the club offered any of those players 1 year contracts...and they came out an killed it in 2012, and wanted to walk....we would get duped in trade week as the player would be uncontracted. If we sign for 2 years and they star...then weve come out on top.

If we only gave army 1 year last year, and he wanted to go to perth....you'd all be criticising list mgmt as to why they only offered him one year. Back in your box lads....this is a game of chance at times....you win some, you lose some.

Gee I hope Dawes doesn't read bigfooty, no one on any board wants him.

I don't either but if we did end up with him, he surely couldn't be as bad as he was this year. When you think about it, an intellegent bloke like dawes being forced to hang out with cloke everyday, it was inevitable something had to give.

Seriously, Ellard and Joseph are off the rookie list and both 23 years old and whilst they have both played some good games in the past I don't think there would be too many here that would have even hoped, let alone expected, that they'd explode this year.

Armfield was one of the few players that improved last year but even then I wouldn't think he'd have been on too many "must have" lists this year.

Personally I'd rather negotiate to hold an improved player than be stuck with him for the next year.

Likewise, mentioned his name quite some time ago and the response was pretty positive, would slot straight into McInnes spot down back (which would take the pressure off bringing him back early) solid player starved of opportunity. Upgrade on White.

Simply, Collingwood need Warnock a hell of a lot more than we need Dawes.
Part of trading is improving your list, but another part of it is NOT IMPROVING THE FILTH OR THE SCUM'S!

what would happen to him if he came to us and had to hang out with Robbo:D

Didnt bother to quote your points on player performance this year - hindsight is 20:20 etc.

In terms of your last point....you can be royally screwed if you dont look after players - by only giving them a 1 year deal...they may think you didnt look after them and be more inclined to walk. Signing before a breakout means you get an extra year or two for peanuts...and push comes to shove...you delist and pay them out.

Bell is a good example of how we could have been duped by only willing to offer a 1 year rookie deal. He came good this year...and other clubs offerred him 3 year deals.

Don't be mistaken by Robinson's looks.

The guy is anything but a Figjam and is a terrific individual around the club.
Really proud of Mitch and his loyalty to our club.

he may be loyal to the club but his character leaves alot to be desired

Maybe there will be a new clause in contracts form now on - the "I need to leave because his making me stupider" clause.

A big part of it is backing your judgment, and backing the player. It's not going to give a 22 year old much confidence if you offering him a 1 year deal.
Look at Gumbleton at Essendon.
How many clubs give young guys 1 year deals?

Both Ellard and Joseph have played some decent footy this year. AJ just seems to be the whipping boy.
Davies, had played 13 games in his first 2 seasons, including two finals series. The club backed him, as you would. It's unfortunate that he was injured for most of the year.

Obviously the club expected Brock to be delisted, so that's one extra spot.
Given the players who have moved so far through trades and FA, I can't understand why people are so worried about our lack of movement.

Bell is also a good example of why we shouldn't have signed all those 2 year contracts. Not many players would have the cohunas (see Grigg for example) to back themselves in with a one year rookie deal (even with a vague promise) when they could have had the solidarity of a 3 year deal with someone else.

I think we dodged a bullet there.
