Igloo's spitting the truth. Crameri's a good player but with stringer and grant, he doesn't fill a need. Plus he'll eat plenty of cap space on top of the picks we'll need to give up.

Hold ya nerve and hit the draft again dogs. Really really hope McCartney doesn't panic heading into the last year of his deal.

I forgot to mention, my boss informed me yesterday that we're a massive shot at Stewart Crameri. Massive.

He enjoys it at Essendon, but the controversy is taking its toll. Bmac is trying to work his magic and he's getting through. I think we're in for a bit of a surprise come trade period time, boys. We're going to be quite active.
Any other goss dale? Good intel.

We would all agree Croad was a " pretty good player" but Griffen is a star , arguably in the best ten players in the competition.A long way from where Croad ever got to.
Agree entirely, guess the point Is its an example of a win win situation that the fans didn't see at the time.
Hawks lost Mcfarlane as well but also got a pick which they obtained Sam Mitchell.

I never suggested they won't be good down the track, but why are GWS in particular prepared to trade draft picks [ ie more talented youngsters] for mature players now, even though they know their time is still some years away ?
Because there whole club consists of kids. They can afford to trade for senior types, and they're in a market that needs to win some football games.

Interesting that he's playing in the Bomber reserves!
He was only out for a week or two.

Dal ??? Grant
Stringer Jones Cramerri

Seems like a great idea to me. Maybe we can develop our own for that FF position. I don't think we should trade in a tall player just because he is physically capable for the position. I think we should stay focused on just bringing QUALITY to the club. And Cramerri brings that in spades.

I'd rather hit the draft than bring in Crameri, but that's not to say that I'm averse to the "battalion of mediums" forward line theory. I do think size in the forward line can be overrated. Yep, would love a buddy, roughie, riewoldt, brown. But I'd prefer we want with a fleet of quality mediums and smalls to go with jones rather than a plonker tall just for the sake of it.

If Crameri came, something like:

Hf: grant jones Crameri
Ff: dal stringer hunter

We'd have Roberts and Williams who could play key forward if things fall into place (ie if Roberts comes on or if Williams body happens to stay in tact) if we needed more size at various times.

Give me that scenario ahead of just bringing in a token tall (gumby).

Not too sure the days of the gorilla forward has too many seasons of necessity remaining. The speed of the game suggests mobile talls are the way forward. Crameri will add to a handy fleet of these types. With that I mind, I wouldn't want to pay KPF price for him.

Totally agree, look what happens when Cordy is in the forward line. I fear today both of the ruckman will have to spend the day there as well.

I'd definitely love Crameri but probably wouldn't be willing to give up what he would be worth to a normal club, can't even imagine what Essendon would want :O but we have to remember its still likely Stringer moves into the midfield so that only really leaves us with Grant as a med tall and yes he looks good but let's be honest he's played 3 good games (this year)

I too really hope Mac doesn't start to worry about his contract and pay overs for mature players, I can't see it happening personally as it would go against everything he has said so far and he really doesn't seem like the type, but you never know. Personally I'd back him in and give him a contract extension of another year after next at the end of this season and tell him we like the path he is taking and it's okay if it takes a bit longer as long as we keep on building a good list and improving.

I really do think we will be real active this off season, I hope we hit the draft hard early and use the later picks and players for some cheap but smart trades like last year.

Just not the type we need, imo. He's not a big dominant KPF, which we need. We'd need to pay a fairly high price for something we don't desperately need, a 190cm forward.

I disagree, we need a forward that is cable of hitting scoreboard often, we currently have no forwards that are currently capable of a 50+ goal season, Crameri is, would still take best defender taking heat off Jones.

Spot on. It's scary to think that Gia is our leading goal kicker, with all the sub starts he has had, and the fact that he is likely retiring.

McCartney is about the only one who hasn't panicked so far. He hasn't blinked at all and has kept to the plan and resisted all temptation to go for quick fixes - even during games. Why the hell would he lose his nerve now ffs???

Well that is not quite so but still.
Given our and their 'window' time frame are essentially similar, and that most of our more senior players will have retired before then anyway, I don't see that our relative situations are very different at all.

Yer I agree, he's plan is youth & to play the older guys worth playing just crossy missed out on team balance I feel

White's first preference right now is to get a new contract with Sydney. Horse has said he's keen on him staying around and as long as he keeps performing, why wouldn't he?

He loves the Sydney lifestyle and he loves the team.

It'll take a decent offer to entice him. Certainly wont come for a base wage. We'll have to have a go with a multi year contract and some decent coin if we want him. Freo and Richmond are going hard too.

Apparently we are in Stewart Cameri (big news there) and it is a line ball for Coons resigning
