I really hope Higgins can get over this foot injury. I'm watching the Lions game from round 1 right now, and damn he was good. Kicking on either foot is great.
Despite what some say, I still think he's very important to us.

He is injury prone, and just cannot stay on the park. I would rather cut my losses and play the kids at this stage rather than get disappointed when he does shit all for a month then bobs up with a few goals.

If, and I say, if, we are to try and trade in another key forward, then IMO:
(1) Crameri is not a KPF, but a third tall - don't need, even at the right price.
(2) Having watched Jesse White closely yesterday from Aisle 36 on level 1, he is not a FF, not all that great, and again - don't need.
(3) Gumbleton can play as a marking target from the square, and if he stays fit - do need.

Campbell was good yesterday, and with development, could be a solid marking target deep. But he is also a ruckman, and will progressively (hopefully) take over from Minson. Jones is a mobile marking target across the centre and half forward, Grant is a third tall. Crameri replaces who exactly? White is more of a Jones than a Gumbleton type, and I wasn't all that impressed with him anyway - only had an impact (slightly) when Swans broke away, but Morris had his measure most of the game. If Gumby is cheap, I would do it. Crameri and White - pass.

If anything, someone who can play both ends as a tall would be my priority (unless the fabled Fletcher Roberts appears at some point!!). And I think a big call may have to be made on Williams. If he stays next year, and is injured long term again, I think poor Tom's AFL career will be just about over. Alternatively, are there any KPDs on the market. I still harbour a faint hope that (on brief glimpses in his early games), Roughie could be a decent KPF/backup ruckman, although I don't object if he remains as a defender if there is no-one else.

I hope we improve like that, too. We're not far off.

Alot of people want us to go hard at Boyd, the point I'm tring to make is that we can get one next draft.

Plenty of KPPs next year. Not so great for midfielders but the talls are very strong next season.

Hugh Goddard, Patrick McCartin, Sam Durdin, Jesse Watchman, Tyler Keitel, Jack Cripps and Darcy Moore are among those in the first round mix with those first three looking like top 5 selections and Watchman and Keitel not far behind as possible top 10 picks.

If the Dogs have another high draft selection next year then you have a real opportunity to add a KPP. If a top 8 finish then there may still be that opportunity but it's less assured.

I would prefer we went for midfielders or the utility in the draft as our first round pick. Then take another full forward as our second a Conlon or the like. We need midfielders still. If what Knightmare said is true we can snag our big full forward next year.

I really don't see the love for Crameri. He's good in a good team that needs his type, but we don't. I certainly wouldn't be throwing the kitchen sink at him $$$ wise, or any decent picks to Essendon for him (I'm hoping the rumours about us in this regard are very wrong).
I think we might have to disagree on White. At one stage yesterday he took a contested mark right in front of me, and I though...maybe he could be ok. But then he looked lost/beaten in the next few contests. He's a big boy, just not sure if he can be the #1 go-to guy.
Gumby's body is probably the crucial factor. I think he's a good footballer, but if he won't last 4-5 years, then I agree, give him a miss. I actually think he's not bad 1-on-1, but would certainly not pay overs to get him.
The thing about these three though is - they were recruited and developed by their clubs, not imported. And none of them really set the world on fire in their early games. I think we can seriously stick with Jones, Campbell and Grant (who all look better now than at the start of this season), and watch them develop more. I still hold out (faint) hope for Cordy as well, then there's Roberts. I'd rather try and draft another young KPF, even if it's next year, than pay overs for a recycled forward. (If we can prise the Crows Talia out of them, then we could push Roughie forward/into the ruck as well, but that's a pipe dream!!)

Also, just on Lower. If he's contracted for 2 years, then he probably stays anyway.
But assuming Gia and Cross finish up, and say Vez (and possibly Markovic) get the flick, an experienced, bigger body as insurance/depth is not a bad thing, at least for another 12 months.
End of 2014 could be interesting too - Boyd, Morris, Williams, Lower could all go, plus will Goodes and Murphy go into 2015? Then there's Cooney. I suspect our 2015 list/team will look very different...

Looking at your playing list it's pretty impressive I must say. A lot of talent on that Bulldogs list. Especially in the midfield where I think that's your biggest strength going forward. I reckon you have most areas on the field covered to build a strong line up, but if there is one deficiency it's your lack of ruckmans. I think that's what the Bulldogs might look into at this years National Draft and Trade Week Period. Also another young small forward would be handy, to cover the places of veterans Murphy and Giansiracusa who are nearing the end of their careers. But overall you guys are building an awesome list that's going to take you back up the ladder and challenging for a flag sooner rather then later.

Here's a thought rather than go some spud from another club (eg. White / Tarrant / Gumbleton), why not develop Campbell or Roberts to play FF and bring in more young talent or genuine good fringe players (aka Young). It amazes me that we would even consider trading Minson or Griff for the unknown quantity of Pick #1 when the good sides (aka Geelong) build their premership teams from the ground up.

I have no idea what malthouse has done to him, but whatever it is hasnt worked. Under ratten he was one of the most damaging and exciting players in the land. A bullet like half-back who could roll through the wing and even hit the scoreboard. Was an absolute weapon. Malthouse has somehow reduced him to an ineffective small forward who he won't even rotate through the middle.

It's a genuine buy-low sell-high acquisition. I'd throw him straight onto the half-back flank. His speed, delivery and feel for the game are excellent. He compliments our list perfectly. And the weirdest thing about yarran?? He's still only 22!!! Seems like he's been around forever.

So what gets it done? I'd happily offer our 2nd rounder and Howard. Any other ideas?

I am starting to be happy with picking the best available at 4 and (22)? Lets just keep bringing in good young footballers to keep building our core and then draft a key forward in 2014. We will no doubt get another good outside mid at pick 4 to add on from Macrae, Stringer and Hrovat - and he will just make our midfield even better.
Eg midfield for 2014-2015 - Griffen (C), Liberatore, Hrovat, Wallis, Macrae, C.Smith, J.Kelly, Stevens and Stringer, Dahlhaus and Hunter rotating in there.
There are options for us to get a mature tall forward to help us out for the next couple of years. People are saying White is not a FF. He probably isnt at the moment because Tippett is playing that deep forward role. If we got him - White and Jones can play one deep and one up the ground and will really structure us up. But then again if the club came out and said no we won't be active in trade week and would rather develop Roberts for the FF role - then I would be fine with that too. Campbell is not a FF.

Yep I'd offer a fair bit for Yarran too and I think we could get him relatively cheap, compare to what he's worth anyway, man our back line would be pretty damn set, all at such a young age too. Yarran and JJ coming off the halfback line would be absolutely jizz worthy, We could get some amazing rebound off half back.

Just say we lost Cooney which would be a shame but kinda a win win either way IMO, traded the Cooney compo to Carlton, might need to add something but Yarrans out of contract isn't he and doesn't get on with malthouse so I doubt it would need too much more. Take Lennon at pick 4/5 and then we can use our 2nd rounder on best available 'outside mid' or whoever we think could compliment our midfield. That would be unreal, really leaning towards Lennon to be honest, he's big, has good speed, hard at the ball and could definitely have a 50+ goal season at AFL level IMO, could really make our forward line very unpredictable and dangerous.

Could even put him on the HBF and his long damaging kick would definitely help us with our kickouts, and best case scenario he can go into the midfield and become an explosive mid who can burst out of packs and kick them from 60, reminds me a lot of Dangefield for some reason.

Even if he doesn't go into the midfield look at our forward line...

I vaguely remember watching a doco about Yarran being drafted. He was one of three? players it focused on. Too much baggage there to take a risk on in my opinion. Pretty sure they'll get rid of Betts anyway and keep Yarran and Garlett.

I don't think Vez is part of our future going forward, and I think we will target another elite midfielder in the draft, and trade for a full forward.

I think it folllowed Naitanui, Walters and Yarran, three kids who came from the wrong side of time and made AFL. It was a good story, and I don't think there is any problems with Yarran. I think he would slot in nicely into our team, and has a bit of experience considering how young he still is.

I'm all for White as well, sure we have a couple of young KPF that we can develop from with in (Fletcher/Redpath?) however they're going to take time (2/3 years at least)...We need someone now, and at 25 White is coming into his own, he's althletic and will give us the strong body we need inside 50...People always talk about money and seems every body available is to expensive or sh#t.... When Tippett was available he was rubbish or to expensive yet he was the difference on Sunday.... Dawes, Gumby, Crameri, hell even Buddy would have people screaming... Just want to remind some people that we missed out on getting Barry Hall a year earlier because we baulked at the asking price and it cost us a GF (imo).... 500K is not alot of money for someone who can change our fortunes and help us climb the ladder..We've got heaps of coin in the cap, lets use it??

White is a spud. He's been on the swans list since Barassi was coaching them and has only played 3 or 4 average games lately. I can only assume his manager is paying various commentators to talk him up and get some buzz going. Spud.

I like Ivan's analysis. Crameri is a good player and works v v v hard which Macca will like no doubt but he's not the sort we are looking for. Gumby is the sort we are looking for but comes with risk - injury and hasn't made the step to good player yet but could well. Worth the effort as long as price doesn't come too high.

I reckon he would be good, but then again I thought Panos would be good too!

Reason I say that is that his draft year write-up was very similar to Panos', as a smaller FF (around 190cm).

Not sure those players can make it anymore...
