If Carlton want to build midfield depth then the recruitment of Dale Thomas would bring in pure class with a workrate to match. Granted the ankle passes the medical he would be worth every cent & our midfielders could learn a thing or two off him about a first rate workrate, gut running & effort.

I'd be looking very very closely into Patrick Karnezis who wants to leave Brisbane as well. A mid/forward who would add depth to the midfield & can also push forward to damage on the scoreboard.

Another club to touch base with would be the West Coast Eagles in regards to the state of Andrew Gaff. He is contracted though dependant on what Micks thoughts are on Yarrans tenue at the club, could he possibly enquire into if a trade for Victorian Gaff could happen?

Id also like Carlton to have a chat to Luke Delaney from North Melbourne, is sitting behind Thompson & Grima lacking an opportunity, impressed when ive seen him play a few times. Desperately need a key defender to step in round one next season freeing up Henderson for a move forward. I think Delaney is certainly capable.

On the list management side of things I can envisage about 9 departing the list & possibly more dependant on what happens at the trade table. For now before trade departures are accounted for id have it looking like:

Delistings
Laidler
Davies
Collins
O’Keefe
Dale
Mitchell
McCarthy
Free Agent Departures
Betts
Retirement
Scotland
If they were ruthless - there is a possibility they could delist Carrazzo. If they considerded his wage to be too high and wanted an extra spot on the list and to free up salary cap, Curnow and Cachia perform his role extremely well at a fraction of the cost

Thoughts???

Thought about this the other day a bit but reckon it would really destroy the fabric of the club and its culture etc.

Carrazzo would more then likely take a pay cut before letting himself get in the way of the club's progression plan.

Contracted through to the end of 2015

For everyone say dusty and daisy will go to hawthorn or collingwood. Please remind urself there is a salary cap and with all their stars they wouldn't be able to pay for either! As for GWS their main priority is Buddy so we might be safe there

Martin going to Collingwood would be a very big slap in the face to the players who Buckley has directed his Culture comment at.
IF we do go after him surely Warnock would be a huge bonus for Richmond, not that Warnock alone would get it done so maybe give them back Collins as well.. Warnock Lucas for Martin? Opinions?

OK.

So it pains me to say this... but I'm for going after Martin.

Yes he is a suspect character whose external activities could be damaging to the brand and divisive amongst the unit unless properly handled. But I have confidence that Mick and the leadership team can handle that.

As a player he brings a lot of what we need. He is a genuine midfielder unlike a lot of the quasi-mids we have roaming around, loves a big stage and is a game-breaker. Getting Thomas and Martin with hitout machine Warnock and back-up Kreuzer shoving it down their throats makes for a good image.

Could we fit Martin and Thomas in? Assume around 1.3 a year?

If we lost bets and Scotland - Simpson can go onto vets list juddy took a pay cut.

Is it realistic?

I think we could, even though I have heard nothing I think we will have a huge dip at getting them both, and if we do I for one would be very happy. Get Martin and play him on Grigg in round 1..

Pretty sure it was a three year deal for Waite, and he's playing good footy at the end of the second year...not the worst outcome.
I'm quite certain Waite didn't request to suffer the injuries he has suffered, yet some posters would have you believe he has deliberately injured himself to hurt the club. More importantly some posters want to criticise the club for offering a 3 year deal to a player who stuck fast through the hard times & who, regardless of his unfortunate run with injuries (which really didn't kick in until after he suffered his ACL injury) was one of the most talented/important players on our list.

Strange thing is some of these posters would happily throw a 5 year contract at an outsider, but don't believe any of our own players deserve to be looked after. Perhaps RK is right, the other man's grass is always greener.

GWS would have to be stupid to take Martin though considering how young their list is.......

Why is that, he would fit into their age demographic they are trying to build. Same draft as Scully, just A LOT better player and A LOT cheaper.

The GWS's main issue with Martin would be his off-field issues, and if the club's culture would be strong enough to keep him in check.

Even the better posters lose their shit at the thought of Martin at Carlton.

Mick's not going to want a bad egg. Didak, Shaw, Beams, Swan and others didn't exactly keep themselves in line at Collingwood. You only have to view his handling of Garlett, Robinson and Yarran to see it's unlikely.

Reckon Martin is bad news after he turned his back on the club that bent over backwards to keep him satisfied.

That's the point though. It is a young list and his off-field issues would certainly be a hindrance to a club trying to develop a good reputation in Sydney.

We can't talk about the importance of the Malthouse regime building a positive culture on one hand and then get excited about recruiting a dropkick like Martin on the other.
Dusty: do not want.

I really wanted Martin at the club but after his support of confirmed criminals - NO THANKS.

How fitting that on the same day Martin goes on the market the Lions remove the last piece of the Fev trade from their list.

Hendo, Lucas, Bartlett, Rischitelli, Bradshaw, Brennan to an extent have slipped through their fingers because of that trade.
