Chris Egan and Richard Cole were our 'most memorable for the wrong reason' number 10 picks.In the Egan draft, we also got a dud west coast player, Chad Morrison, following in the wake of yet another WC player who failed to make an impression in Chad Rintoul. Malthouse's mates. No more old players please! And if other clubs cut players, we should be wary of picking them up. Discards are duds.

The youth and beauty of fine featured boys on the cusp of manhood (or is 'personhood' preferred for its non-sexist reference?) will provoke man (person?) love in the hearts and loins of passionate supporters. 183 cm minimum and already built to withstand the rigors of AFL footy should be our aim - bold lads with solid faces chiseled by the cut and thrust of competition, boasting a nifty turn of speed and exquisite skills.

But this is a Taylor Adams thread and I had not mentioned him once until now. Throw Taylor Adams into the mix and the names will look encouraging to even the most sceptical members of our community. The doubting Thomas-es among us will have slightly less cause to question the course the club has chosen to follow Buckley on. Not to be confused with our own Doubting Thomas currently taunting great whites to snatch a chunk of foot as he flashes overhead on his board.

GG you're a crack up. Well done on making your opening comment on Taylor Adams 88 pages in. Otherwise the thread seems to have really brought out your sardonic wit - your 'Dylan Thomas' perhaps (or is it James Joyce?) both high draft picks in their day.

I enjoy reading your prose, the parody of Knightmare over on the Alamanac thread was also well-crafted - you were able to poke fun without being disrespectful - although for me he is more of a Delphic Oracle. I'd like to encourage your creative writing. It has helped pass the time as we continue, aimlessly to watch the Taylor Adams glacier inch forward millimetre by millimetre toward some sort of recognisable conclusion. Especially on this oh so painfully slow news weekend. (Come on Heaf sort it out.)

Thanks for posting the draft histories of picks 10, 11 manchesthair (excellent name).

As I suspected, interesting reading. I first got really interested (read pyschotically obssessed) with the draft around the Cole/Egan era so as you can imagine, my faith in the Club and it's recruiters began shakily. Maybe that's where this inner delusion that 'I could do that job' sprang from. Now I realise how bloody complicated it is. But the later picks do give you a sense of hope that we might be able to pluck something good out with our picks, hopefully 10, 11 though at times that seems too good to be true. Still waiting on the Adams deal to screw up in some way or the AFL and its various ex-Carlton flunkies to figure out a way to cheat us in our compo.

Every club has these gems, as mentioned by Hoggy and BJ etc. We have certainly had our share..
Hopefully they are less in number as the recruiting network increased in number and professionalism.
Creation of the TAC helped to both showcase and add a sensible way of assessing one against the other, at least for the Vic based kids.

Maybe Rintoul could play, but we made a bit of a habit over many years of picking up players past their prime - Sam Kekovich, that Andrews guy from Essendon, Geoff Raines and others from that era up to Rintoul and Morrison from recent times. Any news on Adams?

Thank you for your encouragement WW. Sheer boredom probably produces my more polished pieces. I was a huge Dylan Thomas fan in my formative years, but Jame Joyce 'Ulysses' seemed an impenetrable literary work at uni, mainly because I had not completed the pre-course reading of Greek myths and legends.

I have the greatest respect for Knightmare and would never seek to disrespect him in any way. He never gets flustered, impatient or angry, and seems to have infinite time available to write at great length about the fortunes of up and coming young footballers. For some reason, I imagine his physical appearance to be similar to that of Buckley in Knightmare's avatar. When I request information from him, I often feel like I am sitting at the feet of a very wise and knowledgeable figure, who is also a powerful athlete in his own right - a Tom Hafey or Percy Cerruty like creature with serious keyboard skills. Through treating each request with equal importance, Knightmare is also able to make his questioners feel respected. The fact that I know so little about him only increases the awe in which I hold him.
