Petrie says we were 'LAZY' vs Bris

I can understand the "access all areas" mentality at North...raising the clubs profile, making us more media friendly and therefore more likely to get the bigger audiences......but Id rather Drew say nothing...kick 6 and bust a few packs than go on record stating the obvious...

Attitude reflects leadership. If we were lazy then that falls on the leaders and the coaches.

It doesn't seem like we set a standard and uphold that standard. We have too many quiet, timid players. Similar to Carlton. Players like Atley, Cunnington, Ziebell, Bastinac should be stepping up and helping set that standard. Yet they are still immature players.

Need more players to step up. Simple as that.
Its only really Bastinac you can say that about. Atley continues to improve and break the ones, Cunners is having a standout season and Ziebell has been playing injured or has been injured.

I'm pretty much over the excuses and the claims of ensuring the right thing will be done next time. Put up or shut up players and coaches, and if you can put up then move on.

Yes. Shut up. Show me don't tell me.

Same here. I dont like how i act in front of my 5 and 1 year old either lately when im watching the game. Might drink a few stubbies tomorrow night and try and just enjoy the game a bit more. Easier said than done with this mob though.

I just cant handle the insipid effort put forth and the excuses from players and coach trotted out en masse for the week after.

That's interesting as I haven't got angry whilst watching us this year. Usually things would be being hurled all over the place in the house when things not going our way.

I've just sort of accepted that we will serve up shit and soft footy and watch blankly at the screen. I think i've been conditioned to what is likely to happen with so many poor performances in recent years.

So when we play with really good passion and intensity, like against Syd/WCE/PA, it is more a very welcome surprise rather than an expectation.

Anyway, i'll still put my NM cap on at home (for some strange reason...) and watch the team as per any other week.

I think a media ban on our players for a few weeks is the right way to go.

I honestly don't think one supporter wants to hear this from Drew.

We've heard it all before, we've had enough.

I hit that point last week, for the first time in god knows how many years...30 maybe?
And like you, I'll stump up again tonight anyway.

That is a cop out, I want to hear from the players but I want to hear we had a crack and we won against a young and inexperienced side, not that we lost because we lacked hunger or desire. This group has achieved absolutely nothing and have no reason whatsoever to not be motivated or hungry.

Could have busted a gut and pushed for a top 4 spot, but no, can't be bothered. People just don't understand how insidious apathy is, if we don't get it out of them right now then this group will never achieve anything and they are being lead by underachievers who do not seem to give enough of a shit to take charge of their team mates.

Where is the hunger? Doesn't this group want to win a premiership? After sitting out finals after finals or getting annihilated the few times we have made it, doesn't this group want to be a lot better than mediocre?

I reckon if this malaise continues for the remainder of the year a few of the main culprits could find themselves on the trade table at years end. If that means the likes of Basti and Mullett are put up, if thats what it takes to get the remainder of the group focussed, then so be it. Message sent. You either put in or you will be pushed out.

You know what Tas, I made the same comment to a few mates during pre-season when we were average and the talk from the club was just that it was only pre-season, so it didn't matter. What have we done to achieve such comfort and arrogance? We should be going full tilt at pre-season to get guys into form, the game plan sorted, and to sell promise to the potential members we need.
What happened in round 1? We weren't ready.
We are not in a position to pick and choose when we 'go'.

I think there was some interest in Mullet from Melbourne last year, IIRC.

But we simply can't go at 100% every game. Not the younger players anyway. And few teams do that. It's not sustainable, given where footy is at. Need to learn to win on class when it ain't going our way. Brisbane was beatable even at 70% effort, but we just fell short.

Its not really anger as much as frustration. I reckon im looking like Chris Scott/Brett Ratten while i watch, hand waving, looks of disbelief, questioning decision making, the odd bake to the umpires etc. The Geelong and Adelaide games were particularly bad, since them emotions are running are bit lower as im not expecting our boys to turn up for any games now.

Ill be watching alright, i look forward to it every week none the less. I just get that dirty feeling instantly when they come out and play soft.

Honestly though, wouldnt the main culprits be getting dropped to the VFL first before they up and trade them? We all wonder if this would be the spark that lights a fire, but sadly it looks like we'll never know. Mullett has played better than a few of his compadres, but was dropped before them.

Just not sure the message is quite right. If we lose horribly tonight, the axe needs to be sharpened and fall HEAVILY.

Its about guys stepping up and going 100% when they can, not just leaving it to trusty old Boomer, Dal, Swallow, Pig, Spud each and every week. When are the likes of Basti, Adams, Black going to go 100% each time they hit the paddock with the ODD bad game?

Probably, but injuries don't help. IF JZ was in I reckon Basti would be lining up in Saturday for North Ballarat.

Yeah maybe. One debutant would of been nice this week though, just to give all of us something positive to talk about! Wood for Adams or Dumont for Ziebell.

Fresh blood might give a small lift as well.

I agree on Dumont. Wood hopefully next week.

Having a media ban would not be a cop out.

Listening to the same pathetic shit from the same players after every loss is the cop out.

The players should either be saying something meaningful, or not at all. It appears they can't and only frustrates supporters further, so don't say anything until we deliver consistent performances on field.

I agree with the rest of your post about hunger etc, I have no idea why this group doesn't seem to have any consistent drive to get the best out of itself. You would think after so many years out of genuine finals action they would be the exact opposite.

Under Laidley we were shit, but you could at least turn up to the game and know they were going to have a crack.

If Dean Laidley had the talent and resources Brad Scott had, we wouldn't be throwing in such pathetic performances.

Interesting times for No Bull and the media team, let alone the footy department.

The mood on BF, as people have noted, is the most uniformly pessimistic/apathetic it has been since Brad became coach. I assume it's no different on social media and the mainstream media are also up to speed. This is due to the combination of the the way we played in our weekend loss to a bottom team, AND due to a pattern of hearing 'Brad-speak'/'media spin' that rings both familiar and hollow.

We've often said that the team don't do our membership department any favours. Well, the same must surely be true for our media guys. How do you 'spin' the unspinnable?

Should drop him, give Dumont a go, give Jacobs more game time. Wood isn't ready but give him a go as well, Black has been shithouse this season. He needs to get his shit together otherwise the only ones who will want him back in Perth are WAFL clubs.

The problem is the media, they should be sick of hearing the same shit we keep hearing and they should hammer the players saying it is not good enough to talk about this SAME shit over and over. Are you professional footballers or not? Doesn't your career mean something to you?

It's not so much about their performance on field as their leadership qualities. You know Atley's nickname, yeah? Humphrey because he hardly says boo. Meanwhile Cunnington is a quiet, man of few words country bloke as far as I can tell. Ziebell is probably most likely to become a "give a bake when it's needed" type leader, but he's been battling injury and form issues.

On a more positive note, Spitta seemed more animated and vocal on Saturday than usual, so perhaps he's growing into his leadership role.
