I think we need two separate threads. One for all the media-believing doomsdayers saying he's officially gone, and one for the posters who want to have a proper discussion based on thoughts, facts and logic.

Seriously, this thread is bringing out the inner flog of some of our posters.

I reckon he's gone and I'll tell you why. Watching Mitch 'lying traitor' Clark tonight reminded me yet again of how the AFL works. You see the top clubs will stay at the top because all the payers want to play for those clubs so they will get players who nominate them when they are out of contract or in Clark's case lie about having depression and then retire leaving them free to choose to play for that club. There are all kinds of examples of this and all the other clubs can get, at best, the crumbs that the top teams throw away keeping up hope that they have gotten something valuable. Overseeing this farce is the AFL and its more powerful body, the AFLPA who encourage this crap for the sake of its members...ie the players. There really isn't any use getting our hopes up as we aren't one of the top trams, instead we'll doggie paddle around in the shallows desperately hoping we'll become a top tram all the while getting shafted by the AFL on things like Bryce Gibbs and the Tippett trade sanctions and losing all those young quality players for f*** all. Thats just how it is in our 'great' game.....

I think if he was going to the Cats then the Cats wouldn't be responsible for all these articles and saying stuff in the media. They're too vocal to be the one. I'm more worried about Hawthorn and Collingwood who aren't saying anything.

There is still a valid argument that why the change in enviroment was allowed to be to Geelong and not say the Bulldogs.

I mean many supporters at the Crows were more unhappy that Tippett went to Sydney (and in the end was allowed to) rather than leaving.

It will be interesting to see how quickly the rule changes should the interstate teams finally start being successful again and start pulling big FA players

To be honest our list management crew have been under performing as well.
For example, why didnt we try for Clark? No use bitching that someone did something we didnt.
Look inside for that type of stuff.

You are right, Tippett told the club he wanted to be traded. Brisbane told Adelaide he was talking to them and wanted out. Brisbane didnt just do what they did without any support from Tippett.

Danger should have at least been put on the trade table last year. We wouldnt even talk about it with any club. The jungle drums are getting louder with Danger, and it has the same look about it as Buddy and Ablett.
And then to hear Noble say this year that clubs are going to start looking at trading FAs a year before their contracts are up if they dont re-sign, three months after refusing to consider that with our biggest FA shows just how inept they are.
Im not saying we should have just traded him out, but put it on the table, put it to Danger, and if he wanted to go he may have been happy to do it sooner rather than later.

Look - no offense to you but I'm going to take your understanding of the specifics with a large pinch of salt. I'm sure there is at a bare minimum some heavy bias based on wherever you get your information. I will say though that you've probably moved me a few more percentage points towards 'he's gone' over 'he's staying'.

It's well documented I think the club was crazy trying to convince Tippett to stay and or back themselves in to do it. No one even asks for the clause if they don't intend to use it. Sheer madness.

I think you'll also find many people accept Danger's professionalism and right to not reveal his decision earlier - so long as he still ensures we get a good outcome from the scenario. At least he is not breaking AFL rules. How it plays out if he does leave WILL have a significant impact on how he ends up being perceived - but for now I think its fair to give him the benefit of the doubt that he won't leave us in the lurch. Even if its true that Tippett was open and explicit in his intention to leave (which I doubt btw) -> the scenario of why he had that ability to do so AND how he did not ensure the club was looked after in the situation will always mean a good number of supporters will detest him for his role in that debarkle.

So - I do think its a bit unreasonable to expect posters to be bagging danger now. Not that its unreasonable to bag him.. just its not reasonable to expect we should IMO.
Also - the same posters will be well within their rights to bag him later depending on how it all washes up. If he does indeed leave us in a shit position like Kurt did.
I will continue to be bemused if you expect people to bag him now, or if they don't that they are not entitled to bag him later.
