Fagan said not to repeat what he said at the Melbourne Members Forum tonight, but from what he indicated the club will be very well placed in the future whether Dangerfield stays or goes

Can you give us some clues along the lines of what he did say?

So we are matching if he chooses to leave ;)

I personally see an upside if he leaves.

Will probably end up with two picks in top 20 in a worst case scenario if he leaves.
I'm trying to find the actual page from the greatest sports book ever written but I'm battling to cos i've had a few reds (its my birthday). The book is called "Moneyball - The Art of Winning An Unfair Game". You might have heard of it.

But the brilliant author Michael Lewis says something like - Billy Beane works the rich clubs GM's into such a tither that they truly believe that "player X" is the answer to all their prayers and that the fan base will go into melt down unless he delivers "player X" to them. Billy then works his magic to extract overs.

We have this exact scenario happening right now with PD. And it is to our benefit. No question. We will get overs and we will make it work.

That is the logical conclusion.

Now, Fagan is a smart guy. I wonder if he told this group something, fully expecting it to be repeated. When in actual fact he knew full well Danger is staying. Scorpus did say he did not tell them Danger is staying.

At first I thought you meant he was trying to keep it a secret that we were well placed in general. Sounded like an odd thing to want to keep a secret. Now I'm intrigued.

Have to read that book one day. The basis for the movie??

34,131 posts later and the fact of the matter remains, none of us actually know either way. Everything is just opinion, and an individual take on the situation - the perceived signs, rumours etc.

Having said that, there are also some reasonable assumptions that can be drawn:
- we are very much a club that is still grieving

- Patrick Dangerfield was obviously close to Walshy, also is still grieving

- despite the unimaginable inner turmoil, he is still giving 100% for the club in 2015, on and off the field, and has been absolutely immense in the process.

So, putting aside all past history on players and contracts, can we reasonably consider that maybe, just maybe, Danger is actually legtimiately telling the truth when he says he hasn't decided?

Considering the above factors, and the fact this is a life changing decision, he is taking all the time he needs, and is entitled to, to make this decision.

I know you're only joking but didn't the AFL go through all AFC contracts?
We let them go through all our files, computers and contracts because we knew they wouldn't find anything there

Best post of the last 500-odd pages. :thumbsu:

Also... shut up he's clearly going/staying!

That would be a horrible outcome.

We're talking about one of the best 3 players in the Comp, who is about to enter his prime.

The chances of us drafting a player close to Danger's calibre is incredibly low; because there are only a dozen odd players in the comp at his level, out of hundreds.

That's why if he leaves I would want Motlop a known commodity and someone we need onfield, and their first round pick this year and next.

The only player in the game who would ease the pain for me is Jaegar O'Meara.

We don't need a couple of very good players.

We need to replace Paddy (I'm still hopeful he's staying) with genuine top end talent; we need a pick 1 or 2 type player.

That's what we need to target, and make it non negotiable.

As an example, I'd rather pick 2 and 16 than pick 8 and 12.

If we lose one of the few 10/10 players in the comp, we must replace him with a 9/10 player, at worst, not a couple of 7.5s.

Motlop and Scharenberg would not replace what Paddy brings to the table - I'd rather him than both of them.

We are a genuine premiership threat, with a side stacked with talent.

We've seen the difference incremental improvements from Wright to Lyons has made, Mackay to Atkins.

If Paddy goes, we need elite talent to replace him, simple as that.

Yea before free agency was introduced we would've been looking at getting the number 1 or 2 pick for him, now it may be in the hands of the afl as too what we get......and going by past history, any decision the afl makes never seems to favour us

With the current events, our compensation picks would instead go to North.
