Past #3: Jed Anderson - delisted end '22 - 89 NMFC games - go well Jed

Was ranked 17 in AFL player rankings prior to these injuries....

Just saying.

Daniel has always suffered from the fact that he was the messiah when he was drafted as a skinny kid.

He was expected to destroy the competition from day 1. The expectations on him were outlandish to say the least.

He was destroyed by OP and was played through it.

When 100% fit, he is our best footballer.

Didn't really help having team mates like Arch writing articles how he was going to be better than Matera either.

You could say that but I think we need to appreciate him now for what he is and not what we want him to be. Two Syd Barkers and 200? games. Pretty handy. If he were a St Kilda player there'd be poems written about him.

Sitting at ground level at Docklands, you get a real appreciation for the beauty of his footy. His appears to be hovering on top of the turf when he runs. Or should I say glides.

This could be his last season. Every North supporter owes iy to themselves to sit back and enjoy every games he plays.

And some of the passes that he pulls off. You see it and immediately think WTF but he has a high success rate. He sees what few see.

My biggest regret, besides the missed games, is that Dean Laidley made him a bit too unselfish for my liking. He'll dish off to a less skilled player when I'd rather he take the shot from 50m.

Nice vid GR. Once Jed can get a clear run with injury he can build his tank. Those shanked kicks towards the end of the game are a result of exhaustion more than anything else.

Hugely important preseason for him in Utah.

Not criticising Wellsy at all. He's been great. More a comment on the comment "the most pure footballer." He's certainly silk but my own interpretation on "most pure" leaves him short of that status.

I see a North player.

Tough, aggressive, lacks polish.

He seems to have a bit more polish than a few on our list though so hopefully he can develop it but I wish I saw someone a bit more like Wells rather than someone a bit more like Ziebell.

Not that there's anything wrong with Ziebell, we just need another Wells.

Interesting call. For the "most pure footballer" to have never been among the top echelon of players in the competition is feint praise indeed. It suggests a talent wasted.
"Wasted" feels like the wrong adjective. Suggests some inner flaw in Daniel, lack of application or desire. It might be true but I simply don't want to believe it is, and there's plenty of external factors -- frank injuries and illnesses, misused by Laidley -- to keep me comfortable in my delusion.

He's the most beautiful footballer to watch of my adult years. I remember Greig and Flower, but really only as a kid. I'll be heartbroken when he's gone.

Can we go with "not quite fulfilled"?

If we can find a way to help him rack up possession tallies in the 20's I think he could be great for us. I'd like him sprinting in off the back corner of the centre square (playing out of the wing position) so that Jack when he does one of his copyrighted wheel-out-the-back-of-the-centre-contest he can handball to a hard charging Jed, rather than slapping forward his other copyrighted move, the up-and-under-hoik-on-the-head-of-the-CHF.

That alone would almost pay for the price of his admission into our best-22.

Sorry, looks like I didn't make myself very clear in my post. I do not feel that Daniel Wells is a wasted talent. I think he is every bit the footballer that he could have possibly been. I don't even think he's "not quite fulfilled".

What I said was that if Daniel Wells was "the most pure footballer" that I'd ever seen, as a previous poster had said, then his achievements don't reflect such a lofty claimy. However, I don't believe that Daniel Wells is "the most pure footballer" that I've ever seen so his achievements stack up as good as they possibly can. I wasn't commenting on Wellsy's career or achievements, rather I was talking about labelling him so highly. Hope I've cleared myself up.

Fair pump up about a minute in (even if it is from Dermie - who you'd expect would be getting his info from insiders/Judas). Really clear to see how highly he's rated at Hawthorn (both internally and externally). Again, with the caveat of getting his body right - we've done some fantastic work at the trade table getting him.

Love his highlights.

How well does he move? Bloody hell, has jet written all over him.

Looks tough too, seems to enjoy the rough stuff.

I'm as excited about Anderson as I was getting Higgins over. Hopefully stays fit and we get the same result!! :thumbsu:

Apparently he's run out of credits and is expected to present himself in fine fettle come the first day of preseason training. RZ, Wells hasn't been known as a hard trainer. Has got by on his undoubted talent. But enough is enough, think LT is expected to play more midfield time next year and will also be required to get fitter.

I think we feel we've the squad to do it, just require 100% commitment from all.

I'm not so worried about Wellsy next year, but I am worried about LT. Hopefully his instructions for 2016 remind him of "the no frees to LT rule" and warn him to keep his feet at the contests and stop flying in packs for MOTY. 9/10 he drops it, or goes too early and gives away a free, or spoils a teammate.

I'm excited by the idea of more minutes for LT in the middle! Get super fit and in amongst it where he will be relying on his instincts and have less time and incentive to play for frees.

If he can contribute like he did in the game against Freo(??) in the 3rd quarter to help get us back in it, he'll be more than handy in the rotations.

1 touch in the 2nd half and only 5 for the game? Heh no.

Must be a different game. ;)
