I'm fine with faith having its place, as long as its over there in the corner and doesn't interfere with the rest of us who are trying to live the only lives we know we have. That doesn't seem to be possible though, there are always people who insist that we believe what they do, on faith.

We do podge.....None of us have control over our heart-beat....The God's can take us at anytime off their choosing.

Now stop being ridiculous.

You're a master of irony, P.

Of all the people on this site,on this board and this particular thread you choose to pot me with the "no one takes you seriously" nonsense.
No one has ever said that to me!.
I have however seen plenty accuse you of this.
It was a very plausible response to your post and received 2 likes with more to come I'm sure.
Plus it had humour value with more than an ounce of truth thrown in for fine measure.
Plus, you usually do better anyway, thus my disappointment.

Spartanwa uses a "Random dumb response generator" for many of hi responses
As sampled below.

"A boy related to a swamp is placid. Harpo Marx and I took the comely alchemist (with a halfhearted maestro, the wisely unseemly boy, a few lunatics, and the espadrille) to arrive at a state of intimacy where we can wisely operate a small fruit stand with our curse. If a pocket lazily learns a hard lesson from the rascally girl, then the polite midwife hides."

What would be the point of faith then?

You choose faith, even if your religion is forced upon you. I was born and baptised a Catholic. I had no say in this - I was just a baby. But growing up, I had no faith. I chose not to believe because it didn't seem right to me. I saw the other childhood behaviour modifiers such as Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny (they only give you stuff if you've been good!) exposed as frauds and I arrived at the thought that God was just another fraud at the ripe old age of ten.

I've seen and heard nothing since that convinces me otherwise.

But faith obviously has some traction in your life. It has a point to you, even if it is only a reassurance that there is something beyond this earthly existence. I can respect that:thumbsu:

Wow, it's like....you really know me....

Spartanwa, ya crazy bastard. Are you still bothering God?

Give up on him, man. He is dead. He remains dead. And we have killed him.

ANDREW WATSON: Question for RICHARD DAWKINS. The big bangers believe that once there was nothing, then suddenly, ****, the universe was created from a big bang. If I have nothing in the palm of my hand, close my fingers, speak the word bang, then open my fingers again, still I find there is nothing there. I ask you to explain to us in layman's terms how it is that something as enormous at the universes came from nothing?

TONY JONES: RICHARD DAWKINS?

RICHARD DAWKINS: Well, obviously you're not a physicist and nor am I and I am delighted to say that during my time in Australia I shall be having a number of conversations, public conversations, with my colleague Lawrence Krauss, including one in the Sydney Opera House later - I think it's next week and he's written a book on exactly that topic of how you can get something from nothing and I shall be questioning him about that. Of course it's counter intuitive that you can get something from nothing. Of course commonsense doesn't allow you to get something from nothing. That's why it's interesting. It's got to be interesting in order to give rise to the universe at all. Something pretty mysterious had to give rise to the origin of the universe. Now, if you want to replace if you want to replace a physical explanation by an intelligent God, that's an even worse explanation. It's even a more difficult explanation. What scientists are trying to do is to explain how you can get not just something but the immense complexity of the world, of the universe and of life, and science is making a pretty good fist of doing that. Life is now completely solved barring the details. That was Darwin's contribution and Darwin's successors. Physicists are still working on the origin of the cosmos. Among them is Lawrence Krauss whom I shall be talking to next week. Now, it is very mysterious how the universe came into being. It's a deeply mysterious and interesting question.

Lol yet these guys will scream "context" when we quote a verse from their holy book. Holy shit

Probably had the opposite end of the spectrum to you....Parents were both atheists, had zero exposure to religion at home, nor had any religious instruction at State school.

Only became aware of & interested in Philosophy, religion & psychology at 21....I quickly recognized a definitive synchronicity between the 3 'intangibles' & my own world view....Of An interior orientation towards it, if you will.

It's fair to say I've always been enveloped by a deep intuitive sense of the 'wholly other' all my life....Of 'The world soul'...Just never had the words for it as a kid.

Having said that, I'm fully cognizant that my way of perceiving the universe goes against the common grain.....But am totally comfortable with that.

Not here to convince anybody, just to put the case forward for a fully living, breathing, conscious universe, is all....Lets weave some magic back into it.:thumbsu:

Sounds awfully like metaphysical speculation to me.;)

All that science, only to arrive at ultimately the same conclusion. hey!o_O

Seems human nature remains the same rafter all.:thumbsu:

Just let religion die a natural death.

Percentage of people that will announce not believing in creationism (or at least the ones we've been force fed upon) may only be 22% but ask those people in private what they really think and those figures will grow greatly.

If we applied only logic and not tradition, fear or ignorance those figures would wildly exceed 22%...........or at least they should.

You are right and it is definitely not.........but it also shouldn't be built on the foundation of mans' lies.

We may be a long way from knowing what we all want to know but to look to the past to see the future is somewhat...........backward.

There may have been a few darts that hit the bullseye but it just as clear that most didn't......now.....just to find the ones that did, is the trick. :)
