It's probably in here somewhere but Swans have outscored opponents by something like 240 points in the first 20 minutes of matches this year.

That's how they got us in Round 16.

Must start well.

If anyone could find a points differential for our last quarters, that'd go some way to easing my intimidation

101.71 (677)to 44.54 (318)= 212.89%

I'm puzzled by the growing number of 'experts' tipping against the Cats. We have a full list of fit & in-form players to choose from. Key players are hitting their straps at the pointy end of the season. We are fresh, rested & hungry. We are MCG specialists. And we have won the last 8 games in a row. Our momentum & preparation cannot be faulted.
Here comes the Geelong train! My gut tells me the next 2 games will be our best for the season. There is a touch of 2009 in all of this.
Glass half full? The bloody thing is over flowing.

All mindset until we show we have the ability to take a game like this by the scruff only then will notice be taken

Agree with both of these. There has been much talk about clicking and I wonder if that is about to happen. I thought against Hawks however pessimistic I can be(and boy I can be) in the moment I just always felt that we were in game and somehow would find a way. When we have lost i think reverse even when we cane back.

Allot of talk out of Sydney this week and very little apart from many straight bats in return. That makes me feel better. Mind you I have had two dreams with swans beating us. Had same before '11 gf with coll winning.

Go cats and I really hope we hit them as hard as they will try and hit us from the opening bounce. Scooter hopefully goes to that player who does allot on the outside and just stops that; all I can remember from that rnd16 game was the ball just coming out to players running past and bang goal. Also the umps were disgraceful that night as well. I wonder who they have been instructed to support. So far this year its not been geel. Can the cats get another 10k of supporters along? There is still 12k of general public tics. Like can the club do something? Like 5k of tics and offer them at half price. We need everybody there.

Andare gatti!!

They did

But we were also in front about 10 mins into the 2nd quarter weren't we?
The latter part of the 2nd quarter for me was what killed us that game, we went from looking in control to looking in trouble... and never got back near looking in control again that night, to the point we started to not even look competitive

It appears some are dismissing the value of the Naismith/Nankervis axis for Sydney. I've watched a fair bit of Sydney this season and they've been better in the stoppages, as well as getting more big man impact around the ground, since these two came in. Tippet had great early season form but doesn't have that any more, while Sinclair was fairly useless this year. They remind me of the understated roles, unappreciated in outside circles, of Cowan, SS, Menegola etc for us. The midfield group has operated better than ever with these no namer big men involved.

Also, Smith and Stanley didn't get on top as expected against the Hawks. They were also beaten in the Essendon game, maybe the Richmond game too. If anything their form this season has been best when pitted against the more highly rated ruckmen - Goldstein, Mumford (second time), Nic Nat (outside of a 10 minute burst). People are rightly putting the heat on our midfielders versus theirs after the round 16 mauling. That should definitely be extended to the ruckmen. We lost a series of big finals due to our deficiencies there. It's time for these boys to make the difference.

I think the reason Franklin has not been discussed is realistically he won't be curbed if Sydney are controlling the midfield.

The only way to keep him under control is to deny him delivery and force him to hunt the ball at half back.

Force them to kick it long to him......last took an overhead grab in 2008 !

He has actually been much much better at that since going to Sydney.
Still not his strength, but no where near the level of weakness it was

Round 16 was some time ago and Scott and his assistants have been at work.

The defence has tightened up, including the "team defence" role that Jimmy Bartel has played across the half-forward line of late, which has helped to limit opposition teams waltzing the ball out of Geelong's forward 50.

As part of the supporting cast in the midfield, Josh Caddy and Mitch Duncan have lifted their workrate, and Mark Blicavs is playing an important role around the stoppages.

Patrick Dangerfield and Joel Selwood are blue-ribbon midfielders, but it is Blicavs who will have Longmire looking for a match-up.

I'm not convinced he's as threatening under finals pressure. Plus we've got top quality key defenders to take away his one asset - marking power.

Could be wrong.

Not just that, irrespective of what anyone's opinion of his playing ability is, it suits our match ups by them playing the extra tall, so I've got no problem him coming in for that reason alone.

Hope so, but I gotta feeling it's the Rug in the gun.
I think Ruggles ordinarily would go, but it makes our defence way too tall. I agree it's likely Kolo unless MC/CS decide to "lose" a mid like Cowan to keep our defensive structure balanced. You might then see Out: Cowan, Ruggles In: Henderson, Bews. But in saying that, Bews wasn't overly impressive in the VFL losing final and hasn't played any footy. The other interesting factor is if Hawkins' groin is till sore from that training session and is at all restricted, they might play Hendo forward...but again...which forward do you omit? This is a GREAT problem to have!!

This may change tomorrow, but I'm feeling completely calm about this one.

Simply, there are a number of factors working in our favour.

If we don't win, we simply aren't good enough.
I've felt that way all week.

If we don't win I'm making a Beeline to the Chris Scott thread. :p

In my opinion, the cats best is at least equal to the swans best, if not better. The problem is that the cats worst is as bad as just about anyone...as we have seen at various times this year. Praying for their best on Friday
Apart from our Game against GWS first up and Sydney, Geelong have brought their A-game to every match against top-8 sides. To expect this week to be any different is pessimistic for the sake of it. Let the dawks and bl$$ds keep brining up that to make it easy to sleep, but remember, there's a reason they always bring that up, and the fact that we over-rely on dangerfield, because they know if we show up, they're no chance.

First one there be kind enough to wipe the 2 months worth of dust and cobwebs off it first for the others that will head there.
