If Omeara is worth a first rounder or equivalent then Ahern probably is worth a second, especially if we are confident of being able to get him back to full fitness. But a good deal for us would be to somehow pay less. Maybe they could throw us this year's third rounder. Or maybe we throw in our fourth rounder and they give us Picket/WHE.

Ahern isn't even here yet and we are shitting on him for not being Boomer. Brilliant.
I am always amused the way posters get all worked up over rumours or speculation, and immediately start rubbishing the recruiting staff, the coach or the club. Why not wait for facts before making such judgements?

Did the first one in February did he not, then does a knee (not sure if the same one) in September.

That's some sort of turn around, possible Lars initially?

I'd be hoping he relaxes takes the necessary time and gets it right for 2018. Kid could be just what we need

I think people will be pleasantly surprised with Ahern.

Former pick 7, good young, classy, outside midfielder who can kick goals.
Yes, he's done his knee twice. Clay Smith did his 3 times. People wanted O'meara who's injuries were much worse.

You make a point Smith 3 reckos and was arguably the dogs best finals player along with 1-2 others.

Had full knee reco in Feb, no lars. Surely September was way too early to start pushing it again. If we get him, like you suggested take a full season off to get it absolutely 100% and then get him ready for '18 could be a long term steal.

... at GWS, a club with nothing but first round draft picks. It's not unusual.

Tough for a first year to get a game in a GWS midfield that has Shiel, Ward, Treloar, Greene etc

I am not asking for you to try and change my opinion, I am just stating it.

I just hoped whoever we get we don't cop it like we did with Andersen paying pick 15 for a bloke who was mid 2nd round AT BEST

Re Ahern, according to NEAFL reviews he was inconsistent in his first season. He played 15 games in the NEAFL, was rested once and senior emergency once so didn't play.

However, within that inconsistency he was in the best on 7 occasions. Given he was a first year player that aint too bad at all.

There are two issues with going after a bloke like Ahern. Firstly is cost. If it doesn't cost us a great deal then fine, not a bad get. But hte big issue is the injury to the knee. Watch his highlights and you will see a big weapon for him is his ability to change direction on a match head without missing a beat, especially in close. given a double reco, just how much will this ability be affected?

If our medico's recon that come 2018 he will be good to go and that his knee isn't any more ****ed than anoyone with a double reco, then go for it. But if there is doubt the price we pay must be adjusted accordingly.

Kids got a ****load of ability and a family tie to the club. Defo worth the enquiry at the very least.
