Maybe he found out that you're a racist drunk

It was filmed in England, FYI, like 4 of the previous Star Wars movies were. So much for shipping in the lead. :p And as I said, it needed to tie into the original Star Wars. Like it or not, there are more men in military service then women by a huge margin. Two of the main characters were Asian.

What other female parts did you want them to include? Another girl as part of the main cast? It would have diminished the impact of Jyn and just been tokenism. Saw was an extremist and so had to be male (how many female jihadists do you think there are), Jyn's father is self explanatory, Cassian Andor had to be male to counterpoint Jyn, Baise Malbus and Chirrut Imwe a lot of people think actually might be gay the way they acted around each other, Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits) was part of the prequels...so what role in the story as it was presented would you change to female? The Imperials are always white, always human and always male because the Emperor is meant to be a fascist xenophobe who is against progressive values. It's why the leader of the Rebellion is female (Mon Mothma).

She told everyone on board the ship she was on what her dad had said on the hologram. They even make a huge point of that fact when K2-SO says "Destroy the reactor and the whole system goes down". That's how you said it: "The whole system goes down."" Cassian Andor says to her 'They were never going to believe you. But I believe you.' That sounds like a vote to me. You think all those soldiers - who disobeyed orders to follow her - did so without acknowledging her as leader?

I'm happy to accept that in a time of war, it's the men who are conscripted to fight first because they are disposed to aggressive behaviors. I'm happy to accept that the odds of a female soldier, which exist (hence the pilot) but would be rarer than a male soldier, volunteering for what was a suicide mission would be virtually non existent. And all of those guys were just cannon fodder anyway, so I don't know how including a couple of girls does anything to further the story itself.

Like it or not, the wider population doesn't actually enjoy seeing women get beaten up, shot at or killed - but is fine if it happens to men, because that's what men do. It's hardwired genetic coding to want to protect those that have the ability to continue the human race. You make the movie you want to see, it would tank faster than Carlton, because it would only appeal to a certain cross section of society.

Could you please put this in a spoiler box?

And so it came to pass that the spoiler baton was passed from me (I still maintain I guessed the plot, seriously not even kidding.) to Janus.

We've got a mate who is forever spoiling NBA results in our group. We tend to watch particular games after work.

We call him the hatchet man.

lol the lethal combination of ICT guys and the public service means there is a bunch of guys who literally do no work and watch the NBA with their live passes on their PC's at work. Christ they are useless. It's funny because they actively spoil results for each other if one can't watch a particular game and then they have some sort of basement dwelling mouth-breathe-off where they fight for who is the smelliest. One of them wears basketball shorts to work in a corporate environment. I kid you not. He gets away with it because he's a slovakian migrant.

"Why is that guy wearing basketball shorts?"
"He's from slovakkkiiaaaaa." (barcelonnaaaa)

That sounds like poor management.

That sounds like poor management.

It is. The ICT guys are currently managed by an accountant, who knows nothing about ICT and never actively manages them or even meets with them to set deadlines or project priorities.

Portia is spot on. The funny thing about Star Wars trying to be all progressive and hip is, even when they do make an attempt (casting females as leads) they just ... have to... gahhhh .... cast every other character as a bloke.

Its like they can't quite commit all the way just yet:

Felicity Jones ... Jyn Erso
Diego Luna ... Cassian Andor
Alan Tudyk ... K-2SO
Donnie Yen ... Chirrut Îmwe
Wen Jiang ... Baze Malbus
Ben Mendelsohn ... Orson Krennic
Forest Whitaker ... Saw Gerrera
Riz Ahmed ... Bodhi Rook
Mads Mikkelsen ... Galen Erso
Jimmy Smits ... Bail Organa
Alistair Petrie ... General Draven
Genevieve O'Reilly ... Mon Mothma
Ben Daniels ... General Merrick
Ian McElhinney ... General Dodonna
Fares Fares ... Senator Vaspar
Jonathan Aris ... Senator Jebel

There are some roles that have to be male for congruity but its a fictional universe, they can do whatever the **** they want. They *choose* to write in male characters and *choose* to make female characters subservient.

Things they could have done, just off the top of my head:

1. Explored Lyra's (Jyns mother) role. Maybe make her outsmart or outwit some troopers? Make her more of a badass instead of making her just another pathetic female who wants to cower and be a martyr to her man.

2. One of Donnie or Wen could have been a woman. If we're so uncomfortable with our precious girly petals getting squished, maybe mix up one of the roles and make them more strategic or intelligence based ... instead of yet another desert dwelling gun toting macho dude.

3. Cassian could have been a double agent assassin type. Would have been a great role for a woman and matches "history".

4. Bodhi could have a been woman - this character was as bland as a stale watercracker anyway, might as well make it different.

5. **** it! Make the cute robot a female.

There were a myriad of things they could have done.

They were probably more progressive in the 1977 original when one of the robots was gay (C3PO)

Every time I hear anything about the Schumacher story, god it hits me. Just the mental image of him wasting away in a bed paralyzed. The worst way to go for someone always living on his feet and pushing the boundaries. I would think all hope is waning.

I would really like to see a homosexual Star Wars character that isn't a robot. You know, someone that is actually capable of a physical relationship.

In terms of representation the Gay and Lesbian community is way behind other minorities. Do they even exist in the SW universe?

I mean would it have been the end of the world (so to speak) if Jyn was embracing another woman on the beach in her final moments, or Cassian another man?

Since there are no sex scenes in Star Wars, how do you know there weren't any?

Yeah mate, it's been out five days. Some of us are busy/obligated at this time of year. I respectfully asked Janus.

Carn m80 it's been 5 days already, chop chop! :drunk:

Seriously though, I try my best to not spoil movies even years after they're released, especially if there's a big twist at the end. I would never tell anyone that Bruce Willis is a ghost or that Kevin Spacey is Keyser Soze unless I knew they had already seen it.

Yeahh and if you have't seen it in that time, you would surely have to expect people are going to talk about it and if you don't want it "spoiled" take some personal responsibility and avoid places where people are likely going to be talking about it!

Sorry for being snippy, people complaining about spoilers is a personal pet peeve of mine.
