I've got 15-odd friends and associates over there and seeing their photos/vids roll in has me feeling like that caged bear in the ads.

I had to pull out due to a business commitment coinciding with the trip and while that didn't change for me, I didn't count on the huge sense of FOMO with all the photos being sent back from the two groups I would have been travelling with. They had a blast.

That doesn't even take into consideration the stuff from the club and posters from here.

Next year is going to be huge.

Is notso holding his shoe phone ready to spew into it because Port's China Trip etc. is a success.:p

Empty seats a clear indication of failure that only the Team for All South Australians can save.

He's emailed Rory for the Ratphone.

Yeah, because there were no empty seats at AO on Saturday night.

How many of the Crows' 600,000 digital members are based in China?

Kochie said today we want to share the game around with other AFL teams each year :) Farewell GCS . Thanks for the game though.

That's language for EAD Cochrane. What a campaigner he his!!!.

I Hope we never ever deal with them again. Trading wise and all.

Meanwhile Poort's phones going into meltdown with other clubs' marketing departments begging to join us in Shanghai next year ;)
I'd take Gold Coast again a soulless plastic franchise is a good contrast to 147 year old Ports. Only other club who has the same qualifications as GC has a agreement to play 11 home games at AO.

I'd offer them the 5 year deal, but tighten up the jumper rule just to be a bully about it :).

His attitude was bizarre. Here he has an opportunity to be a part of one of the great showcase games on the AFL calendar - even neutral observers like McAvaney and Leigh Matthews commented how this game had the build up of a grand final - and he kicks it to the curb over wearing a clash guernsey.

It's not like we demanded Gold Coast play in purple paisley just a simple request that they wear their very own approved clash guernsey. All this invocation of traditional teams like Collingwood and our guernsey is as important to us blah blah blah. Even Collingwood wear a clash guernsey.

Do you you think his face hurts where his nose used to be?

PS they are campaigners to trade with too.

Kochie said the Chinese police were very impressed with the behaviour of the supporters. He thinks they were worried it might be a soccer type environment, hence all the security. Having said this, we had better choose a club with a minimal number of feral fans to play us there next year. Want to keep our impeccable record :)

Just to expand on this, Kochie said that one of the reasons for rotating other teams into Shanghai is because other state governments have indicated their interest in getting involved in the action and will be making financial contributions to fund the matches. I know, such a sideshow.

Also regarding the empty seats, Koch said that they weren't empty per se, instead people who should have been sitting in certain areas we're socialising in the tents and watched the game from there. He wanted to reassure those who didn't get tickets that it was a sell out.

Eade must have been hurting just a little seeing AhChee and Glassankles playing so well
Glassankles with 98% game time too, only exceeded by Tom Jonas with 100%.

Despite the Gold Coast Suns being more accustomed to playing in such humidity the highest TOG for them was 97% (Jack Leslie)

Also football reason, we build up a familiarity advantage with the travel and ground environs.

It will be different next year. Clubs will learn to research better and will have a longer time to prepare, which is fine. Their coaches will promote rather than complain about the adventure. Will make for a better game too. The one sided affair was rather boring.

AFL boss Gillon McLachlan rates China game a success, says he is not worried about crowds

"An allegedly sold-out crowd of 10,118 — fans from Australia, expats and a small but enthusiastic local contingent — watched Port Adelaide maul Gold Coast by 72 points."

"McLachlan said the empty sections in the grandstand were due to fans in those sections having access to nearby corporate marquees. He noted all the public seating areas were full and, if anything, the AFL would look to increase the ground capacity given tickets sold out in two hours."

So Gilligan agrees with Kochie.

On the subject of the crowd size, James Brayshaw was one of those rubbishing Ports' game in Shanghai last week. I posted that we would probably exceed the crowd that his club attracted to it's home game in Hobart.

Official crowds;
R7 - Norf v Crows 10,064
R8 - Ports v GCS 10,118

I guess it is not as if Tassie is a traditional Aussie Rules state.

Eade admitted in his pre-match press conference that Gold Coast had six months to prepare for a trip to Shanghai. Next year's opponent probably won't have much more time. If the Gold Coast couldn't prepare a team that travels interstate on average almost every second week during the season for a trip to a first world country on a similar time zone in six months then there is something wrong.

Others will learn from Gold Coast's mistakes and the next club will be announced much earlier now that we know it's a definite go-er.

You're probably correct. Now that clubs have seen that it works and if what Kochie has said about numerous clubs, and state governments, keen to get involved is true then it may well be announced earlier but it still has to fit in with the AFL's scheduling of the 2018 season. So some more time but probably not a lot more.
