There must be a bigger issue with Stringer than what the Bulldogs are letting on. It is very rare for a coach to talk so aggressively about his plans to move a player on. There's not even a small hint from Beveridge that he'd be willing to keep him at the club.
Lets just say it would be a big 'gamble' to trade for him.

Serious question - is Jack Trengrove worth a rookie spot or is foot completely stuffed?

Absolutely cooked.

Won't play AFL again, would be the slowest on our list by a considerable margin and his kicking has lost penetration.

I wouldn't want us to get in a bidding war or pay overs for Rockliff.
I go regularly to games at the Gabba with a bunch of longstanding Lions members. I caught up with them last week and asked them what they think of his value to a another club.
They were firm in their view is that for all the trade hype he brings he'd ultimately leave supporters frustrated if he continues racking up possessions with dinky sideways or short kicks that don't deliver the momentum that a player of his skill set possesses.
He'll be 28 next year, preference we go to the draft. We've plenty of his type as is.

We're clearly desperate for a KPF & KPD. We've lost patience waiting to develop one of our own but it's well documented that KPF take years to develop. I'm concerned we'll end up paying overs for someone as a result.
(without Father-Son selections in Cloke and Moore we'd be further behind on this front)

Who out there playing in secondary leagues might warrant consideration for a mature aged rookie pick?
The type that might not had been ready for the draft, slipped through for any number of reasons. We've all seen them and asked, "why isn't that bloke on an AFL list"

One such player I'd like the club to put a call into is Bryce Retzlaff, Captain of QAFL side Labrador on the Gold Coast, and ask him to come down to the club over the the summer.
He was drafted by the Lions in 2009 then due to injury and as I understand off-field family distractions just couldn't maintain his spot. Still only 26.
He's a classic full forward at 6'5 & 90kg. He has all the skills, sound leading patterns and great leap and hands. With 60 goals to his name this season can obviously kick pretty straight and a big reason why they're on top of the QAFL ladder.

I understand the step up from secondary leagues to AFL is substantial but why can't we simply have a look at a few mature age (around 25 y/o) prospects over the summer?
If one shows enough, particularly with the prospect of us clearing / trading out at least 5 players surely it's worth a stab and keep a pick for a mature aged rookie?
We have a history of burning late picks on players that never come through as it is, I don't see this as too wild an idea.
The risk being as I see it is not if they can play, but could they handle being dropped in the bubble and not developed in the traditional sense.
Look, many things need to line up on this front but it's not without precedence, JPod did it 10 years after being 1st drafted.

On Jock and Journo, Scott Pendlebury said that Fasolo loves Melbourne and is unlikely to head west. Plus in the Age Fasolo said he loved the coaches and his team mates. So why would he leave. I hope he stays.
You're not supposed to say players like the coaches.....

Can't see why we wouldn't look at stringer, particularly if fasolo is headed out. Oodles of talent that we could probably get on the cheap. Not pick 6 worthy at this stage, but definitely worth kicking the tyres.

I'd rather Honeychurch over Stringer. Can't get a fair run at it and would be cheap as chips. Low risk/high reward imo.

Pass on Honeychurch. He's another list clogger. Considering it doesn't appear we'll lose much from our best 22 I don't see who he displaces and we aren't in a position to deal on depth.

Thoughts on Rupe Wills?
I like what I've seen and has qualities that many of our mids lack (can stick a tackle), but seems like he's a fair way down the pecking order (and is out of contract).
He's not going to bring a lot in a trade, but think there are a few teams (Ess, WC, GC) who he'd be a fair chance of being best 22 with...
Anyway, happy to keep the young fella, just haven't seen him mentioned much here and wondered what others thought.

I don't think he's far down the pecking order tbh, but he was injured for so much of the year it was ridiculous. Fingers crossed the new high performance guy can un-davoren him.

Was just offered a new contract.

Points for the term "un-davoren"

His should be a new term used widely on our boards.

yeah and he stayed in melbourne during the year when he had the time off.

Media grabbing hold of bigfooty innuendo again ??
I dunno about you guys but it makes me feel pretty damn powerful that my incoherent ramblings are influencing the mainstream media!

Jackson Ramsay for Harley Balic
Josh Smith for a late pick

2 year contracts: Phillips
1 year contracts: Sinclair, Thomas, Wills, Crocker
Rookie/re-rookie: Lynch, McCarthy, Sier
Retire/delist: White, Blair, Keeffe, Mackie, Schade

Certainly not the Buckley coach on these pages, according to many he's the devil incarnate and responsible for everything from not winning their favourite lotto numbers to the second ice age.
Lucky I am hiding in my office, this caused me to laugh out loud! I hear Buckley was in the Submarine that abducted Harold Holt plus he bears a striking resemblance to the Night King and is good mates with Petyr Baelish (Littlefinger)!

Why swap Smith for a late pick?

I'd give him another year for sure.

The whole thing with Fasolo started with "Fasolo might want to go home to be closer to his family because of depression".

few months later...

Fasolo may go home

Few months later ...
Fasolo probably wants to go home.

Few weeks later... Media checks Bigfooty
Whispers: Fasolo wants to go home.

If we get involved in serious trades this period I would love the club to put a cap on the age bracket we bring in. I hope we are looking at 23-24yr olds or less. We need to bring in players who can remain on our list for a longer period of time while our younger players continually develop. We don't want players who will only play with us for 2-3 seasons.
