What are the odds that we end up getting something better than Watts with that pick? I'd be mad if we did a deal like that.If he wanted our or we were pushing probably. Otherwise probably 20-30.

So 3 bad weeks when he is underdone outweigh 18 quality months?Watts consistently put up performances that wouldn't warrant a place in a finals 22 after his return from injury this year. There is a bad smell about his lack of intensity and physical commitment. I have him an out for that in his younger years, but he doesn't have an excuse now.
I'm not saying I want to trade him, but he's skating on thin ice from here and shouldn't be shocked if the club entertain offers for him.

Clearly the watts thing wouldn't be about trading out a player to get great value. It would be about his attitude and the culture. No matter how you try and spin it he is 26 and he's played 1.5 really good years of AFL footy and it has got **** all to do with talent.
The fact he was dropped so publicly in the pre season and then returned so poorly from injury says something about his attitude.
Then for Jonesy to question him on radio? Well when has he ever done that. Watts looks like a bloke who's happy to play OK footy while collecting a pay cheque every week. Live the life and reap the off field benefits. Has he ever come in and done extra sessions? Talked to the media about how he wants to be the best link man in the game?
Not many players his size make it past the age of 30, so he may have only 3 years left it him.. can he really say he would be proud of his career so far?
Poor old Jack Trengove being delisted after everything he's been through for the MFC is the most telling sign of culture killing I've ever seen. Would love to be inside the heads of some of your gun youngsters and hearing what they're REALLY thinking about your "Club".

Thats OK maybe you guys can pick him up and turn him into a gun like Toumpas.[/
This isn't about him. It's about poor old Trengove. I agree, we aren't any better with what we've done to our own JT. This is about Clubs being businesses now. They are no longer for we Members. It's now a corporate, culture killing business. If we aren't winning and gaining the corporate dollar, let's cut our loyal, long serving servants for a few ugly dollars. I hate it.

People are grossly underrating Watts and grossly overrating draft picks.
Watts had a bad start to the year (his fault) and a bad finish to the year (not so much his fault) but still finished fifth in this board's voting. People are also forgetting how good he was last year. It's frustrating that he can still be inconsistent after so many years on the list, but when he's been playing well (which is more often than not over the last couple of years) he's a very important part of the team and a potential match winner. With mercurial forwards, you sometimes need to accept the reality of inconsistent output, no matter how hard they're working (though it would be nicer, of course, if we knew Watts was definitely putting in the hard yards).
With draft picks, history shows us that there's very little difference historically between the success rates of a pick in the high 20s and a pick in the mid-40s. If you wouldn't trade Watts for pick 47, then you shouldn't trade him for pick 22 either, because historically pick 47s have actually been more successful. I'll take Watts' half a season of garbage and half a season of brilliance over a kid who has a >50% chance of being delisted before making it to 50 games.
