I'd be content with Fogarty as he was an early favourite of mine and a few others certainly have claims to be taken (Cerra most likely is still our No.1 choice of who could be available) but Stephenson has been my personal hope for a while.

For me elite foot skills, speed and line breaking ability or key position depth were our most pressing areas of need this draft.

Foot Skills, class and high possession midfield accumulator - Cerra

Speed, dare, outside run and forward nous - Stephenson

Key Position - Naughton

A little from column A, B and C. Best licorice all sort - Fogarty

We have Reid, Dunn, Goldsack and McLarty. Moore is rumoured to go back also although I doubt permanently. We are likely to go KPD at 39. That would be 5 KPD on the list.

Yeah a kpd at pick 38.. for a good couple of yrs in the VFL.

Can someone please explain why all the draft journos are saying Collingwood doesn't need key-defenders?

Ben Reid, Tyson Goldsack and Lynden Dunn all hitting 30+ years old next year. You flogged off Keefe and Schade this year, and Nathan Brown left the previous year, which is why you brought in Dunn as a stop gap in the first place. Scharenberg's missed like 3 years of football so it's unrealistic to pin your hopes on him.

I'd have thought it's a pretty barren wasteland for you in defence.

You’re very right. But we do have the chance to fix it quickly. We have a young kid name McLarty who looked good in the 2’s last year and hopefully we take another KPD at 38 this year.

Happy with that. We've been known to be pretty conservative when assessing the health of potential recruits/trade-ins etc. If we are happy enough with the reports from the medicos, I don't think there is any issue with taking him. I've been hoping for him all along, but never realistically thought he would get to us. I know everyone has differing opinions, but I think he looks an absolute ripper.

In all seriousness, Hodge has been a very good player in one of the great sides.

Riewoldt was one of the great players, in a very good side.

Say what you want about Riewoldt as a leader, but he's been in the best handful of key forwards of my life time. He is criminally underrated due to his lack of team success (much like Bucks has been, although Bucks was an even better player) and in my view is one of the greats.

Hodge has been a gun, but in my opinion hasn't been close to Roo as a footballer.
