I've got a bad feeling we'll have to let Richo go this season. I don't reckon he can survive, I can't see us doing a Richmond with our biggest game breaker being Jack Steven. There's too much bad feeling out there for him now, I think him and his assistants have run their race at our club. Sad but it happens.

So the question probably should become, if not him then who?

My money would be on Ratten as he has actually done the job before.

No to Roos or Mick, no to Hird. Knights? Ayres? Not sure. Caracella? Camporeale? Too green.

Everyone's dream Clarkson seems a long shot. Chris Scott ditto. Brad Scott? Bevo?

Robert Harvey would probably want the gig but I'd not be keen. Justin Plapp? Lenny Hayes?

Whose gun coaching (not magic) would turn our group of players into a skilled finals outfit?

I’m sure many of us would really appreciate you giving your impressions from behind the curtain. I think half the problem is that his (public) style is so disengaging.

i am happy to give my thoughts on anything but for a long time i was given some access that not many people have and saw things behind the curtain that is not my place to pass on.. especially on a public forum such as this.. but what i will say is that a lot of what is shown to media is carefully prepared

i think there is a balancing act between the revolving door of assistants that Ross had and the current state of same voices in the assistant roles ...
im in favour of keeping Richo on as head coach but i think he needs new assistants to raise new objections and bring new ideas to the table

Whilst most of the playing group is fairly young I believe that they've been spoon fed for most of their short careers.

I hope last weekend was the big wake up call that they all needed - you get what you deserve.

The head coach really should be the ideas man and the person who decides how a team plays, how they are prepared etc etc. The assistants should be the ones with skills who implement his overall structure. If a head coach needs a bunch of assistant to provide ideas and inspiration etc., then he is not the right person for the job.

agree a lot to that ... we are a diferant situation to other clubs given the big change in demographics in our list basically we had young kids and a bunch of older guys who were more relatable to the parents of the new players we are missing that mid age demographic so for a while now the training wheels have been on for most of the team , people complaing our guys not developing as fast as other teams but that lack of mid age rangers i think is the main culprit of that.. its almost like once we try to take the training wheels off the team fall apart

Step 2: Rationalise step one.

Step 3: Find a potential replacement.

the assistants job is there to assist the coach , be that through challanging the thoughts , offering suggestions and then driving home the decisions from the coach ... after a while of working in too tight of a team the message becomes the same and the objections dry up .. thats why you need fresh assistants to give that other perspectiv

I think subconsciously the players probably would feel as though the Rooey and Joey types would keep the side afloat, now that they've gone we have some teething problems. I think the kids have what it takes and this heat/pressure on the club is a good thing - I think it will sort them out quick smart.

If we actually have learnt from last week I wouldn't be surprised if we lay near 100 tackles on Saturday night. But if haven't learnt anything....things will get ugly!

Sounds like a tail-wagging-the-dog situation, similar to what saw the end of Watters. No mate -we need strength of mind in a head coach..the one who innovates, leads, drives things, and the assistants are just that..assistants. Just speaking to a soccer coach who reckons if Richo was a soccer coach, he would have been gone by now.

Not only is there no leadership, but there's not a great deal of personality either. Despite his struggles, I think McCartin is probably the only player on our list right now that has that genuine "Follow me" type of character however, he needs his football to do the talking first.
There were a couple of instances from him on Friday that said "I'm not happy with the state of the game, I'm going to try do something about it" unfortunately though he probably hasn't established himself enough to start directing traffic and being comfortable doing so.

I played for a club where we were all long time mates and we sucked. I moved to a club where I had rivals I hated and a wanky jock culture with heaps of little clicks. We were a machine. We were spiteful and super competitive at training. And the same thing on game day.
We respected winning, not meeting up for bro dates and a tickle fight.

Have no doubt Billings, Membrey & Acres would be different beasts at Hawks, Cats, even the ******** Bombers. They have an edge to them.

Definitely, and I think the Crows will be well aware of how we'll want to start.

If we have any pride the first quarter should be a cracker...after that who knows. Crows are of course the far better side but I have concerns over their mental toughness...not because of the camp, but because of what Richmond did to them on GF day last year.

Integrity of selection and consistency of effort is all I want this week. Anything else is a bonus.

i agree with this when he got reported i though to myself you know what thats prob what he needs to do he is a big guy and pehaps throwing he weight around might influence the game a bit more

Pretty sure we're the quietest cheer squad and supporters at the game too.
I think we just all sit there expecting things to go belly-up. I'm sure there's some kind of syndrome to describe it.
