Good view, I think this is what we really need to get any confidence back in the coach. It really depends on what happens for the rest of the year.
Last year Hawthorn were in a similar position, playing terrible football (we were looking at a top 3 pick). They realized they weren't going to make finals but used it as a development year, played some kids, started to look better and got back to basics.
If we are able to do something similar, just start to build some confidence back into players, give Coff and Clarke extended runs and get back to playing a better brand of football then maybe that gives us a platform for next year. Or we could just be putrid for the whole year which i think would lead to a full blown external review of the club (which may be necessary regardless).
But regardless I think it is very unlikely we let Richo go this year. More likely is that we change up our assistants etc. at the end of the year. If thats still not working then sack him next year.
Things can turn around quickly (North, Hawthorn, even West Coast to a lesser extent in terms of expectations) and we are also not the only team in this position (Essendon). Football is fickle, sometimes its the intangibles that make the biggest difference.
At the very least the idea of a Rankine, Walsh of Lokosius is enticing.
Not going to play finals, but to at least build something is essential.
But as you say we will keep then sack if things don't work next year, do you mean mid year?
Are we prepared to just right off next year as would be the case with a mid season sacking?

snap!
