They had this bloke under their nose for half a decade, a rookie pick would have been brilliant. Taking two picks in the draft for players that barely made it on the park while Kelly got shipped off to Geelong and starred - now having to cough up some serious currency to bring him home - very sloppy. It'd be like us letting Tom Stewart head to Fremantle because we were so cocksure that no one would touch him, then having to trade far in excess of what we could have taken him at initially because we tried to be a bit too cute.

The same Tom Stewart you took at pick 40 at age 23? I mean you missed Worpel and Tom McCartin last year. ZOMG sloppy.

Kelly was so good in his previous 5 years that not only did both WA clubs overlook him, the 16 clubs outside WA did too.

Knowing Geelong and Carlton had some interest we brokered a deal with Gold Coast to have multiple picks in the 20s. We took Allen at 21 and Kelly went at 24, such is life. Kelly going at pick 24 and not 26 or 32 isn't Tambling over Franklin.

Now Kelly (as has been rumoured all year) has requested a trade to WA and we are 'sloppy'. Cool. Kelly had a good season so in the minds of Geelong fans we messed up and now rate Kelly higher than Allen, Brander and Ryan. We don't. You might but that's not relevant. We'd like to have Kelly at the club and will look to broker a trade. But we won't be paying 'overs' on the basis of saving face from last year. That is not a factor at all.

I personally be OK with this, plus a upgrade with picks, swap our 3rd round with your 1st 2 round pick.. .

His current value in points is pick 12 AND he is contracted.

WTF do Geelong want with Brander or Allen anyway? Raw 19 year olds with no body of work at AFL level. Don't fit the list profile or recruiting strategy at all.

Now Fraser McInnes... 25 years old and a mediocre ruck/forward. That just screams Geelong. Throw in a sweetener with Kelly and it's the first deal done.

I wouldn't trade Brander for Kelly let alone throw in a first rounder. Laughable how overrated he is by Geelong. They want more than what they paid for danger.

Employment by the AFL sounds like precisely the sort of legal construct (fiction?) a lawyer might design if he or she had grave concerns about the legality of the system on its merits.
How does say the collingwood football club operate as its own business if the afl does not exist? It cant. Like an accounting division of kmart. Football teams are not companies.

All contracts are also signed off by the AFL. No player can have a contract with a club that the AFL haven't approved.

We wouldnt accept brander. Kelly is basically a best and fairest winner in only his first year. Brander is a nobody who hasnt even played a game. Completely speculative. Dangerfield was a free agent and older then kelly when we traded for him and he cost us pick 9 and 28. When dangerfield was contracted and kellys age he was offered two top 5 draft picks. Kelly is far far better then half the player danger was at that age. One top five pick is fine thanks. Its unders but we are fair traders.

So you are saying you are good blokes and reasonable traders?

That doesn't really mesh with having a tantie about Kelly leaving...
mate you can keep calling a tantie
please provide the proof
i have merely provided an opinion

and you have sooked it up
geeze you wa blokes are soft

no wonder darling dropped a mark in the goal square, worried about the shadows

Geelong FC should let the fans take over list management for a day just for gags. Like Foxtel do with players hosting TV shows.

Brander played in Rd 10. Didn't do much but he has played a game at AFL level. It's been covered 1,000 times that the expectations of a 19 year old key forward aren't the same as of a 24 year old midfielder, but no doubt you ignored that. Is Kelly worth more than Cam Rayner? Both midfielders and Kelly had the better 2018 season. We chose to selected Brander at pick 13 last year, not Kelly. We chose to select Allen at 21, not Kelly. We don't suddenly regret these decisions and value Kelly (who we intended to pick in the 20s or 30s) as worth much more than these two players.

Kelly wants to return to WA. One of the WA clubs actually has a top 5 pick and may have picks 5 and 6. Yet that club has no interest in trading one of those picks for Kelly. That would suggest that a top 5 pick isn't actually his value...

What isn't unders? Pick 1 from Carlton? Josh Kelly from GWS?

Did it really take 182 pages for 'restraint of trade' to come up?

There is nothing stopping Kelly from just walking out on Geelong and playing football in Perth next year - just not with WC or Freo.

If someone starts up 'World Series Football' and offers him $1m a year he can accept that deal. Just not in the AFL.
Err, I'm sure that's wrong. Cam McCarthy had to get permission from the AFL just to train with a WAFL club in the year he sat out. He wasn't allowed to play at any level.

You're starting to sulk a little.

I didnt ignore it. Still doesnt change the fact half the kids taken in the top 15 each year usually dont make it. Thats a 50 percent ratio. Kelly has already made it.
