Game Day The "unofficial" North City v North Country intra-club match thread

Taz will be right for round 1, AC joint is a relatively minor surgery.

Turner & Atley better start making some moves. By the sounds of things Thomas, Zurhaar, Wilkinson and Scott are going to be breathing down their neck.

Did Tom Murphy or Tom McKenzie play? Anything to report? No Pittard?

Mcdonald & EVW the two stand out half backs?

I’m blown away by the reports of Red Og sounds like he has taken to the game like a duck to water. I know he has been impressing with his running ability. Never thought he’d get twenty odd touches in his first intraclub game. That’s more touches than Conor Meredith got in his whole AFL career.

I read somewhere McKenzie was struck down with something.

It was hard to tell, but Murphy has a noticeable body shape, didn’t see him.

Was at the game today. Pretty much echoing what others have said, but here goes anyway:
Cunners - does what Cunners does. BOG
Luke Mac- probably second best on IMO. Broke tackles at will & used it pretty well. Had lots of it running off half back.
Dumont - covers the ground so well now & his disposal by foot is quality. In for a big year.
Hrovat - was excellent playing on ball today. Smart little chip kicks to retain possession.
Simpkin - Had plenty of it, played on ball all game. As mentioned, he turned it over a bit. Looks strong & ready for a big year.
Polec - All class. Provides the run & carry we desperately need. He is a very penetrating kick.
Watson - Looks the goods. Seems a natural forward. Lead & marked very well. Will be interesting if he keeps up this form in JLT.
LDU - Solid. Shows in glimpses what he will become. Will be pushing for R1 with strong JLT.
Campbell - dominated Xerri in the ruck dual. Took some good grabs. Handy back up.
EVW - Solid down back as always. Hope he can have an injury free season.
Scott - looks a smart, neat player. Runs hard. A lot to like.
TT - A few really classy plays were you could just see his ability. Will play senior footy this year.
Red Og - Did not look out of place at all. Seem to know where to run to get a kick. Plesent surprise indeed!!
Turner - Played well I thought. He is maniac with his tackling/pressure & kicked a goal or two.
Hall & Tyson were ok without being outstanding. You can see Hall’s class & Dom’s toughness.
I thought Mcguiness looked pretty good also, if that was him? Lanky blonde left footer?
Shame that Larkey & Jed were injured early on. Both looked lively until then.
Sucks about Taz too...

Seeing Maj there was almost surreal. Amazing that he was out there kicking the footy & walking unhindered.

I went today. I only saw the second half. I think i missed the best if it.

Only thing i wanted to add... Tom Campbell is a big mofo. He stood out like dog balls and was definitely the most dominant big man out there. If teams are going to play two rucks this year then let this guy: 1. smash the physical blokes that normally shake-up Goldi, 2. crash packs in the forward line, and 3. take the big release mark on the flank for kick-ins. He's an absolute battering ram and should be used accordingly.

All aboard the Soup Saucepan. Am i doing it right?

I think people are being a bit harsh on Atley, he had a pretty good game early and was the other half of the Larkey incident. He was down for a fair while before getting up and playing out the game. I thought he was ok considering.

Thanks to all for the reports on yesterday. It is great to hear about the young lads doing well. Tarryn will play in the first 10 rounds. What about Bailey, Joel & Red Og. Will they play AFL this season ?

I imagine Bailey would. Joel no chance at all probably the same with Red.

I would think Tarryn will get games as a forward before long. Not much muscle on him, but Bailey looks like he has the game that could slot straight into senior footy. Joel a bit unknown due to coming off injury, but would expect a year in the VFL for him. And Red Og is an enigma. Could be anything on yesterday's showing.

I'm really worried about Garner Wood.
Also this possible jed hammy? It could start another bad trot. Ahhhhhh wish I never read any comments and I'd have only heard about Tazz. (Taz will be sweet by rd 1)

I'm really worried about Garner Wood...................

Seems to me that's it's in your nature to be "really worried".

Wait for the JLT games to finish.

If you're from anywhere not accessible by <10min to a 57 tram stop or West Melbourne station then I'm sorry, but you're country in the book of North Melbourne.

Isn't LDU from down Rosebud way? Hardly country.

LDU is from Rye.

Definitely country from the representative perspective. Even in the older system, Vic Metro ended in Frankston I think.

Under the current arrangements it's by TAC Cup teams unless you are from well out of the area, like boarders at Metro schools, the Stingrays catchment goes as far as Mordialloc, then it turns into Sandringham Dragons.

Stingrays = Country.
Dragons = Metro.

Technically Aspendale is country from a football rep perspective.
