Why not one is ok and the other is a small forward.
Because if we get Ben King, we'll need someone to kick it to them.

Billings just seems to be hitting his straps now.

Gresham may well end up being mostly a small forward that spends time in the middle, but what is wrong with that? If you get a quality player like that they are almost as important as anyone these days. He is a gun.

Sorry Billings is a required player. Offer all you want Gold Coast, but that’s a no from me.

Doubt he agrees to go there anyway.

Just my opinion but couldn’t give a stuff about them getting draft picks , because they set the club up incorrectly.

They will continually to leak really good players , Evans let something slip their TPP is a mess , paying hacks
just so they retain players , so this is the worst combination.

No one wants the Saints to go backwards, but seriously compared to years passed, who on the current St Kilda list is actually untouchable?

For me it's Hunter, King, Marshall and Membrey.
Seems to me that the club thinks no one is untouchable, therefore exploring all options
Except for some bizarre reason 2 names stand out as the great survivors that now seem to be etched in stone
At the club. And only one of them plays!

They are Seb Ross ( why he is never ever mentioned in such talks is completely baffling ) and the other is Danny Sexton whom
I am now convinced has pictures of all the board members in uncompromising positions at the Daily Planet!

While I'm critical of Seb I don't think we can afford to let any AFL level or potential AFL level midfielders go unless we are guaranteed (and I mean guaranteed) like for likes in return. Especially given we keep having new reasons not to bring in pure midfielders.

This is also why I don't think we trade Dunston and why I find talk of Billings and/or Gresham all the more baffling (from our end at least, can see why GC or GWS would want them)

How good is it to hear Nick Dal Santo not tolerate McClures bullshit

McClure: "saints need cap space. They need to let steven go so they can afford brad hills salary"
Dal: "WTF... hang on... what happened to the war chest. Didn't you say they have 1.4m for Shiel and 1.7m for cogs. Isn't the salary cap now 13 million. Brad hills only on 800k"
McClure: "errrr Ahhh ummm now a message from our sponsors"

Barrett says Saints are open to a future without Jack Steven(s) and will need to 'get their head around' paying some of his contract because Geelong can't afford it.
Oh PLEASE can we sell our best player to Geelong and pay his wage for a 3rd round pick??
I am ok with doing that but it means we get more for him.

It means we get a highly rated junior on their list or something in the mid 2nd round.

If we don’t get anything good for Steven, Geelong can take on his contract. Or he can take a pay cut.
I'd be ok with handing over a 3rd rounder and steven with his salary paid if we get a good young player. But it has to be a high potential mid.

Media:

Jack Steven - contracted St Kilda star with 4 x B&F - “probably swap for a late 3rd or early 4th”

Josh Bruce - contracted St Kilda tall, athletic goal kicking forward with 99 games to his credit - “probably swap for a late 3rd or early 4th”

Billy Frampton - uncontracted Port Adelaide depth ruck whose played a total of 3 games - “probably swap for a late 3rd or early 4th”

🙄

I actually have no problem with both Bruce and Steven leaving, but to say we may get nothing but a third round pick does not sit well with me at all. Do we over rate our players or we are missing something?

Pick in the 20's for both would suffice, especially with Geelong about to receive a gold mine for Kelly and Dogs should have more than enough, I would even take a second rounder next year.

If that's what they are worth fine, but then Sydney can take 57 for Zak Jones and Ryder can come in for pick 120.

This!!!!!!!!

So frustrating.

Yeah, I agree - if the club was shopping him around look to off load him, then fair enough that irrespective of what happens the player remains on the same coin, but, if it's the player that wants to move on and go to a specific club, then that's on the player. Why should the club have to play a part in supporting a salary when it's the player that effectively wants to break the agreement?

I hope for everyone it gets sorted out and I'm sure it will, hoping that means we're not carrying the salary because that means we could get Hill in and still have mega dollars for a top 3 or 5 player.

Dal's been great for us in the public sphere since coming back. Always on the money with his comments but also tactical in placement. One to watch imo.

Yep. If we have to pay some of his contract and only receive a 3rd rounder then the only club coming to the table is us.

Can not comprehend how the media thinks we’d accept late picks for Bruce. The dogs have offered him a 4 year deal on good coin and he’s still contracted to us.

That sounds like 1st-early 2nd round territory to me.

Especially given for both Carlisle and Hill the narrative is “st Kilda are offering big contracts they should be willing to pay up in draft picks”

Also enjoyed him quickly mentioning how crap it is we will only get late 50s pick for him and trying to find a player we could get instead.

Of course we need to sort through all the media crap, so it's a bit pointless getting too upset at the moment.

Nonetheless, the thought of a combination of some ordinary draft pick together with us paying some of the contract, so that a 4 time B&F can leave our lowly club and run around with a high performing club, is pretty hard to swallow.

I fully support the club doing whatever it can to help ease Jack's mental health issues.

However if some of what is being reported actually eventuates, then all the club will be achieving is the transfer of those mental health issues from Jack to their long suffering supporters :(

I never understood the carry on over the Bont vs Billings debate or any other shoulda coulda woulda situation, for most of the year it was always Boyd,Kelly,Billings nearly every club had it that way and even if we did go for the left field pick of Bont do you think much would be different with our club right now.
Imagine if you guys picked up Bont instead of Billings, and Bont ended up a huge dud while Billings went on to be a star. You'd probably lose half your members in one go. Anyone getting hung up on that situation should just let it go. Plenty of clubs could have taken Cripps a lot earlier, but no one did. Draft position does not guarantee success, and no one in their right mind would have taken Bont ahead of Billings without the gift of hindsight
