Early phantom draft call from Knightmare on ESPN. Has Gould going at 12 to Hawthorn.

11. Port Adelaide: Josh Worrell (VIC)
Height, Weight:
195cm/74kg
Profile: Athletic utility with the scope to play key forward, key defence or on a wing. Worrell is an excellent reader of the ball in flight, displays a high work rate and was Vic Metro's leading goalkicker during the Under-18 Championships.

This would scare the crap out of me

Ben Johnson tested really well and is one I’d be keen on with a late pick. He’s a back half Kane Farrell - super clean and an incredibly good kick.

Macca19 tell us about Mitch Georgiades? A key forward I’ve not seen play who finished 4th in the 20m sprint.

I wouldn't call him a traditional key forward, he's a 3rd tall marking option. Similar to Burton if he was to play forward.

Hasn't played at all this year which is a real shame. Had a good bottom age year and impressed at last years Champs. Hard to read where players who miss entire years end up falling but I can't see him being picked in the first 2 rounds. Should go in the main draft, but some chance he slips through.

Just in case you forgot the AFL hate us.

Gee I wonder why none of the clubs at the bottom of that list have been successful recently.

You really have to laugh at Carlton though.

Also they don’t seem to be including academy selections which were, and honestly still are completely bullshit.

i quite like jeremy sharp

Yeah hes very good. Not sure why he isnt rated higher. If we could get him with our 2nd, that would be an awesome selection

Since like 2000. 3 clokes, 3 shaw's, Moore, daicos, 2 browns, kelly, some bloke called barham

That's the spud who robbed Hamish Hartlett of his rightful Rising Star nomination on HH's debut in Round 4 2008. Still salty.

Don't count your chickens because every time port looks likely to benefit from the afl rules, the rules suddenly need urgent adjusting!

Id love hately, but do we need him?

We always need good players, and he’s perfect for when Rockliff and boak move on, but we do need a classy running ball winner more.

But Houston drew hately rozee duursma is a pretty nice midfield mix.

Come back when we can take the predicted pick 1 (Hawkins) with a 3rd rounder while drafting a guy like Selwood with our first rounder.

The definition of key position player has shifted from the classical definition over the past few years. Dylan Grimes just won a flag and he's 87 kg. He needs to put on weight, but so does any KPP you're going to draft.

Add 10 kg to Worrell and he'd be fine.
Grimes was never recruited as a KPD. He was 193cm/83kg player general defender when drafted, put on 4kgs in his first full year on the list and is now listed as 90kgs in the 2019 AFL Record Season Guide.

Having Rance and Astbury means they play on the gorillas and he plays on the 3rd tall, can do the intercept stuff or he can play on smalls - he got the job on Betts in the 2017 GF. Astbury was drafted in 2009 national draft and Grimes a week or so later in the 2010 pre season draft. They had Troy Chaplin between 2013 and 2016. So Grimes has only had to play regularly as a KPD after 9 years on the list after Rance got injured in Rd 1 and they had no one else was, but they still had Astbury at 195/96kgs to play on the gorillas.

5:50 is a pretty impressive time. Whilst 2,000 metres isn't a regular event in athletics, the best U/18 athletics kids would be running around 5:20-5:25 range and would probably be 15kgs lighter than Rantall's 82kgs.

Blicavs was 78kgs (and 14cms taller than Randall) when he was trying to qualify for the 2012 Olympics 1,500m after Geelong put him on their rookie list in December 2011. They let him have a crack, but when he failed to get a qualifying time by April 2012, he hit the gym and started the 2013 season listed at 95kgs.

The 100 games VFL doesn't show any prior date (eg. prior to 1990 AFL commencement). Does that mean that a kid can qualify for FS if their Dad played 100 games for a reserves side in the AFL era? Surely not.
That looks like the totals since the 1986 draft. I don't know what the rules were in 1986, but in the 1990's and up to the 2002 rule changes it was 50 VFL games.

Talking about father son, about 20 minutes ago Nick dal santo on Trade Radio / SEN said the 2020 draft will be greatly affected by father-sons and the various academy players and as many as 17 players from these categories could be taken in the first 2 rounds or by early 3rd round by clubs who have rights to them.

So can a kid qualify FS for a Vic club these days without their dad ever playing an AFL game?
Yes there is no time restriction anymore . That was corrected in the 2006 father son rule changes for WAFL and SANFL fathers with the scrapping of the 20 year eligibility playing period for the father and 20 year post entry into AFL drafting period for the club to draft the son(s).

If Graham Cornes had 3 boys with his 2nd wife Nicole, instead of 3 girls, Adelaide could claim them all under father-son. His youngest daughter Gia was born in 2009, so if she had been born a boy, he could be drafted in 2027, 60 years after Graham debuted for Glenelg.
