Jaeger O'Meara

If Worpel played for Carlton would be their second best mid as a 20 yo!
Perhaps. He was our best last year so I wouldn't be crowing about other clubs depth.

Jaeger carried our midfield early until Works found his groove. In general clubs continued to target Jaeger.

I'm interested to see how they all got his year with Mitchell back.

Worpel overtook him last year,
at 20 years of age winning B+F you are going to overtake a lot of players bruh

Also the fact with Mitchell out Jaeger had a lot more focus allowing Worpel to really shine

Worpel couldn't play the role Jaeger did last year.
It wasn't the best role for Jaeger bit it was what the team needed him to do
If Tom can get back to what he was doing in 2018 it will be interesting to see who has a better year out of the three this year if they all get to play their preferred roles

Teams don’t put a lot of time into the third best inside midfielder playing in a bottom 10 team, hence why Jaegar’s stats (except kicking efficiency) still look good.

Also people who say bruh on the internet don’t usually say it in real life, so I’d pump the brakes on that one.

Lost his agility and speed due to injury and it has never come back, so just a solidly good inside mid rather than the elite-tier player he could have been. Gold Coast should be put on trial for what they did to his knees.
Still has extremely good speed, maybe lost a touch? Definitely still very quick.

Did you actually watch the Hawks much last season? He was copping attention week in week out.

He’s still quick, but he doesn’t have the same balanced inside/outside game he was developing to full affect in his first few years at the Gold Coast, as he was actually looking like substantiating the ridiculous hype surrounding him.

His inside game has partly come about through Hawthorn’s need to develop another inside mid, partly for preservation purposes and partly because his kicking is well below par to have him play an outside role.

You realise football is a contested game and and players have to play on an opponent when the ball is in dispute?

Good teams back their systems and don’t put much planning into players like O’Meara.

Good teams like the Giants who sent De Boer to him last season?

Wow, massive sample size here.

So of the few teams that actually use a tagger, out of Worpel and JOM they chose JOM.

If it was the third mid sitting on him at a stoppage, let’s say Mitch Duncan v Geelong, no one would bat an eyelid.

Or maybe teams did put a lot of attention in to him, especially around stoppages last season. I watched every game, most multiple times and it happened.

Couldn't care less if you rate him or not that is an opinion, but he was on the end of a lot of attention.

Reading his posts regarding Hawthorn over the last few months, the guy is generally clueless, but argues hard.

Played as a release player at Gold Coast without the first choice tag. Last year he played inside mid role which was largely new to him at AFL level AND had first choice tag after about a third of the way through the season. Agree he wont be what he could be. However he is a lot better then you give him credit.

See this actually an interesting example because Jaegar was getting a lot of the ball but we were dominating to half time, at which point we put Ed Curnow onto O’Meara.

In hindsight we should have just let him going about his business and continued to play offensive at the stoppages, which was the reason we’d got so far ahead initially.

It was a poor call from Bolton not backing in the system we’d brought into the game.

O'Meara's biggest issue is fading out of games after halftime. He routinely gathers around twenty first half possies only to end up with mid/high twenties at the end.
Not sure if it's an aerobic thing or if his crook knee's getting sore after the main break but I'm sure he's acutely aware of it.
That said, 3rd in the b&f is reflective of a very solid 2019 and he should only improve after another pre season + the return of Mitchell

So the choice is either:

a) Jaeger O'Meara's possessions benefit the opposition team more than his own, to such an extent that tagging him is like taking away one of your own players.
OR
b) Carlton can't string together four quarters of football.
