Of course flu is important - we have national immunisation programs (for free and low cost), we have education on hygiene, we have requirements for immunisation for certain workers, hospitals scale up their beds and staff every winter etc.

But the only reason you keep mentioning it is to downplay the COVID-19 threat - do you deny this? So do you support the restrictions or not? Are you of the position that they are not necessary and we should approach this like the flu? Because if so - well, no words, really.

Good point.

We've probably spent over a trillion dollars managing seasonal flu over the years, not to mention the economic fallout from the endemic.

Towards the back end of (but nonetheless still in the midst of) the 1918-19 Spanish Flu...

From the 1919 Grand Final

Obviously iso went to shit before September 1919

Yeah it's interesting that despite them having versions of lockdown, they still were more than happy to pile 100000 people into sporting matches throughout.

Peter Vlandys: "If i knew then what I know now we'd have played through"

No shit sherlock. Do we think the Italians would like their time again? the mugs who let the ruby princess passengers through?

I'm guessing Vlandys wont be on his own here though

V'landys comes across as a carny, willing to trade anything for a shilling. He's in the esteemed company of Vince McMahon and Dana White in thinking his profit motive trumps society.

He is a very good operator any way you look at it.. Once again, he has got a one up on Victoria.

Vlandy's is just looking for an elaborate way of combining Rugby League with racing.

Perhaps he can kill two birds with one stone and play Rugby League matches on the race track, between races (I mean with no SFS or Homebush it could be win-win-win)

In Western Australia we have 3 active cases. Yet every time a new case is announced on the news they state "a new psotiive result has taken Western Australia's tally up to five hundred and whatever number of total cases" then through murmered teeth they go "with mumble three cough currently being active".

Why continue to keep stating the 'total' case number for any other reaosn that to make this seem like a bigger issue than it is, to justify themselves spending 20minutes per half hour session talking about and to justify the State's tyrannical lockdown laws.

There are literally three kents in WA with the thing and we've only had 500 catch it (with something like 9 deaths) in the entire time its been going on. It's a non-bloody issue in Western Australia.

By all means keep restricitons on incoming travel and forced quarrantine if required, but there is no justification to have any further lockdowns in Western Australia at this time and the Media's fearmongering on this issue is complicit in that
Sounds to me the likes of you, Les, tigger19 and Kappa wouldn’t take up the option of a social life if the option was available. As you (collectively), are too content with idea of sitting in front of your computer to piss and moan.

The CDC has just released a new document in which they say their current "best estimate" for a CFR for COVID-19 is 0.4%. This is the *CFR*, meaning the *IFR* would be much lower, even lower than 0.1%.

...........

Sounds like flu levels of mortality to me!!

didnt WHO say 4% ?

didnt Fauci say 1% ?

gets lower every day

Yep, my missus nearly had a coronary a few weeks ago when I went to sit down on a wooden seat overlooking the beach! Must be the 0 active cases from a population of 33,000+ on the Surf Coast that has everyone on edge!

mate, fresh air, vitamin D and C , throw in a bit of zinc and if you are younger than 80 you should be rip roaring ready to go and fight any virus off

i was amazed at the amount of people at the beach a few weeks ago, its gotta be the best thing - not self isolating at home

CDC now stating that the virus doesn’t transmits from surfaces like they originally thought.

Les, I’d been walking 2 hours a day till a couple of weeks ago, but then got a really bad case of the flu! Just started back up again today.
I blame the missus, as she had it before me!

The pollies[sic] have invidious position

they take a lead from Westminster and Ardern

This has exposed Canberra and premiers and bureaucracy of being out of their depth

p'raps this is product on increasing complexity and system of peration has not kept sync with increasing moving parts

DC, Whitehall, both also, and Seoul and Singapore made sacrifices to liberty to keep abreast of a novel pathology

We could have eqiv per capita fatalies to NZ, but at what cost borne by scaring the polis ? to me, that is thoroughly unreasonable and something the media have been all too willing to play their part

CDC now stating that the virus doesn’t sit on surfaces like that originally thought.

yep all the info that turned everyone into panic merchants is all getting scaled back - funny that

one of the reasons why our tennis club was closed because they thought you could catch covid from a tennis ball FFS, articles about catching covid from cardboard or milk bottles, it was just outright hysteria from the media who were just 24/7 lying and trying to scare people
