They can renegotiate his salary for 2022 onwards at a higher rate though?

If he goes via FA, that salary is locked in (in the TPP) until the deal is over. If they up the offer later it would be a strange move, considering if they did that to start with, it would have reduced the potential for a trade.

Dont know if this has been posted yet but says rival clubs got wind of the salary dump and complained it went against the spirit and maybe even the rules,
this pick 23 crap has AFL intervention written all over it
I can only assume a similar level of complaints will be raised if Geelong remove Menagola or ask Steven to retire to accommodate Cameron.

I knew something like this happened, we got fked over, teams do this every year just this year it was going to result in pick 2.

Plus it’s okay for Dunstan to move to Carlton...

Watch the AFL allow another team to do something similar to our detriment without even blinking... and accompanied by silence from Damo and Kornes.

That's how I read it as well. Easily achievable triggers is clearly a deliberate ploy to reduce our compo...we simply can't allow that to stand and need to match to (i) punish St. Kilda and (ii) protect our trading reputation.

This is rubbish. This is self serving twaddle being leaked out of the club to excuse their weakness. Why would the AFL conspire with a club so that it becomes known to us when the committee can decide the result is anomalous and move our compo back to where Daniher's lobbed.

People will believe nearly anything these days if it suits their leanings.

Corret. So it's ok for the Saints to trade Dunstan out to Carlton to remove his salary and get Brad, but it's not ok to trade him to Adelaide to remove his salary.

Not really the same situation unless they traded him to GWS. And even then, it's not really relevant because Geelong are matching, they didn't take the offered compensation.

We give the compo pick back to St Kilda, so we lose that along with Brad.

The net result for Adelaide is

Out:Brouch, 23, 39
In: 17

That is literally fact.
Actually, I think it's more:

AFC: Out Brouch, 39 In 17
AFL: Out 23
StK: Out 17 In Brouch, 23, 39

in that.

Ed. as others have said.

We read the whole scene incorrectly, the Brad does a really stupid thing, now we are where we are.

I'm ready to just take the compo pick, move on from this mess and start bundling picks to move up in this and next years draft.

Pick 1, in some ways a nightmare pick
Just match. If we lose him in the draft, that's just our way of saying were not going to be easy target again.

Who cares what those clickbaiters think?
I refuse to read any of their articles and by clicking on them you are keeping them relevant.

Daniher's market value had not changes over the past 12 mths despite playing very few games, the reason is the market is willing to pay for his match winning potential

In terms of Brad in 12 mths time he will still only be a good B grade midfield that compliments your midfield, he is not elite, he is not a good user of the footy and he accumulates possessions rather than hurting the opposition

I doubt Brad's market price will change in 12 mths time

LOL

This from the fella that reckoned Adam Treloar was a good user

Zero credibility.

And to cap it posts utter bullshit like this

No.....

Matt and Brad are not as close as people assume

Not to mention, the way Matt invests in the club and mentors young players is completely opposite to Brad

not quite..it is worse than that

It wasn't alright to trade Dunstan etc while the crows were a chance to get band 1 compo. But now that that is settled, the saints can move on whoever they like and it would not matter if Crouch was paid a whole heap more money now...we have not got the compo pick and it is all academical to the vic clubs now. It was never about the saints letting players go, it was all about making sure that the offer was not going to trigger band 1

What a joke. The first picks of the second night have become crucial, which could impact on potential trades. What a sh*t organisation that can’t get its act together.
If we have the first pick of round 2, guarantee the draft will be held on one night to remove any additional benefit the crows could get. It's not a good look.

Most of the recruiters seem to think the Draft will be held on the one night, or at least that's what they're sensing from the AFL feefback they're getting.
