Can Cameron mandate a 1-year contract through the draft?

(CBF looking up the rules)
I think this is the most relevant thing for Cameron's situation should be end up in the draft; if he's putting a price on his head it must be for a minimum period of 2-years

(b) Nominated Football Payments

(i) Offer and acceptance

(A) A Player, (other than a first year draft choice Player or such a Player in his second year), may specify in the nomination lodged pursuant to Rule 6.2(c) the Football Payments which he will require if he is selected at a Draft Selection Meeting.
48

(B) By so specifying the Football Payments he will require, the Player shall be taken to have made an offer to the Club which selects him at a Draft Selection Meeting, to accept employment in return for the Football Payments so specified.

(C) The Club which selects a Player who has specified the Football Payments which he will require shall be deemed to have accepted the offer set out in (b) above.

(D) Immediately following the Draft Selection Meeting, the Player and the Club to whom

(c) above applies, shall execute a Contract of Service providing for the Football Payments specified by the Player in accordance with (a) above.

(E) If a Player nominates his Football Payments he must do so for a minimum period of two years.

Thanks. Suspected as much.

Ah missed that one - good pick up!

His age is being made a bigger deal than it is. The man has 4-5 years of elite footy in him. He is durable and worth the two first round picks. Particularly for a club as good a chance as anyone for the flag in the next two years.

One of the picks to be involved in this deal was that GC pick (now pick 13), we robbed them blind for that pick, we can't complain that is being used as we should never have had it in the first place. No other club would have given us that other than the GC, they've had that many high picks over the years, they just don't value them like other clubs. The other pick is the Tim Kelly pick, which we again did very well out of. We turned a speculative mature aged player at pick 24, whom had been overlooked in many drafts into 2+ first rounders in just two years. Outstanding return and unheard of. Eagles overpaid in a big way.

It's not like we only had our own first round pick this year and we'd have to trade a FR1 pick. We give up two first rounders, we still have our own this year and our own next year. So we can have our cake and eat it too.

No way Jez goes to the draft, we just don't do that and people forget the stress, anxiety this will put on Cameron. We would have assured he and his management we will get this done, and we will. We're asking for a pick back, but chances are we relent and offer the two firsts and they will take it in the end.
Agree on the Cameron age thing. A lot of people thought tommy was done a few years ago. And now he’s coming of the two best seasons of his career and moving better than he ever has. I know he got his back fixed but a lot of people thought he wouldn’t last this long. Cameron also moves really well, isn’t your typical power forward more similar to buddy than Tommy or lynch.

Id imagine they will. 10 years of service to one club as a 28 year old and denied movement and ransomed. Id say thats exactly everything they didnt want about RFA and could spell the death of it
The AFL can tinker with the criteria but they won’t throw RFA out the window

C9 with more embarrassing commentary. “The Giants won’t accept the Cats deal given they got 3 first round picks last year for Tim Kelly

fact check. Incorrect and further to that only 1 of those picks will end up being in the top 20.

The fact we live-traded pick 27 last year for Gold Coast's pick 11 this year seems to confuse a lot. Yes, the pick 27 was originally West Coast's as part of the Kelly trade, but it was Wells' savvy trading that turned it into 11, not because WCE stumped it up. Can't expect much from the meedya these days though.

Seems they be a thick lot at Collingwood - apparently it's not GWS's fault that no Geelong player wants to go there...

As said to them - maybe GWS should address the reasons why at least 5 players have walked this off season and they're struggling to sell themselves to others, rather than blaming everyone else for the situation in which they find themselves

Is that how it works in reality with the NFL??? As far as i an aware its very even and most teams are in with a chance each year.
A 4-3 team is in playoff contention in some divisions. Once it’s knock out time anything can happen. But the Super Bowl will usually have at least one of best teams in it.

Some B#tchmond supporters seem to have short memories, They say we must pay up big time to bring Cameron to the club, But they gave nothing for Lynch & they definitely didn't give much in return to take Caddy from us considering he was still contracted for at least 12 + months.

A Sydney fan on the GWS board said that Vic clubs need to stop trying to bully GWS and northern clubs.

Remind me again what Sydney and GCS gave up for Ablett and Franklin?

Leaving aside who’s worth more & the RFA debate the net result of that Kelly trade in history will be 16, 20 (*at best), 27 and a late pick slide.

So much wrong there in so few characters...the stupidity is overwhelming

Just have a look how it's gone the last 3 years even with UFA.
3 biggest names on the table.
Lynch Richmond (3rd? biggest club) after a flag.
Kelly (trade) West Coast ( biggest club) after a flag.
Cameron Geelong (Freak club, and nearly top destination club) after a grand final.
Don't follow the NFL at all but in the NBA 11 teams have never even won a championship, some have never even won a conference and 2 teams have roughly 50% of championships between them.
5 teams between them have won 51 out of 72

Media are absolutely bathing in all this.

“If you’re Gold Coast, you take him at pick 5”

“Desperate Geelong must nail trade deal”

“He’s worth a lot more than 2 first rounders”
Just reply to them
"You seem to be forgetting an option, Cameron sues the AFL for restraint of trade." and they shut up pretty quick

The NBA will forever be a big market league.

Sure you get teams that pop-up here and there that win. But why should a 6'8, fit, rich good-looking, 20-something stay at a team like Minnesota or Indiana or Charlotte when they can up and leave to LA, NYC, Miami etc

Especially when these big markets generate huge money and are willing to spend big for players, whereas small markets struggle with income and aren't willing to waste money on FA and pay luxury tax?

Im a bit over this constant Trump type version of facts about the Kelly trade.. which was a player that had only played two years for us. The same people mouth ing aboiut the Kelly trade are the one who say draftees should stay 3 -4 years?

Anyway .,.. if we offer the exact same deal as the Kelly deal... my feel GWS still do not do it.

Our R1 this year .. P20 now , our R2 P38. ... 2021 FR1 ..probably 16-20 ( P18 average) , ..and we have to find a Fr2 ... that could be a Fogarty trade or. Cockatoo etc..

P20, P38 , 2021 P18 , 2021 P47. ... with nothing coming back that is probably more than the Kelly trade .. and yet .. I do not think they do it.

If they want that then ok but at no stage did we have the chance to take comp.. P11 looks pretty good next to those picks

So the media need to be more than just click bait and report rather than barrack.
