I don't think he was trying to hide his sustain.
Same could be said for Essendon. I reckon their list sucks.

For the now Essendons is right up there with the worst. For the medium to long term it’s not all doom and gloom imho

What?

Jackson, Pickett, Rivers, Bowey, Laurie, Rosman.

Langdon is 24 if you're trying to label him an older head.

Tomlinson is 27 and we gave up nothing to get him.

Brown is 28 and we got picks that we used to bring in some of the above draftees.

Melbourne added youth and targeted experienced players for specific roles.

Langdon is a role player. Tomlinson was dropped at times in the last 15 months from what I’ve seen. Brown is 28 and a history now of injuries.

I’m not saying they have a bad list at all, just feel there is a fair bit of Essendon (circa 2015) about them.

I'm not saying we will make the 8 but it's not a bottom 4 team nor a bottom 4 list.
Weren't you Hawthorn supporters saying this 12 months ago? 2020 was a reality check for the mighty Hawthorn FC.

Your team stinks, I'm sorry to say. Will take a few years to clean out the dead wood.

You can argue that the Western Bulldogs have a superb mid field this year, one that could challenge Richmond and halt the reign of Dusty? Are they as good everywhere else remains to be seen. They are the danger team IMO.

You've shifted goal posts and are still wrong.

They're nothing like any form of Essendon, the majority of our key players are only just entering their primes now.

Yep. They won't finish in the bottom 4, but a few of their better players will be retiring soon and they don't have much in the way of youth or star power.

When will Heeney come good?

Its been 6 years.

Hawks and Swans have picked up a lot of youth in the last 2 years. Its the mid 20s players where both struggle.

But if Mitchell, Wingard, OMeara, Impey and Phillips play fit for nearly the full season we are going to go ok.

And we have a lot of young talent who need some time.

Mostly we need Mitch Lewis to play like he did in 2019 not 2020.

I think you’ve missed my point, the players brought in suggests you think you are better than you are. Essendon did similar with the well publicised acquisitions of Stringer, Smith, Saad, Shiel etc.

It’s not a bad thing at all. Injuries and asada cost us any chance of a tilt at playing/winning finals, hopefully Melbourne can build on the current list and enjoy some success

We paid a second round pick for then 23 year old Ed Langdon, how does bringing in a quality player that fills a need for a mediocre price suggest "think you are better than you are"?

How does bringing an in his prime player in Tomlinson as a FA who has settled into his role in the back line suggest "think you are better than you are"?

We brought in a guy who has kicked 60+ goals in 3 consecutive years until he had an injury ruined season in 2020 and added youth with the same trade, we literally got better and added a good draft pick.

Your argument does not exist.

Interesting that the team who finished 5th last season, while fielding on average the 3rd youngest teams, has been voted the 5th least desirable list.
Yep GC have genuine quality youngsters to go with the quantity of youngsters. I think people can overestimate the potential of rebuilding lists purely based on quantity or low average age. Just because a list is young it isn’t automatically going to rise in 3 years if the majority are all C grade talents.

Pains me to say but I still think Hawthorn have the worst list heading into 2021. Unfortunately they are in a terrible position at the moment and sadly I think they're going to be down the bottom for quite some time. Hopefully they can rebuild their list over the next few years with some good draft picks. I'm rooting for them.

They'll get Merrett later this year as a free agent. I hope essendon make the eight so they get ordinary compensation.

I think you are still missing my point. Imho the Dees should have continued to build with youth/within rather than bringing in ok players in positions easily tillable with draft picks.

Brown I will give you. At his best is a star of the competition. Langdon and Tomlinson are nothing more than role players.

Essendon made the same mistakes with Devon Smith, with Dylan Shiel. We thought these acquisitions would fast track success without any form line suggesting we could get there.

For all the who-ha on the Swans academy, how many of them are genuine stars of the comp?

Maybe its the coach. Even a dartboard picking for Melbourne should have found at least half a dozen brilliant players from all thpse picks.

Meanwhile Hardwick and Beveridge won flags with a team filled with good but not great "talent".

I'm not missing the point at all, you're just ignoring the youth that we brought in with these players.

Jackson, Pickett, Rivers, Bowey, Laurie, Rosman are all picks with the top 35 we've brought in over the last two years, even with the Langdon and Brown trades we only downgraded our picks a few spots as both of them came back with second rounders.

Langdon also finished 4th in the best and fairest, he's far better than just "ok".

We got shafted with the bubbles. Nobody moved around as much as we did and it played a part in our performance. We still may have been average anyway but it would have been nice to set up base and stay there for a few months like Richmond. Again if our team stinks what does that make your team?, it's easily as smelly if not more so but you can keep being in denial if you like. Bit like your captain.

Petty (2017 draft) and Sparrow (2018 draft) are also 2 genuine future prospects who have gone under the radar.
