So the Broncos played SOO and international matches at lang park ?

You cannot be serious?

Lang Park is host to other RL matches NOT involving the Broncos, such as SoO matches and International matches. Those crowd figures did not contribute to the Broncos season average.

If it's that obvious then why did samiam even need to mention it? I think most people would realise that if he's quoting the average crowd for the Broncos then the figure wouldn't include games played by other teams :rolleyes:

It's like saying "Melbourne average x thousand not inlcuding Collingwood and the Australian cricket team" :rolleyes:

Why are you directing this at me?

I understood the issue - the other goose (cos789) did not. That's why he continued to ask silly questions about the crowd figures.

Actually, not quite. The Cricket team don't play footy, whereas (as someone else mentioned above) there are other rugby league matches played at Suncorp beyond the Broncos.

For what it is worth, the other matches drew:

Trinations: Australia v. Great Britain: 44,358
ANZAC Test: Australia v. New Zealand: 44,191
SoO: qld v. NSW 52,468

Overall, that means that in Brisbane the aggregates and averages were:

AFL: 339,371 / 26,151 (includes Demons game at the Gabba, and AFLQ final)

Rugby League: 565,898 / 36,368

I think that shows that we still face an uphill battle in Queensland.

Wouldn't that be self explanatory though?

Why would you include games in the Broncos average crowd, when the Broncos weren't playing?

Exactly , I couldn't believe someone so dumbass as to quantify the Broncos figures that way .
I sure the Lions figures didn't include any AFLQ games , Australian Country Championships or international rules games .

:D

Carlton and Brisbane both come into this game with the same credentials.....

Round 1 of the NAB cup Carlton played Essendon and everyone said "Essendon should win",they didn't,Carlton played a stronger side,and it showed in the end with a hard fought win.....

It was somewhat unexpected,but a win none the less.....

Brisbane played Saint Kilda and were expected to lose....

They won,

Round 2 Carlton travelled to Tassie to meet the Hawks who were touted as "taking the NAB cup seriously and will be hard to topple at Aurora".....

Carlton won,the doubters will say Carlton won because of the umpires and Fev's staging,think what you please,Carlton won a game they were expected to lose.....

Brisbane travelled again to play the Western Bulldogs who are expected to be in the eight this year,and easily account for the Lions who struggled last year and were widely regarded to "not do much in season 2007"....

Brisbane won.....

Round 3 and Carlton once again travelled to meet the Roos on the Gold Coast in a game that the Roos were "heavily favoured to win.....easily"....

The Blues staged a remarkable comeback and played some slick football to win rather convincingly ( a nine goal turnaround in a quater and a half of football is no mean feat),once again Carlton won a game they were expected to lose.(that's three in a row now)...

Brisbane again had to travel to play the highly fancied Cats,and once again beat the odds to win......

This game will be closer than many expect....

IMHO regardless of who wins the pre season premiership on Saturday,you can safetly assume that both sides will be in for a much improved season 2007,rest assured that both these teams are better than Essendon,Hawthorn and the Kangaroos....

Collingwood,Richmond,Melbourne and Port Adelaide would do well to pay both teams the utmost of respect when playing against us this year,they are all beatable....

This, coulped with a couple of upset wins against some more fancied opposition could well see both of this years NAB cup finalists sneak into the eight.....

I think it shows a real need for a return of representative football and for less of a focus on Brisbane Lions home-and-away fixtures.

With a few more AR type events staged at the 'Gabba (ie. AFL State of Origin), or even some NAB Cup finals and maybe some more Vic clubs selling some interstate games, the aggregate and average figures could improve somewhat.

HAHAHAAHAHA this thread is pure gold!!:thumbsu:
AFL supporters are ****ing idiots! WAKE UP GUYS! AFL in Sydney and QLD is NOTHING... It's a little dot in a sea of NRL!

To the guy who started this thread are you going to the Brisbane game tonight? The game that has sold 50,000 tickets! OR Are you going to the Titans game on sunday?? The game that will attract over 40,000 (50,000 isn't out of the question)???? So that's over 90,000 (Min) at two Brisbane NRL games on the weekend. You going mate?

From past experience, I wouldn't get too excited LebaneseForces.
NRL always draws big opening round crowds.
The NRL have the advantage of starting the season a few weeks earlier than the AFL, so they schedule all the blockbusters and local derbies and pump the marketing accordingly. Fans are starved of action and get excited about the upcoming season.

In past years, it fades away massively after the first few rounds and the crowd averages come falling back to earth.

And yes, the Brisbane Lions are at least for the moment a sleeping giant, but they will be re-awakened.

Will be good to watch the Storm vs Tigers though.

When the 40+ thousand Queensland kids playing the game at the moment start growing up and bringing their friends along. Queenslanders will dominate the AFL Draft for the next decade, and produce many more greats for the Brisbane Lions and other sides.

I am a former Queenslander and I can tell you that while the game is or ever will be dominant, it is far from nothing.

The order of sports on the Courier Mail website.
* Rugby League
* AFL
* Rugby Union
* Soccer
* Cricket
* Swimming
* Turf

Says it all ...

If it was nothing, it wouldn't be listed second. Deny it all you like, but the sport exists, and continues to grow.

Even though I'm sure this goose is a spoof - he still makes me laugh.

I have to agree with this. I'm finding there's a lot more of this going on around here recently. It's actually developing into an epidemic.

Help is at hand though. I'm starting up a business which will be concerned solely with keyboard cleaning. It will be similar to the one I ran in the '70s, cleaning telephones, just a lot more intricate.

50,400 at the Brisbane V Cowboys game last night:thumbsu:

The more important figure is how well/badly the storm game rated in Melbourne.

If League didn't originate out of Sydney, it would much bigger than it is now.

I don't think the game is bad, it just comes from a city that doesn't give a stuff about anything but major sports events.

Had AFL and NRL been from the opposite cities, NRL>AFL in terms of crowds, $$$ etc.

Only parts of Western SYdney like the Dogs and the 3 queensland teams seem to turn out no matter what.

Last night's Storm vs Tigers match was great. It had hard hits, good running etc. If the AFL becomes more soft, I can see people turning towards NRL more. People prefer hard games in this country and not softer games.
